“Everything was great except for the food”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

The place was great very clean and the staff was great. The food wasn't bad but very plain in all the places except for the italian place. The only other thing is that our group was couples from mid to late 20's to late 30's and we all like to go out dancing when on vacation. The dance club was nice but it played the same music every night but the biggest problem is that you have kids in there drinking that tend to cause ploblems.

Room Tip: I can't remember the building I stayed in but it was the Middle one out of the three that were t...

Overall service was stellar. Staff is very quick to attend to your needs without lingering for a tip.

Overall service was stellar. Staff is very quick to attend to your needs without lingering for a tip.
The upside of staying at this resort is that it is very family oriented. So if you're worried about your children being bothersome to others - this resort is for you. It also serves well for those traveling solo who want some relaxation and don't want to be bothered by random singles or teeney bopper club rats.

Another great feature are the other two resorts that are owned by the same company. Moon Palace offers a courtesy shuttle bus to the two other resorts, Beach Palace and Sun Palace - both of which are nicer - especially the beaches.

Food overall is what was to be expected at most resorts. The buffet food was by far the worst. The only time I'd suggest eating there is for Breakfast. Lunch and dinners arent good from the buffet. You're better off at the grill house for lunch, and making a reservation for the slightly nicer restaurants on site for dinner. Of those, I dined at the Oriental and Mexican ones. Both of which probably used ingredients you'd commonly find at the buffet - but with different spices and more fresh.

Drinks were stellar. Alcohol selections were of an extremely wide variety. I made friends with the bartenders at the Lobby Bar. Nayeli and Andres will take care of you. I promise. Take good care of the kids that work here - they make 6 USD per day. I know it's an all inclusive but even tipping a dollar here and there wouldn't  kill - its nothing for us North Americans.

The rooms were very clean. You can tell that they are also of an older foundation - but they have done seemingly decent jobs on updating the look and decor of the rooms. They come with hot tubs/jacuzzis which is a plus.

There are a handful of channels available on the "satellite" TV. Most of which are not channels you would ever be interested in watching at home. I only tuned into the entertainment channel - some of which was only in Spanish - but other than that your typical E!News.

Downsides... There are a few things I want readers to be aware of with this resort. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY..... :

Beaches.
The beach at Moon Palace is no where near as nice as pictured online or in any travel agency magazines. Of this I'm sure. The beach water is NOT turquoise - but a darker blue and is laced with seaweed everywhere you turn.  I'm told that there is a reef in this part of Island that separates itself from the other nice beaches (at the other resorts), and so Moon Palace gets all of the left overs this way. Also, there is a jellyfish warning. Now I'm not big on swimming, but it's in no ones interests to fly to a beach where you cannot swim. You can barely wade in the water. Not worth it. I believe the tide/pull is what you need to also be aware of. I made small talk with a woman on the beach who was there with her family and was told by the life guard that it was really only a good idea for those who are "good swimmers" to venture out. This woman considered herself a good swimmer - but found it difficult to come back to shore only being about 10ft from it. There are flags on the beach with different colours indicating whether or not it is wise or safe to swim. There was a red flag on the beach the entire week I was there - it was desolate. People only really tanned on the beach. I'm told that the flag is almost always red (no swimming allowed), if not yellow (precautionary). You're much better off taking a shuttle to any of The other two properties - there are nice waves, white sand, it's just superb.

Pools.
One would assume that since the beaches aren't swimmable - that you can rely on the pools. Wrong. The pools aren't as nice as pictured online either. They make do. But they are of an old foundation (tiling etc) and that's very obvious with a second glance. They are steps away from falling apart. I suppose it's a nice tanning area?

Timeshare
Avoid these people with a passion. They'll only waste your time.

Beach Vendors
These are independent from the resorts. They will try to sell you items you would typically find at the hotel shop for double the price. They'll also sell you cigars, and, depending on where you are situated on the beach and how late in the day - "Cocaina".

Overall good trip. Looking forward to returning - maybe to Sun Palace - which I should note, is an adults only resort.

I absolutely appreciated the comments of previous guests at the Moon Palace. We were aware of the credits you get at registration and knew how how to maximize these options. Upgrading was a brilliant choice for us! The clear view of a full moon over the water from our beach front balcony was breath-taking. Other upgrades and perks were included like a really nice brand of soaps'n'lotions, delightful treats were delivered each afternoon, a lovely massage was also part of the upgrade as was a romantic dinner for two in the moonlight, ... A casual mention of a recent birthday was enough reason for the wonderful staff to surprise us with a decadent chocolate torte and champagne. Otherwise, things were perfect. We enjoyed being serenaded at the excellent restaurant by the golf course. When everything is A+ it is a challenge to stand out --- but, Rafael Rodriguez and Jorge Leiis, at the breakfast restaurant, managed to accomplish this! Every day was made brighter by their attention and diversions. (a new tongue twister or the appearance of a grasshopper woven from a single leaf!!!)
Of all of the all-inclusive holidays that I have been so fortunate to enjoy, Moon Palace is easily one of the very best.

