This hotel was most accomodating, super clean and convenient. The only drawback is it is on the bay, which is really not for swimming (stingrays, jellyfish in the spring). If swimming in the ocean is a draw, this place is not for you.

We spent week 4 at the Royal VCI, Club International, BCI or whatever it is currently called. And that is the only problem. Before we went, we just assumed it was the Royal, but no - there is a hotel called the Royal so be prepared to tell taxi drivers it is Club International or V (in Mexico V=B) CI. The resort itself is pristine! Manicured landscaping and grounds, perfectly clean everywhere, very friendly staff, and we loved the food at La Palapa. The beach was a little disappointing, not the typical Caribbean beach, but great for kids. The two pools were beautiful and one has a baby pool. This is not a place for partiers; it's quiet and relaxed. We took the city bus into the busy hotel zone with no problems or fears. The resort has a shuttle that goes to all the other Royal resorts in Cancun and you can use any of the other resorts' facilities for free so if you want big surf, go to the Sands or Mayan. The shuttle also runs to Captain's Cove and Poncho and Willy's restaurants, both owned by Royal resorts. The food at Captain's Cove was very good and, if you go on the right night, you can watch them feed the gators in the lagoon. We were so impressed with Royal's citizenship with free buses for their employees to get to work, elementary schooling for families of staff, English lessons for staff, even a foundation to help with education and poverty in the Caribbean Islands. And they recycle and are conscious of the ecology. We had a two bedroom right on the beach. Only one bath but sleeps about 5 or 6 with a murphy bed in the living room, twin beds in 2nd bedroom and a queen in the master. Good kitchen. We liked that there are other Royal resorts in Mexico that we can do internal exchanges into. We own 4 timeshares so we are not new at this. Also liked the tour company in the lobby and the fact that you can exchange money right at the front desk. The timeshare sell wasn't pushy and we wanted to buy so they were very accommodating. It did take up a lot of our time but they kept buying lunch and breakfast for us! One small complaint is that, even though we went to orientation, we didn't find out about bicycle rentals, laundry, crafts, or any of that until we were there several days. Consider your first visit a fact-finding mission! Great tours of Chichen Itza (too many vendors there in your face) and Xcaret (lovely) but that's all we did so more adventures await.

Room Tip: Avoid Lagoon View rooms. They really overlook a busy road.

My wife and I have stayed in Cancun over a dozen times. Our favorite is the Royal Cancun (formerly know as the Club International De Cancun). The resort is beautifully maintained, the staff is exceptional and it is convenient to other attractions in the Hotel Zone and other attractions. The resort is on the Bay of Women Bahia de Mujueres. The white stucco resort is a lovely combination of American hotel standards and the beauty of Mexico.

Room Tip: beach front and pool front rooms are ideal. We prefer the C units with two bathrooms.

Stayed in a 2-story 2-bedroom room (C1441), which we exchanged via Interval Intl. The room was very spacious, having over 1400 sqft and 3 balconies. The upper master level is quite nice. The kitchen was adequate and we did miss having a jacuzzi tub, especially since there's no hot tub on property either. The beach/water is really nice if you have small children as it is very calm and shallow. However, once you get past knee-deep, its basically all sea-grass. This is when you use the complimentary shuttle and go to The Royal Sands. The pool area is really nice and the landscaping is about the best I've ever seen outside of Disney. They do an amazing job and it lends to the overall atmosphere and pure relaxation. Plenty of chairs to be had and happy hour is not to be missed. The location is another added bonus. One day we took a short walk over to the Ultramar ferry and went over to Isla Mujeres (North Beach, wow). The bus stop is also in front of the resort. Oh, we did the taco night at La Palapas, which we wished we had skipped. Apparently cheese isn't a big thing on tacos in Mexico and the quality was okay (not worth money). We also did the Hacienda Sisal and that was definitely worth it (especially if you use your 10% off room card). We probably drank our tickets worth for sure, including the kids. The entertainers there were excellent. The staff at every place we visited or utilized(ferry) were simply magnificent. I couldn't believe how friendly the Ultramar folks were. Imagine public transportation staff in the states, ha. I do wish we had exchanged for some pesos early on as that probably would've saved us a little bit here and there. I'll let some pics do the rest of the talking. You won't regret staying here, especially in January!

