05-07 and there is nothing to worry about. Go and enjoy yourself!!!!!
I am going to skip everything everyone says, because lets face it if you have read the reviews for Sun Palace you already know it is the the BEST of the BEST. BEST staff, beach, hotel, food....best everything!!!! What I feel makes this hotel the BEST is the staff!!! What an amazing crew!!! From when you walk in and get check in by Luigi or any of the other wonderful front desk staff. Next is public relations Italia and Samara take care of any special request you may have.. they are both amazing. House keeping and room serv. take care of your every need. Michel and Manuela are the in room service and they make this dept. shine!!!!!! Bartenders Alan, Luis, Ivan and Jose will make you drinks that you have never heard of before and keep you coming back for more...ha, ha!!! Great entertainment staff Miguel is so fun and friendley. The staff in the resturants could work in the best resturants around the world.. From the Capt. Emmanuel, Gabino and Jose Luis. and the waiters Luis, Miguel , Jorge"Diablo", Carlos, Pablo"Brad Pitt", Arturo, Gabriel, Jorge, Julio, Estrella, Edwardo, Gerry "chef", Benji, Jose. Most important of all are the best chef we have every met...Lauro, Javier and Guillermo (they whip up a new masterpiece everyday). The staff on the beach and pool also keep you full and quenched all day long...Arlene, Karen, Marisol, Maria...
There are so many special staff at this resort, it is imposible to name them all.
We got to Sun Palace twice a year April and August for my birthday and my husbands birthday..We are so greatful to the staff for making Sun Palace our second home/family.
We would never think of going anywhere else. We have been Place Premier members for 3 years and it was one of the best things we have ever done. Pablo Winkler is the General Manager of Sun Palace and his is such a gentlemen.."he is also very blessed to have top notch people working under him". I hope this review helps you see the real Jewel of Sun Palace (The employee's). Happy Vacations!!!!!!!!!

The wife and I stayed at the Sun Palace for 6 days and it was 6 wonderful days. The junior suite, which we didn't stay in much, was excellent. It had a great view of the southern portion of the Zone and beach. Everyone was amazingly polite and helpful. The food was perfect, except our last nite in the Italian resturant - it was a little skimpy. The bar service around the pools and on the beach was quick and polite. We booked trips with Lomas Travel and they provided superior service to the diferrent activities we chose. Additionally, the hotel's activity personnel hooked us up with zipline tours, a massage, and other activities that were part of our package. When we went to the shopping center the hotel's desk personnel divided our Peso's into piles, one for going and one for returning. The only thing I could say negative about this hotel was that it was slightly cold in appearance, meaning the walls were stone, the floors marble, and everything else was either glass or stainless steel. I highly recommend the Romantic Dinner Cruise. Overall I'd rate this a 5 of 5 hotel but when we go back we'll stay somewhere else. If we stay in the Hotel Zone it will probably be closer to the north end where the shops and other resturants are located within walking distance.

My wife and I just returned this past weekend from our second trip to the Sun Palace. We stayed there from 4/25 through 5/2. We went to celebrate our 1st anniversary, we spent our honeymoon there last year. We also traveled with some good friends from back home in Cincinnati on the referral program this trip.

We are members with Palace Resorts for 2 years and don't regret the decision for even a second! We were a little concerned that going back with such high expectations from our first trip would lead to some disappointment. In all honesty this trip was even better than the first!

We booked the trip through the Palace travel agency and the service was great. Easy to deal with, friendly service. Everything was handled with pretty much just a single phone call and the trip went off without a hitch.

We arrived at the Cancun airport on Saturday morning and made it through customs out to our transfer and in the lobby of the Sun Palace less than 90 minutes after we landed.

Pulling up to the SP and walking into the lobby felt a lot like coming home for us. The rooms were not ready because it was not even noon when we got there. We checked in and went through that process quickly and headed out to the pool for lunch and drinks and a dip while waiting for the rooms to be ready.

When the rooms were ready, before check-in time, we went up to our room. When we booked the trip we requested the room on the third floor we had for our honeymoon and that's the room we got. Again it felt a lot like coming home! The rooms are beautiful, clean, modern and spacious. Balcony with a beautiful ocean view was a great place to sit with morning coffee. Wet bar and fridge with everything included, liquor, beer, soda, and always plenty of bottled water. The jacuzzi is great though we only used it once this year in an afternoon between pool time and dinner. The beds are firm but had a mattress cover. I found it very comfortable, my wife found it too firm. Double sinks are a great touch. Some people in the reviews concerned with the frosted glass door to the toilet being less than completely private. We did not have any concern with this. Housekeeping was great with a new towel creature left for us every day. Room was cleaned and the fridge restocked at least once a day. Called on one occasion for extra towels and a pillow and that request was quickly filled.

