“Never a dull moment!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2011

I have been to Mexico city a dozen times and always stayed in other areas (Polanco/Zona Rosa), but after hearing from friends that the Centro Historico was now really cleaned up, I decided to try this hotel. The hotel is located across from the Zocalo, and off a main road, so you need to be prepared to experience the hustle and bustle of the area during the day and the constant ringing of the Cathedral bells. For us, this was part of the experience and we actually enjoyed sitting at our window (we had a corner suite facing the Zocalo) and were greatly entertained by all the activity on the Zocalo. At night the views were wonderful with all of the buildings lit up. We stayed four nights, however our first night was in a standard room, which was totally fine but a bit cramped. The restaurant has a great view but the food is nothing to write home about and the service not much better, however, it may be worth a visit if you can overlook mediocre food and be content with the view. Be prepared to find yourself among many tours staying at the hotel. The free wi-fi was great and fast. One drawback- the front desk staff need to better trained in customer service and some of them spoke very limited english. Overall, a good hotel, if you can afford to stay at one of their suites, a great experience.

I've not stayed at this hotel, but I have eaten in their restaurant twice. First of all the food is just ok, nothing to write home about. But that is not my complaint because obviously our group was there strictly for the lovely view. During one of our visits we were ignored for the most part, and when the food was finally brought out to us it was done in intervals of at least 5 minutes apart. That's not the way to serve a meal. The last time we were there, the service was more coordinated, but as we start to dig in to our dinner, one of the persons that was in our group spits his food out into his napkin and low and behold there are cubes of GLASS in his steak taco! It was absolutely horrible! The server was standing not more than 2 feet from our table. We called him over, but his response and managements response was terrible. Needless to say, we will never return to this restaurant again.

Just spent 3 nights at the Holiday Inn Zocalo. Just a great little hotel right in the heart of downtown Mexico City. Be sure and get the package that includes the breakfast buffet every morning. It is 1st class and not to be missed. The rooms are nice, though not large, and kept very clean as was the bathroom. Service at all times was 1st class and very friendly. Cabs were available to anywhere in the City with the prices posted in the lobby which was very handy. A few minutes notice to the concierge near the door was all that was necessary to book a cab. Also was able to book a cab and driver for the day at a very reasonable price to take our group (my brother, his wife and I) to Cuernavaca Mexico for a nice day trip in a comfortable manner. Much easier and relaxing than renting a car and driving and figuring directions on your own. Mexico City is not for the feint of heart if you are not used to that kind of driving. Probably the nicest part about this hotel is the location. The Zocalo is right at the heart of Mexico City and you are within walking distance of all kinds of nice restraunts, shopping, archaeological sites (pyramids and temples next to the cathedral), the national cathedral, and many other things nearby. Also is very close to the airport. I have traveled to Mexico City many times over my lifetime and this is probably the best area as a base of operations outside of a private home I have stayed at. Can't be beat !!!

The hotel location is unbeatable, the rooms are small, in the web site they offer Garden botanika amenities but they acctually give Soften toiletries a spanish low cost ones.

Coffe maker in room as promised, soft bathrobe, safebox, the hotel web also offer FREE BUFFET BREAKFAST this is from the web site:
http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/mexico-city/mexdt/hoteldetail/hotel-room-rates

"You'll find that in Mexico City, our hotel's rooms offer comfort along with stylish furnishings. From the perks like free Internet access and a cable television that has channels in many languages to a large work desk and chair, you'll have everything you need for a comfortable stay..
Premium Services "
Buffet Breakfast, complimentary daily

well thats not true, we had to pay about 10 usd each in order to get "the free breaksfast buffet"

overrall is the best location in mexico city historic center.
this is not a 5 star hotel but a proper 3 star.

I stayed at This hotel as part of a 1 night stay business trip.
I got a very small room facing the street and it was very noisy.
The view from the roof top restaurant is really nice and the food was ok.
I had lunch but it was not as tasty as I expected it to be and maybe because it was a little late for lunch they had not as a wide variety as they normally have.
The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was ok. Not as big as some others but ok. The shower head was very good.
They told me this was a old hotel that they had recently made a Holiday Inn so it could explain the size of the rooms.
It was very well located just across Zocalo, Catedral and Palacio Nacional. You could see all the Zocalo and even a little bit of the ruins.
If you want to walk at Centro Historico is an excellent Hotel to book but if you want silence you might try some other location.

Room Tip: Ask the for a better room at the front desk, if available they will help you!

Just stayed here for 3 nights while on an escorted tour of Mexico. The hotel was surprisingly good, very wellsituated, right next to the main square, within easy reach of all local shops and restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable, with coffee maker,TV, hairdryer and safe. The beds were extremely comfortable and fantastic shower with plenty of towels, and bottled water supplied. Breakfast was buffet style on the 6th floor of the hotel, with wonderful views over the Cathedral and mainsquare,,and on the balcony a feeded for hummingbirds which we saw often coming to feed - wonderful. Breakfasts consisted of cereals, toast, yogurts, juices, pastries, bread, eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns and also some mexican specialities like nachos in guacamole, quinoa in corn leaves, chicken with peppers. If you visit the local restaurants, you must try the mexican speciality of Chiles en Nogada - a large mild chilli pepper, stuffed with spiced meat and vegetables and covered in a nutty sauce - it's delicious.

We had a great view right on the Plaza across from the Cathedral. A very comfortable hotel, clean and convenient to everything. The desk staff was very helpful, except for their lack of advice about how to take the local buses (they seem impossible to decifer anyways). I'd recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Cathedral.
