What a perfect place. Compared to many 5 star resorts and other ritz carltons around the world, this is one of the nicest resorts I have been to. Kind staff, fantastic restaurants (though pricey), lovely beach, ample shade, nice room upgraded to ocean view - beautiful. Would love to go back soon!

Room Tip: ocean view worth it - make sure a real ocean view, not tangential as you will be looking across at o...

This hotel was really different from what we would typically pick. We tend to like non-chain type places but we were traveling with extended family and opted for compromise. That said we had a great time. It was quiet, not a lot going on in the way of activities and small enough to be manageable and comfortable and really family friendly. It was esp. great for families with young children given the “kids club” and overall highly accommodating vibe. We got a surprisingly reasonable deal by going through AMEX, so I strongly recommend that you call them to arrange your accommodations if you are a cardholder. We probably saved $600 just by doing that; our family of four ate breakfast for free everyday, we got a free night, a free upgrade & $100 toward any hotel service we wanted (we used toward the kids club which is only for kids who are potty trained.) This ended up being a much more affordable hotel choice than lower quality hotels after all of the AMEX discounts were applied. Who knew?

Pros for parents of young children include the sand toys you are given upon arrival and a fun kids club (extra charge) that my little ones really enjoyed. In addition to watching lots of Spanish television they ate Mexican candy, baked cookies and made piñatas with some very nice ladies. Their watching TV and eating candy was fine with me. The ladies obviously had s strategy; the kids were dying to go back the next day, which was great. The only con for parents here is that the pool doesn’t have any zero entry points, which is not ideal with little ones. I would bring floaties if you are with young swimmers. As a plus the pool is really warm & well heated so it was still usable on chilly days (we had 2 of those.) Another con is that the ocean is too rough for little ones, but great for adults. The beach was beautiful.

As others have mentioned the rooms were nothing fancy but they are completely normal & fine and the service all around makes up for this minor issue. When you order room service it always comes in 10 minutes or less, the people working are extremely competent and professional and housekeeping was truly excellent; they came twice a day and always left us sweets, etc. We had an overall positive experience here & especially enjoyed the buffet breakfast which was delicious & featured an omlette station, fresh fruit, and some authentic Mexican food which is not always easy to come by in Cancun ☺ One other major plus, this is one of the few hotel that we have ever stayed in that had our room made up with non-feather bedding (allergies) before we arrived instead of giving it to us after we got there. We always ask a few times ahead of time but no one ever cares until we get there. This was so awesome to not have to worry about after a long day traveling with kids.

My only constructive feedback is that there was construction happening on our floor. Fortunately, it was mostly during the day. Also, It would be nice if they replaced the coffee for the coffee maker in the room without trying to charge you for it. I found that weird given that much cheaper hotels offer complementary coffee in rooms. Although it would be fine I probably wouldn’t recommend this hotel to a couple without children or solo travelers, but it’s a solid choice for families of young children.

*Helpful hint: They have free water bottles in the gym & a free water cooler to fill up your water bottle with clean filtered water. You can also get filtered water, juice or tea at breakfast in a “to go” cup to take with you for the rest of the day. I hate buying bottled water, so I was happy to find this.

Room Tip: If you book through AMEX you get free upgrade.

RITZ CARLTON CANCUN -

STORY #1: INCREDIBLY THOUGHTFUL AND ROMANTIC!!!
Here's our great story... It was just our 40th anniversary and we went to the Ritz where we had an incredible dinner of assorted seafood (lobster, shrimp, crab legs, oysters, tuna tartare) followed by filet mignon in an open-air Cassita with sheer curtains, candles and a star-lit table on the beach, under the stars and moonlight, with our own saxaphone player playing fantastic jazz. Between courses, we danced on the spectacular beach to the cool jazz music. As if the incredible dinner wasn't enough, we were presented wth a beautifully-designed platter saying "Happy 40th anniversary, Mr. & Mrs. P....." which consisted of assorted truffles and a long-stemmed rose. Following this incredibly romantic dinner, we went up to our room where we found rose petals in the shape of a heart on our bed, along with other petals saying "I LOVE YOU", as well as 3 bouquets of roses on our pillows! All from the Ritz! Now come on... you can't beat that!