The pool is definitely a lot smaller than the pools at the larger resorts. Call me crazy but hey, smaller hotel smaller pools. With only 251 rooms at the SP the smaller pool never seemed overcrowded. We didn't spend any time at the quiet pools but chose to spend our time at the activity or main pool and loved every minute of it. Lunch grill/buffet every day had really good varied foods. Drink service at the pool was great. Waitresses were great and quick with the service special thanks to Elfega and Karen! Bartenders were also great. Quick service and great drinks. I never felt cheated on alcohol and I guess if you feel the need just order a double or have more drinks. Special thanks at the pool bar to Nestor and Tony. Those guys were fabulous! Poolside activities could be fun entertaining and sometimes goofy, but never overbearing or annoying. Activities staff were fun and engaging but not pushy, hola Nancy!

While on the subject of the pool I couldn't possibly write this review without mentioning what has proven to be one of the most awesome aspects of the SP. Both visits have had the added pleasure of meeting some really nice people who were there vacationing. Our friends traveling with us from Cincinnati included. We met some great fun people that we hung around with much of the week. We met with some great people from the Tulsa area who were all traveling together. A great couple from Wisconsin. Also 2 couples from Michigan who were about as hilarious as you can get. A lovely couple from England. Even some acceptable Yankees fans from New York, go Sox! You folks know who you are, if you're reading this review, thanks for making the week so much fun and we hope to talk to you soon and see you again.

We went on one excursion which was the Jungle Tour across the street from the SP. The water was too choppy for scuba that morning and it also rained a little. However the speed boats were a blast. Definitely a fun trip without having to travel for over an hour to get to it.

We also spent the large part of one day at the Cancun Palace. It felt somewhat big and impersonal after being at the SP, but a nice hotel none the less. We Had a buffet lunch there at one of the restaurants that had a terrace you sit out on while you ate. The food was really good and the service great as always. We did have dinner at the Cancun that night at the Miyako Japanese restaurant. We made reservations to sit at the teppanyaki tables which has Benihana style service. If you are staying at one of the palace resorts this is a worthwhile take even if you have to take the trip to the Cancun Palace to do it. The chef did a great job both the food and the presentation and the waiters were great! Maybe the tastiest fried rice i have ever eaten.

On the subject of food, it was all really good if not great. No it's not eating at a 5 star restaurant in New York or Boston or Chicago. It is however very very good and I thought it was even better than it was last year.
-Breakfast Buffet...Very good made to order omelets, eggs, pancakes, french toast and other items. Large variety of side dishes plenty of fruits , cereals, pastries and other items. And as always great service, special thanks there to Felipe!
-Covered the buffet at the pool for lunch there is also buffet service at the same restaurant as the breakfast buffet inside at the Mexican restaurant. Again great food and service with plenty of variety including some very good made to order Mexican food.
-The Alamo which is the Mexican restaurant at the resort is very good also. Lots of menu choices served a number of ways and as always exceptional service. If you like coffee order the Mayan coffee after dinner. It's made table side and flamed. A pretty cool show and really tasty! It is served at all the sit down restaurants as well as the lobby bar.
-The Tratto which is the Italian restaurant at the resort requires men to wear slacks, collared shirts and shoes is very nice. The food is very very good and service great. The pastas were well made, the fillet choices tasty tender and made to order. I had the lamb chops served in a rosemary sauce our last night there which was just as good i remembered it from last year. On the subject of dinners bottles of wine which are in the AI plan are pretty good Chilean wines for the most part. They were always good, not $50 bottles but still very good.
-The Steak which is set up outside the Alamo near the quiet pools is also great. The steaks are tender tasty and cooked the way you order them. No they are not Morton's steaks, but as good as any moderately priced steak house you would go to in the States. They also have a pasta bar with a good choice of pastas and sauces. A station for fresh cooked fried tortillas with multiple toppings and a large variety of fresh hot sides, salad bar and desserts. Again great service. I couldn't possibly mention the service there without mentioning possibly one of the best 5 servers that have ever waited on me anywhere. The gentleman's name is Jorge and if you are there find out where he is working and sit in his section. We met him last year and he recognized us through the window at the Alamo the night before. Gave us a huge wave and made a point of coming over to welcome us back with handshakes and hugs. We made a point of saying adios to him the night before we left and he made it known to us that he was looking forward to us returning to see him again next year.
-The Oriental which is upstairs on the terrace on the 1st floor had good food also. I got the feeling the server may have been new but did a good job nonetheless. It was unfortunately windy and almost too dark to read the menus int he middle of the floor away from the lights. They did have a nice selection of sushi, Japanese, Thai and Chinese dishes.

