“1ST Class!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2012

This hotel was beautiful. The staff was wonderful. The food terrific. The beach area was great, however if you want an umbrella & chair, you needed to get out early to claim a spot! I do mean early, by 7:30 am, most spots were claimed! Plenty of chairs around the pool, but not much shade. Huge pool & swim up bar was very nice! The breakfast buffet was delicious, and the beach bar food & drinks were great, too.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean front! We had a side room and it was somewhat disappointing to streach your neck to v...

In July 2011, we booked our Feb 2012 Cancun. We picked Marriott’s Casa Magna. Our goals: 1) possibly try an all-inclusive, and 2) use up some Marriott points. Since then, Casa Magna has stopped offering the option to pay with points for their All-Inclusive package they call the “Total Escape!”. That’s too bad, because it was a great option for Marriott points. They did honor our reservations.

We thoroughly enjoyed the whole week! The food was excellent, service was amazing, and the place was very nice to enjoy for a week. The ocean view room was a must.

We arranged the shuttle with Prestige Transportation and they just charged our room directly. You can contact them directly, or have the Casa magna Concierge arrange it. We were in the van at 1:30 PM Saturday with only a 5 minute outside wait; but others in the shuttle van had waited 90 minutes. We heard that there was a peak volume of arriving visitors around 10 or 11 that overwhelmed the lines throughout the airport and for the transportation services.

About the CasaMagna…

The breakfast buffet: We ate there every morning and it was great. The service was always outstanding. The food varied slightly each day which was interesting and nice. We like the omelet bar, pancakes, fruits, and sliced meats and cheeses. There were many baked goods and much, much more. Well worth the price; truly a brunch!

The pool bars and beach bar offer very attentive service. They deliver drinks or lunch items to your chair or table / hut, and you are treated like royalty. What more could you want?!?!

The beach and pool were both well kept and never too crowded (Feb 18-25). Music at the pool is upbeat and fun. The solitude on the beach with just the steady breeze is a nice alternative for a change too. The beach towels get used to mark territory for some guests, but there were plenty of chairs – not really necessary to play the towel game.

We made dinner reservations 2 times for the Capilla (same location as breakfast). Wow! It was 5-star dining – just wonderful. I had the ribeye and my wife had the petit filet. We ate at Mikasa one night, and enjoyed the Japanese dishes. Champion’s sports bar is an informal choice for good pub fare and plenty of sports channels in action.

For a break for the sun, we went to the Isla Mall about a mile north and across the street. That was fun and there were a good mix of shops to enjoy. We had a great salad at the pizza restaurant and they share their wi-fi with customers.

A day trip to Isla Mejeres with Aqua-world was fun. After we saw the line waiting for the ferry back to Cancun we were glad we were on a charter with an open bar instead. But if you don’t want to spend the day on an agenda with 30 others, then the Ultramar is the other (cheaper) option. Our trip included lunch, a brief snorkel stop, some time in the shopping area, and a chance to see the island from a golf cart; but you need to reserve the cart early, not enough carts/time for everyone to take that side trip.

Summary: would go to Casa Magna again, and again. A really nice place; very friendly, attentive staff; some amazingly good food and drink; good location; and all you expect from a Marriott property.

Room Tip: Get an Ocean View - worth the upgrade!

If you should have the opportunity to visit Cancun, this is a great hotel to enjoy your stay. It offers a bit of everything, and in the heart of all the activities and restaurants in Cancun. The amenities are great and the beach is spectacular.

Room Tip: Request a beach view is possible.

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times in the last 6 years. While the rooms are clean they are basic but you won't spend a lot of time in your room. This is not an all inclusive but we don't eat or drink enough to have an inclusive make sense. I would advise that you splurge to have the breakfast buffet included; it is a mix of wonderfully fresh fruit, pastry, made to order eggs and other classic breakfast foods. We usually indulge in this and then get a snack at the beach or pool for lunch and have a late dinner off property. Always enough chairs and umbrellas and the attendants at the pool are great! Beautiful grounds and never a "crazy" guest, just a bunch of people relaxing. We always travel the week or two before Christmas; they are in full Christmas mode and getting ready for the busy season but there are not many guests and you get a great rate! This might as well be a time share we come here so much!

Room Tip: A mid-level facing the ocean!

It is a decent place that we will visit again.
The restaurant inside the hotel are terrible. Dont go there.

The room was very nice. Not big but enough size.
Generally good service. Friendly staffs.

We were very disappointed with our stay the first week in January 2012. Initially we were impressed by the lobby and the property, but that did not last long. First of all, they nickel and dime you for everything, which is not the case at the Royal Sands, where we stayed previously for six nights. The beach was ridden with trash and the majority of the chairs were in ill repair. The service on the beach was also lacking. It took forever to place an order with a waiter. We ordered smoothies and they were watery and carbonated. Very odd. The biggest let down though had to be our room. First of all, it was very small for four people. In addition, it was also in need of repair. There was rust in the bathroom and room just appeared more tired then I would expect. The icing on the cake was when the hotel used the courtyard area right outside our room to have a breakfast for a conference. We were woken up at 7:00 in the morning to the staff setting up. We heard large round tables and chairs being dragged along the pavement and plates, glasses and silverware clanking. It was inexcusable. When we complained to management they were very unsympathetic and only offered to credit our room $50.00 when I mentioned that I am a contributor on Trip Advisor.

We are really sorry for not providing a relaxing experience at our resort. All the maintenance and service details that you mention have already been shared with the involved Department Heads and are already being looked more closely.

Only stayed here one night on a layover and didn't have the time to explore the entire facility. It seemed very opulent. Had a few minor issues. Upon check-in was told the key machine was down so the bell boy had to escort me to my room. They never brought a key so I had to return to the front desk to get it. I've never stayed at a hotel that doesn't at least offer free WiFi in the lobby or a common area. Casa Magna charges for use of WiFi anywhere on the property - even for elite Marriott rewards members. Thougt the breakfast buffet was good but overpriced. Room was clean and spacious. Would probably take a pass on this property next time around.