STORY #2: PING PONG AT THE RITZ!
Prior to going to Cancun, we went on the Ritz Carlton website with a question to "contact us". We asked if they had ping pong? Within a minute, we received a response that they did NOT offer ping pong. We then wrote again and said that we live in Naples, FL where here, the Ritz Carlton DID have ping pong but we understood. Within 5 minutes, we received another e-mail saying that they would have a ping pong table just for us for our entire stay! Upon our arrival, we checked in then looked for the ping pong table. Well, are you ready for this??? We went down to the ballroom are, and found that one of the rooms had our names on the door... "Mr. & Mrs. P......, Ping Pong"!!! When we opened the magnificent double doors to the room, there stood a ping pong table between 2 of the most beautiful chandeliers we had ever seen! And it was all for us! Now THAT'S SERVICE THAT YOU'LL ONLY SEE AT THE RITZ CARLTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Stay on the Club Concierge level. It's a little more expensive but the food you get (5 seatings...

The hotel is very pretty the food is very good however be prepared to spend way too much money for it all! The sun is hidden from the pool after 2 pm. You will be nickeled and dimed to death. Internet is extra. The beach is pretty but have to pay for umbrellas and there is NO shade. Really it was not worth what we payed. Cancun is Cancun the city is cheap and commercial I highly recommend playa del Carmen. Much prettier !

One of the most relaxing vacations I have had. Beautiful beach and the view is spectacular. I think you can see the ocean from almost all the room in the hotel. The service was top notch--all the staff enthusiastically assisted us with our requests. The beach service was top notch, although sometimes the food/drink orders took a while to arrive. On the hotel zone, so it is much closer than having to go to Playa del Carmen. Traveled over President's Weekend. Pool was very busy, but the beach wasn't too crowded and it wasn't hard to get beach chairs. The pool and beach attendants were very helpful.

Room Tip: Oceanfront room gives you full on view of the ocean; ocean view gives partial view. But I think al...

What a wonderful 4 days we spent at the Ritz in Cancun. The hotel was incredible with a very attentive and friendly staff! The pool area was great, not over crowded and the service was fast! We stayed on the club level and I highly recommend it! Great service, food and all around nice atmosphere. This was our first time at this property and would love to go back again. My husband and I travelled without our children and this was the perfect destination to do it! Not one complaint about our stay!

Room Tip: Stay on the cub level - well worth the extra cost!

Arguably one the best dining resorts in North America. This was our second visit to the property, and in both cases the dining experience was outstanding. There are 3 places to eat dinner, 2 for lunch and 1 breakfast option.

For dinner, we suggest Fantino for gourmet dining and Casitas for more casual on the beach dinining. Fantino is an amazing culinary adventure- one of the top places we have eaten at. There is a bread cart they roll around, with 6 homemade breads. Their signature parmesean cheese soup is worth every sip. Nice dessert cart. They were very attentive to our needs, and although very formal, it was elegant and non-stuffy. Highly recommend.

Casitas is very romantic outdoor dining, with dining under the stars and on the beach in a private cabana for an extra charge. The fish tacos appetizer is to die for. The pastry like taco shells are one of a kind.

Service at the pool is prompt and helpful. Good drink menu.

The rooms are a little dated with limited english TV channels. We found the front desk staff a little under prepared at times for special requests, but eventually they honored all of our requests.

The gym is nice. Can't comment on the spa, but prices seemed excessive.

The hotel offers a cooking class, which we did in 2011. It was more of a show than a hands on experience. I think you are better off going to one of the restaurants at this culinary mecca than spending money on the cooking class. Again, Fantino is amazing.

I suggest the hotel sponsored shuttle to and from the airport. It is pricey, but it provides peace of mind in a country with a lot of unknowns. We felt safe at all times, but chose not to leave the property.

Room Tip: Suggest the 4th floor. Balconies are larger. Every room in the hotel has an ocean view though.
