“Lots of Fun!”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

I stayed their with my boyfriend for five days leaving 4/19. We booked this hotel with the understanding that it is not a 5 star resort, ergo we did not expect 5 star food/drink. We had a blast and made a lot friends as everyone there is super friendly!!

Room: Unlike those who get bumped, we got upgraded to the ocean view club. It was a nice room with beautiful view of the ocean! Maids did an excellent job keeping the room clean. with our room we got complementary champagne and fruit, one gourmet dinner in the room, and luncheon booze cruise only on Mondays. We opted out of the dinner and it was unfortunately raining on Monday so we didn't do the cruise either. We did meet people who went on the cruise and they said they had a blast!

Food: There is a breakfast and lunch buffet with standard buffet food. There's an omelet station at breakfast and a fun make to order taco station that also makes other food. For a la carte lunch there is pier 12 that over looks the ocean. The tuna steak is a must!!! For dinner there is only a la carte options. We ate at all the restaurants and our favorite was the Shangri La where men have to wear pants and shoes to get in. The steak medallions were our favorite along with the shrimp appetizer. The beef barn had meager appetizers and small steaks that are served sizzling on skillets. Finally there is Sumo, the Japanese restaurant. It is by far the smallest restaurant on the resort that offered standard Japanese food. Not that I count it as a restaurant, but next to the pool is a place called The Breeze. This place opens late in the morning and stays open until about 5a.m. serving up burgers, dogs, fries, and nachos with cheese. This is our saving grace between 2-5 a.m. after a long night of fun.

Fun: The entrainment staff is a lot of fun and takes the time to get to know each guest by the pool and include them in activities such as: volley ball, beer pong, pool aerobics, and various competitions. The easiest way to make friends is by playing tequila volley ball! Oscar, Lucy, Carlos, Alberto, and the rest of the gang make sure you don't get thirsty and everyone who plays is just having fun!!! At night there were various opportunities for fun. We went to the Michael Jackson show that travels from hotel to hotel. It was a great show and not too long! We also went to the Elvis show put on by the hotel staff that was a riot! They got the audience involved and had us rolling in laughter! Wish we stayed long enough for the Grease show.... Also at night they have options to shuttle you to different bars down town for $35-$45 where you get V.I.P. sections and bottle service all night. Always a good time! Finally, there are two bars the Sixties and the Tiki by the pool. The Sixties was pretty empty each night but had pool tables and card tables. The Tiki bar is always busy until 3 a.m. and can get rowdy pretty fast but is a good time.

Random Bits: We never had a problem getting chairs on the pool and there were plenty open on the beach all day. We made lots of great friends from the U.K., Montreal, Toronto, and all over the U.S. There are several stations in the lobby set up to help you plan trips and excursions that never pressure you or approach you! If you get sick of the food you can hop a bus for $1 and eat at several restaurants down the street including Tai and Indian restaurants. Tip well and you will get awesome drinks and great service!

Finally, order yourself a B.M.F.

I stayed at GP with my GF from April 7-14. GP was one of the best vacations we have had. The property is small but well kept, you wind up seeing the same people everyday and it didn't take long to make friends. The beach is amazing and well kept, and the pool is always fun with activities always going on. The one draw back is that there is no swim up bar. The staff is amazing, always on the go trying to keep you involved. The entertainment staff, wait and bar staff, also the cleaning staff were all great. Carlos, Lucy, Marina, Oscar, Alfonzo, Moses, Jose, and Guillermo all deserve special mention! The food was hit and miss, but it's an AI, that is to be expected. Beer pong everyday in the pool to the tiki bar at night, this place was a blast. There really is no need to go into town there is always fun to be had at the resort. Yes some people were taking it a bit far but you are on vacation, right? There was always someone looking after the people that had a bit too much and there were never any problems, no harm, no foul. We met some really great people over the week, you know who you are, and hope to keep in touch with them in the future. All in all GP met and exceeded all of our expectations. If you are sitting on the fence about this resort, go, you will have a great time! Thank-you to all the staff and great friends that we met that helped to make this a great vacation, we will be back!

Room Tip: We were on 3rd floor oceanview and had no problems sleeping.

We concur with many of the other guest comments: a noisy environment, Ok food, great service, terrible English-language skills among the staff! I called housekeeping asking for an extension cord for my laptop -- a guy arrived at our door saying he was sent to fix the TV!

My wife is partially disabled and needs a wheelchair to get around. The wheelchair ramps around the hotel were definitely an afterthought and were very difficult to navigate. However, the staff was most helpful in pushing her up and down ramps which I could not handle.

The bathroom has no ADA accomodations -- no grab bars in the shower, etc. You youngsters can stop laughing now, but the older visitors should be warned!

Room Tip: Higher is better!

This property was great, nice staff and a wonderful beach. Right nextdoor to the Ritz. The waiters come out often to the beach chairs to get drinks for you! No swim up bar though. Entertainment was awesome first night , bad 2nd night , good 3rd night. Micheal Jackson show was ammaazzzingg!! Hotel staf was soooo fun and did whatever you ask. Room kinda small and NO LIGHTING in bathroom for women & make up so make sure you bring a mirror to do your make up on the balcony. Food- Pier 12 ,bad...Shangra-la, bad...The Barn-excellent, Sushi-excellent! Portions are small so remember to order 2 dinners & apps because it takes a long time to get food. The tiki bar outside at poolwas our favorite place at night!! Beer garden inside made the BEST Bloody Mary's in the entire place!! B-fast buffet was great!! We may stay here again! :) good price.