Room Tip: If possible, get a 'C' room (the 2-story 2-bedroom). Most should have ocean views as well.

Just returned from a week at The Royal..... Outstanding!!!

Service - couldn't have asked for more friendly and helpful people! Thanks Hildago, we enjoyed your service at the pool and on the beach! You ask for it, you get it!

Beach - amazing...very relaxing, the waves were big, but we swam and enjoyed the ocean! Never an issue getting a bed down on the sand.

Food - second to none!! Room service and the magic box was perfect, any time of day! Marie Marie...the chateaubriand was to die for! Pelicanos...one of our friends had plate after plate of calamari! Loved the lasagna! Ask for anything and you got it!! Spice was buffet, always a great selection breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lots of variety, fresh seafood, and everything always tasted delicious. The salsa and guacamole....yum!

Drinks - not watered down! Coffee fraps with baileys and kalhua was the ladies drink choice, as well as dirty monkeys. Lots of cold beer, everything to quench your thirst.

Room - spectacular! We had 739, great views from both sides. The shower is heaven! Loved the turndown service and the stocked room bar. What you see in the pictures is what you get!

Spa\Gym - great facilities, the steam rooms with eucalyptus are wonderful! My fiance and I and others in our group all got massages, and the ladies really are fantastic! Thanks Josephina and Christina.

Entertainment - very good. The Mexican night was great, the dinner fantastic. The pool volleyball is great to watch and play...be careful of the KFC!! The staff allways have activities on the go, but they don't pressure you to participate...and ladies, they are pretty easy on the eyes! Caribbean night on the beach with the dance floor and DJ was awesome, they really go all out!

I will happily return to this hotel, and I plan to next year. I would definately recommend!!

As a timeshare owner at the Royal Mayan, another of the Royal Resorts, we traded a week to spend at the newly refurbed Royal Cancun (formerly VCI). The Royal Cancun is squeaky clean from top to bottom as it was refurbished a couple of years ago when the original timeshare leaseholding expired. The service is excellent and very friendly and at the top of the charts as attested by owners and guests who return year after year. I understand that about 30% of the resort has been sold to folks, and the rest of the guests have reserved vacation weeks. Despite the fact (or not) that timeshare sales people are on property to secure sales, there is no push to make you sign on the dotted line. If you want to just relax, have some margaritas, cervezas, and enjoy the excellent beach, no one will bother you. Just a note, as we are owners of two weeks at Royal Mayan, and Royal Haciendas we told our "concierge" that we had no intentions of purchasing another week, He accepted that easily and didn't bother us one moment for the whole week.

Service as mentioned above is outstanding with everyone going the extra mile to make your guest experience memorable. Two for one happy hour starts about 3 pm...even a few minutes earlier. The food is what you get in the hotel zone, nothing too spectacular, steady average continental, american and mexican cuisine. Dinner specials change nightly.

The villa suites are mostly two bedroom/one bath. Flat screen tvs', small balcony, fully equipped kitchen with plates/dishes/glasses for 8 persons. Although 8 persons would be a squeeze at the Royal Cancun. Daily maid service, and know that your villa will be sparkling clean every day.

The only negative I have about the Royal Resorts is that now that have given just about all their employees "american" names. Lloyd, Jason, Denise, James, etc, you get the picture. I find this a little off putting and disrespectful of the Mexican culture by doing this. Let's face it, we can certainly read their name tags, or make an effort to do so, to talk with Miguel, Carlos,
Gloria, and Lorena. After all, we're in their country.

Room Tip: As for rooms in the B building or the buildings facing the beach.

The entertainment crew at this hotel is the reason we go there!!! Bernardo, Joshua, Armondo and Luis are the best!!! Baach at the beach bar is also one of our favorites! The only thing that I can complain about is the fact they have cut back on straws and ask that you keep yours for your next drink! C'mon this is a 5 star resort!!!