We stayed at the Moon Palace for a week in Feb. We both loved it.

Arrival was nice and smooth, quick check in and great service. Mario gave us a mini tour on the way to our room which was nice to get a bit of info so we knew where to go.

Our room was beautiful, nice big bed and a double jetted tub with a view of the ocean. room was clean.

Grounds are so clean, the staff works really hard to make sure everything looks good. They always seem busy working away.

Staff is super friendly, everyone say "Hola" as they walk past etc.

Pools are huge, lots of seats. There is drink service around the Pool. We spent lots of time around the swim up bar. Staff work hard to make sure your drinks are taken care of. Erik makes awesome drinks. He made different drinks all the time to try, so that was fun. We had met people from all over and it was a great place to chat and make new friends

Food was good, lots to choose from. I like that you don't have to make reservations, you just go up when you want and either gt seated or they have pagers like local places and it lights up when they have a table. Our waits were never long. The buffet had lots to choose from and food turned around quickly so it was fresh and hot.

Resort Credits. These are a nice touch. We used ours to upgrade our room, swim with the Dolphins, Romantic Dinner, Couples Massage at the Spa. There are lots of options to use these.

Beach is nice to walk on, The water has lots of weeds. We went to the Beach Palace one day to play in the Ocean. Was a fun day. You can also Parasail and JEt Ski from the beach right out front.

We loved the Moon Palace so much we are going back with friends in May. Our experience with the staff to help book our trip has been great. Quick replies on E-Mail and very helpful to set things up for us. We met Norma [who is on this board often] while there and she was very helpful in our new booking as well. Thanks Norma.

Overall the Moon Palace is a great resort I highly recommend. I have been to many resorts in the area and booked again at the Moon Palace for May. If you choose to go to the Moon you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Use resort credits to upgrade room if available. We stayed in the Nuzic section

We have stayed at the Moon Palace many times over the last nine years. Ultimately we purchased a time share with Palace Resorts. I can't say enough about this resort. The staff is absolutely wonderful. They are friendly, professional and attentative. From the moment checking in until check out the staff will do whatever is needed to assure your vacation incredible. Our consigliere Javier was very helpful in arranging all our services and activities for the week, and follow up with us to make sure all was as expected and to our satisfaction etc. We stay on the Nizuc side as it's atmosphere is what we like. It's a bit more quiet than the Sunrise side and not as quiet as the Grand Moon side, but that is all preference. The restuarants were also very good. 10 total on the resort giving many choices to select from. From elegant dinning to casual. We enjoyed them all. Great food and service. The Palapa Defines restuarant on the Nizuc side is located near the beach. We like the layed back atmosphere and food there . Steak, chicken and fish always tastey. The staff was incredible, we came to know some of the wait staff , Valentin, Angel and Jazime. They all were so very attentive and friendly and made our dining experience so enjoyable. The chef Julio prepared our dinners to our liking and the manager Ana always paid a visit to our table to make sure we were happy with everything. I cant say enough about them.

One evening we had a private romantic dinner on the roof balcony. 4 Courses with Lobster being the main course. A saxophone player provided elegant music and the staff was great.

The beach area is beautiful and the sand clean. If you are a swimmer you may want to select Beach palace instead. The beach is more beatiful, but the resort is smaller with less activities.

The rooms are clean and always stocked with our favorite beverages and the house keeping staff does a great job. We stayed in Mono / Nizuc and our Maid Enita was incredible.

We are already planning our next trip. Although we are partial to the Moon Palace any of the Palace Resorts are top notch.

Room Tip: Depending on what your tastes are. The rooms on the Grand Moon side are newer and a little larger t...

"It's a pleasure" This is what you will here at all of Palace Resorts. We were treated royally. We had no complaints from the time that we arrived until the time that we left. We traveled with 2 children. In the Gym we were greeted each day with a beautiful smile from Nelida Valencia Garcia. She always made my son and me feel welcomed to the facility. She even got my son to do Zumba! Although I myself only used the up to date equipment and didn't partake in the classes that Nelida instructed, I couldn't help but notice how Nelida ALWAYS kept a smile on her face, never ran out of energy just seemed to very much enjoy her responsibilties. I hope to see Nelida next year.
