Ok, perhaps having a whole restaurant all to yourself might not be everyone's ideal situation, but we came on a Tuesday evening in February and that's just what happened. We sat in the central courtyard right next to the fountain. Soft music was playing. I ordered lasagne and hubby ordered the pasta carbonara. HIs dish was cooked to order right next to our table and it was the most delicious dish ever. The wine was perfect. The atmosphere was perfect. I we hadn't already been married for 42 years, I would have half expected him to go down on one knee.

To start with, we ordered margaritas on the rocks and instead received frozen ones which were diluted and so sour we couldn't drink them. The staff were generally rude, although our waiter tried to please. The food was horrible. We wished we had just gone back to the Mercado Noviembre 20 to eat. The tuna appetizer was too salty, and the ceviche was honest to god cooked fish. It was served warm, without a hint of lime. We travel all over the world and count this as one of our worst restaurant meals. This is a total tourist trap.

During a weeklong visit to Oaxaca, I dined at this restaurant on three separate occasions and found it to be consistently excellent. Specifically, the servers were professional and efficient, the food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the menu was quite varied. I along with my traveling companion‘s enjoyed each meal and found it to be of high quality. An added bonus is that this restaurant is located adjacent to many attractions and hotels in Oaxaca and is only steps away from the Templo de Santo Domingo. In addition, the restaurant offers free Wi-Fi.

After 10 days of eating fabulous Oaxacan and Zapatec cuisine in nearby towns, we went looking for a steak in the city. The rib eye here was fabulous--flavorful, tender and cooked exactly as we described to our waiter, Gil. He took good care of us--just the right amount of attentiveness. We asked to share the salad topped with smoked fish, and they brought us two small plates, beautifully presented. From the no-sugar limonada we asked for to the rich after-dinner coffee, we had one of those dining experiences where everything was just right.

We arrived late after a concert at Convivio that lasted much longer than we expected. Unusually for us, we had not picked the restaurant in advance, but just wandered in.

The service was impeccable with an old fashioned attention to detail that was pleasing.

I enjoyed the tacos con chapulines and Jane enjoyed the Aztec soup. We were amazed to watch them preparing Caesar Salads and Crepes tableside in a manner that seems to have been lost to other restaurants. It took us back to our earlier days of dining out.

We expect to return here for another meal before we leave. What more need I say?