We did take in a couple of the evening shows. We saw the celebrity show and the fire drums show. They were both good. We spent most of the evening time after dinner in the lobby bar between dinner and going to the room for the night. Our waitress there Sarai was great and had our drink orders down from the first round. Hanging out there in the evenings with our friends and the new people we met was a lot of fun.

We did take advantage of the spa services. We had included mani pedi and 25 minute massage included in our membership week. We also had the 50 minute couples massage at the end of the week. We thought all the services at he spa were great.

Lobby staff was great Jesus and Alejandro at the front desk. Keveen and Angel with guest services. These people do whatever they can to make your vacation great and your stay comfortable and fun.

Management are always available concerned involved and according to the staff that I talked too also treat their employees well. A special thanks to Effrain one of the managers who moved around from area to area depending on his assignment for the day. He was one of the first staff members to remember us from last year walked right up to us with a warm handshake, pat on the shoulder and a welcome back. He is a hard working professional and assured us that he looked forward to our returning. Pablo who is the general manager at the resort was friendly helpful and attentive to us and always a pleasure to talk to. He was also very informative on the issue of the swine flu while we were there. On that issue it is amazing just how overblown the entire thing was. The media back home had some our "friends" back here in Cincinnati treating us like lepers. Don't let the media dissuade you from going to Cancun and enjoying yourself!

In conclusion and sorry for the lengthy review, if you are thinking about traveling to Cancun you can't beat this place. Adults only, fun, exceptional food and phenomenal service. See you all next year!

My husband and I went to the Sun Palace 4/19-4/26. It is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a relaxing vacation in the sun. We would definitely return!
General overview-
Sun Palace is about a 10 minute drive from the airport. Take a shared van, it is much cheaper than a cab ($60). We are in our late 20s/early 30s and the majority of the guests were older than us. The staff is extremely accommodating from the moment you walk in until when you leave. The hotel itself is immaculate. Many people have commented on the small size of the pools. There are 3 main pools. One is the activity pool and the other 2 are quiet pools. The quiet pools are small, but if you just want to take a dip to cool off, they are perfect. There are also 2 other pools that nobody ever uses, one is a relaxation pool (in the shade) and one is a very small one on the rooftop near the Oriental Lounge. Sun Palace also has a beautiful beach, which is saying a lot b/c many of the hotels in Cancun either have no beach at all (including the other Palace hotels in Cancun) or the beach/water are too rocky to make swimming enjoyable. Our beach was wonderful. There were plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The wait staff comes by frequently to see if you need drinks. The ocean is hit or miss. The first day we were there it was rough, then the next few days it was perfectly calm, then towards the end of the week it was extremely dangerous. The lifeguard even had to go in to save someone at one point! The position of the Sun Palace makes it so that by 4:30/5:00pm the pools and even most of the beach are in the shade, so be sure to get out early if you want time in the sun! Take advantage of the city bus that goes up and down the hotel strip. It is cheap, easy, fun and is a great way to see the other hotels.
Food/Restaurants:
For breakfast you can either order room service or eat at the breakfast buffet. The buffet has just about anything you want including omelettes, pancakes, french toast, etc made to order. For lunch you can either go to the same restaurant for a buffet and again some cooked to order items or eat by the activity pool. There is a buffet here too and they will also grill fish, burgers, chicken etc. You can also order sandwiches from your lounge chair should you so desire. For dinner there are 4 restaurant choices. We went to 3 out of the 4. We did not go to "The Steak" we walked by several times and everything looked good, but they close earlier than the other restaurants and we are late eaters. Also, although it is called "The Steak" if you want fillet mignon you have to get it from either the Mexican restaurant "Alamo" or the Italian restaurant "Tratto". The Mexican restaurant was very good, but our favorite was the Italian restaurant. Our waiter, Johnny, at the Italian restaurant was great. He was very friendly and made for a very enjoyable dining experience. We also ate outside at the oriental restaurant one night, but weren't crazy about their menu. We did however go there every night for a cocktail and an appetizer, as the ambiance is pretty cool. We are from NYC and eat frequently at 5 star restaurants and found all of the food at Sun Palace to be good, if not great. Unfortunately I am a big dessert person and I didn't really come across any desserts that impressed me that much. But in all honesty I was so full from eating and drinking all day that I didn't really miss them!
Gym-
Sun Palace easily has one of the best hotel gyms I have ever seen. There are treadmills, ellipticals and bikes as well as balance balls, free weights and weight machines. My husband and I both took advantage of the gym several times.
Rooms-
The rooms are beautiful. They look just like they do in the pictures! The only odd thing is the way the bathroom door is made of glass and it is a swinging door so it shuts but doesn't lock. So if you are shy on the toilet this might be an issue for you. As long as you are comfortable with your significant other it isn't a problem!
Tips-
Remember that gratuities are included so don't feel that you have to tip every single person for every little thing, but if you have the same waitress or bartender through out the day or several times, they definitely appreciate the extra few dollars. We saw a lot of people tipping, but I really didn't notice the staff treating anybody differently because of it. Everyone was given the same great treatment.
Excursions-
We didn't do any! We didn't want to spend the day on a tour and most of them were full day adventures. We did however go to see friends on Isla Mujeres on our own. The island was beautiful and a little less touristy than Cancun.
Spa-
We did a couples massage on our first day at the resort. The massage itself was great and an excellent way to kick off our relaxing vacation. The spa, however, was strange. The lockers are outside the spa where the pool bathrooms are. The showers/steam room/ sauna are in one small area. This was fine since my husband and I were the only ones there. But if there had been others there it may have been a bit awkward. First, there are no hooks to hang towels or robes... so you basically have to walk around naked if you are using the showers!
Staff-
Everyone was great. I don't know why people complain about the time-share people. You meet with them for 5 minutes when you first check in. They tell you about the hotel and the included excursions, and then they try to get you to go to a time-share breakfast at another hotel. If you are interested it doesn't sound that bad plus you get free spa services or golf for going. If you aren't interested tell them so, and be on your way! We never heard from the time-share person again after the first 5 minutes. Every employee is extremely hard working and polite.
We had a great vacation at the Sun Palace and can't wait to go back.