Room Tip: Make sure you get an ocean view, lagoon view only means street and busses view because lagoon is on...

I have just returned from a wonderful holiday at the GP accompanied by my 81 year old mother and daughter in her 20's. We choose the hotel as we wanted a quiet adult only hotel with all inclusive package. I could thoroughly recommend the Golden. The hotel was small and staff were able to give personalised attention to the guests and were extremely attentive to my mother whose mobility isn't great.

food was excellent and the choice of restaurants catered for all tastes. we tried all the restaurants during our stay and returned to them all in rotation during our time there. most of the guests were from the US and Canada with only a handful from the Uk but everyone was extremely friendly.

Accommodation was very comfortable and clean and any requirements were met without a fuss. there were four shops in the hotel and small souvenirs could be purchased from the stall at the poolside. There was entertainment in the hotel in the evenings provided by the entertainment team who worked extremely hard, although would have preferred real singing instead of miming.

We went on a few trips, Chichen Itza which was amazing and a million times more interesting than the pyramids in Egypt. we also went on the Pirate ship trip which is a real fun night and also the boat trip to Mujeras. We used the taxis because of my elderly mother but on our trip to La Isla shopping mall we took the bus which was very cheap and ran every few minutes from the bottom of the road.

A word of advice regarding currency - our travel agent told us to take local currency as dollars are no longer acceptable in Mexico. Wrong advice, everywhere dealt in dollars and all the shops priced everything in dollars and when we asked to pay in pesos they had to convert for us every time. also be aware that there is an airport tax which has to be paid at check in on departure. this had to be paid in pesos (785) per person so we put that aside at the start of our holiday. We were also advised to book into the business Lounge at the airport as it can be bedlam in the departure lounge at busy times.

My wife and I and my brother and his wife stayed here for a week in February, 2012. Thinking back on it now, we enjoyed the trip and the Golden P in many ways, but were also put off by some things, too. We are in our sixties, but consider ourselves to be pretty aware of how things operate in a vacation destination that serves the younger crowd. This was our first A-I (all-inclusive) AND all-adult hotel. Because you have paid up front for all your meals and alcoholic drinks, two things become apparent as you stay there: (1) most everyone drinks more than they would at home, and thus wild laughing and loud music are pretty constant throughout the afternoon and evening and late into the night, and (2) everyone likes to eat really good food because they are at a resort, but the food is mostly very average. So if you have done this A-I routine before, or are a forewarned first-timer, you won't be surprised at the party atmosphere and the ordinary food. However, as long-time cruise lovers, we thought the food is definitely a step down from shipboard fare.

But wait! Lots of good, too! The hotel is on a lovely beach and has a couple beautiful pools. The staff are all very friendly (though efficient is another matter--hey, you are in Mexico!). The rooms are nice and cool. There is always something going on, particularly in the evenings, and the staff is always upbeat about getting you to join in the fun-- volleyball in the pool, trivia contests, canned music In the disco, stage shows, dancing, occasional live music in the lobby, movies, etc.

I must add that we did enjoy several meals: the Japanese restaurant was enjoyable for its numerous appetizers plate as well as the main courses with wine. The Barn has cowboy fare-- steaks and more, and was hit and miss on the quality, though the salads and appetizers were very good. Had a great steak one night and a real jaw exerciser another night. Be sure to get in line right when they open, or else you are in for a l-o-n-g wait. The dress up restaurant (I forgot the name, but there is only one) had wonderful food, very nice refined service, and a grand piano playing itself (yes!) delightfully in the background. We did not care for the quality of food at the seafood restaurant (Pier 21?), though its location on the ocean was beautiful. The morning and lunchtime buffet was pretty middling, but they did cook your eggs however you wanted and had freshly made juice smoothies. Also, they offered many meats and shrimp dishes with whatever additives you wanted at lunch. Plenty of choices, but overall just ordinary tastes. The table waiters were outstanding, friendly AND efficient, and we felt good about tipping them at each meal. One other outstanding food item: the best hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken sandwiches were cooked over an open fire all day and evening at the little hamburger cafe right beside the main pool (it is directly under the buffet dining room). If you crave a delicious burger and fries anytime, do not miss this (5 stars!).

You can catch the city bus into downtown Cancun a couple blocks from the hotel. Only 70 cents! Believe it or not, there is a large Walmart with a McDonalds inside it in old downtown Cancun. You can also take the free hotel shuttle over to their sister resort, the Great Parnassus, and enjoy any of their facilities and restaurants at no charge. What a difference -- it is a family resort, and there were zillions of kids there! Glad we chose the Golden...

So overall, we had a good time. We would probably try a different one if we go again. I rate the Golden Parnassus as a 3.5 star resort. Enjoy your stay!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room as high up as you can (only 6 floors), and at the end of the building away from the l...

This was our 4 th time staying at the GP and we weren't diappointed. The resort is one of the older ones and perhaps needs some repairs but the staff and the food make up for any luxuries that aren't really required to have a good time. The rooms are spacious and clean. It is a small resort and we would recommend this resort for anyone who wants to party but also to those who just want R & R.
We booked with Sunquest again and once again because there were only two of us , we didn't see a rep all week not even for our so called " Appointment " with them. Sunquest always lets me down. However Thomas Cook was the means of transport and the trip to & from was great .

Room Tip: We always choose the lagoon side. We get to see the sunset everynight. Well worth the time spent wa...