This is a beautiful resort with a GREAT beach and a very nice staff. Roger was our favorite!

We did take advantage of the shuttle that ran between the Sun and Moon Palace and spent an afternoon at the Moon. Another beautiful place and will take our kids their when we go with them. Although, the staff at the Moon Palace didn't seem as eager to help you as at the Sun Palace.

We also did the time share shpeel as we wanted to get some mula for the spa. They took us over to Cancun Palace which was a nice place too and had a girl walk us through their "time share" sell. We did not buy as we already own and have something through RCI but thought she was very nice and not very high pressure. From start to finish it was just under 2 hours. Probably would have taken less if we would have said from the beginning we weren't interested but I have to say it was interesting as it was different than what we have. We thought it was worth the 2 hours for 3000 pesos at the spa but I suppose if you had other things to do you would pass.

We went on 1 exursion that they had as part of their all-inclusive and went on the paradise snorkeling tour. That was a great time as they have the 2nd largest reef in the world their. Definatley worth your day if you enjoy snorkeling or if you are new to it. It's at a very nice resort area about 30 minutes from the Sun Palace. If you do this just be prepared for all the extra activities they offer as they are NOT part of the all-inclusive package. You don't have to do one of the activities you can just enjoy the beach and the restaurant available. We did the scuba diving. They get you on the pictures at the end, those are all real pricey. The nice thing was you can charge things to your room.

We wanted to do the Tulem tour as well but that was when the "swine flu" was going around and they had closed all gov't facilities so we didn't get to partake in that. The only thing I need to say about that is they assumed that we knew and so we sat in the lobby for about 15 minutes when finally someone that was going on our tour asked and they told us our bus wasn't coming as it had been cancelled. Didn't really bother us as we were able to just head to the beach but it would have been nice to have someone phone us or something when they new as we could have slept longer or something.

We chose not to do any other all-inclusive activities as we wanted to just relax on the beach. Roger made that the best experience. Tip your waiters and waitresses but you don't have to do much. $1 every other round or so is plenty, we also tipped a couple bucks at dinner too. Yes it is all-inclusive and yes tips are included but it just seemed like the right thing to do. We did not tip to make them get to us faster or wait on us more as we didn't see any better treatment given to us they just work hard and deserved it.

We went at the best time as it was not busy at all. We did not go to party we went to get away and relax (we have 4 young children) and thought this was an excellent place to do it. The beach really is the best for miles. We walked both directions and didn't see anything that compared, in fact there is no beach at some of the resorts down the strip. The waves were nice too and the water was warm.
