“Love Live Aqua”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2012

My wife and I spent 10 wonderful days in Hotel Live Aqua. This is a completely new hotel, renovated after Hurricane Wilma, which emphasizes the details, with aromas from all sides and a room with absolute silence. Located opposite the shopping centre La Isla, you have a number of options for fun. Catching the bus which costs less than ten dollars you arrives at the party. For sure when we will be at Cancún we will choice Live Aqua Cancun. NO CHILDREN! :)

My husband and I have been 3 times to Riviera Maya, but this was our 1st time to Cancun. Live Aqua was everything it advertised and we were very pleased with our stay. This is an adults only resort with a very quiet and relaxed atmosphere.

We arrived by Best Day shuttle which was safe and efficient, and just a timely and efficient for the return trip. Check-in was simple without any hard sell time share sales pitches. They do offer a tour of a sister hotel which rewards you with complimentary spa credits if you want to take advantage. This is a nice way to treat yourself to a massage or other pampering but if you tell them 'no thanks' they take you off the list and never approach you again unless you show interest.

We had a room on the 5th floor which included the Aqua Club upgrade. The Aqua Club was a nice feature because it gave us easy access to a private lounge with premium alcohol, awesome views of the sunset on a private balcony, as well as both continental breakfast with pastries, meats & cheeses, and coffee & teas, and evening appetizers with 3 different hot entrees each night and desserts. Several nights we made this our evening meal snacking on appetizers and sipping beverages while watching the sunset and visiting with other guests.

We also tried the Italian buffet at Siete one night, as well as MB and Azur. All had good service, lots of menu choices, and good food. Keep in mind that you are visiting a different country and the food will likely be different than food choices back home. Be open minded. With the all-inclusive, you've already paid for everything before you left home so be bold and order one of everything! Try new things. Order the soup and the salad. Order the chicken and the fish. Try all of the deserts! And indulge yourself to one of every drink someone else is enjoying. You're on vacation! You should never walk away hungry or thirsty. If you don't like it, don't be rude, just order something else. Your server wants to please you and they don't appear offended if you want to try something else. If you're happy, they're employed for another day. You don't have to tip, but if you enjoy being treated like royalty then let them know how much you appreciate how hard they are working to give you that experience.

Others commented on the aromatherapy and although strong in some areas of the resort we did not find it offensive. My husband suffers from migraines but did not have a single episode in 8 days! The lobby area and some areas just outside the elevators were scented but not offensive, and you can request scents for the burner in your room if you wish. The restaurants were not scented areas.

Rooms came with hair dryers and all of the shampoos, lotions and kits you need just like a hotel at home so leave that stuff at home and travel light. We don't travel but once a year and yet we were able to spend 8 days with one carry-on bag each. No checked luggage! Remember, you've paid for all of this before you left home so let them provide things for you. Really all you need are a couple pair of shorts and shirts, one pair of casual shoes and a pair of sandals, one comfortable evening outfit, and your swimsuit!

Our room was roomy with a great view and a minimally stocked fridge. Bottled water, sodas and minimal snacks were provided. The bed was very comfortable with soft bedding and several pillows piled on the bed to choose from. The room temp was comfortable the entire stay. 24-hour room service was basic and efficient. Again, tipping is appreciated and is shared by everyone on the shift so they all work hard to make your stay a memorable one.

The exercise area was in use each time we went by and the gift shop and fragrance shop were minimal but adequately staffed and stocked. We walked two blocks to a mini market to buy additional sunscreen and found the price much cheaper than either the gift shop or the mall across the street.

La Isla mall is just across the street and there were two more malls within a mile or two. Each mall had hi-priced name-brand shops and several recognizable restaurants such as Hooters, Bubba Gump Shrimp, Chilis and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. Again, you've already paid for food and drinks at Live Aqua but these options are fun if you are looking for variety or places to explore outside of the resort as the resort itself does not promote itself as a party place. It is very relaxed and layed back.

Our best recommendation of this resort was the pool area. There are 7 pools and each is a different tempurature so you can decide whether you want to cool off or to float around in relaxing warmth. The most remote pool had the swim up bar and was busy all day. It was the most crowded and noisy of all the other areas. The pool waiters and bartenders are great. We especially liked Freddy, Julio and Luiz. We made it a point to stay in Freddy's area our entire stay and when he moved to a new area, so did we! He took such great care of us and really made our stay a memorable one. Freddy and Julio brought us delicious foods to try from the pool menu and from Sea Corner restauarant that we would not have even known about if we hadn't started chatting them up. Remember, you're there to be pampered so don't be afraid to ask them what they recommend. We ate so much shrimp and other seafood like calamari and octopus that we would never have explored at home. The shrimp cocktails at the pool were so good we ate them every day once we discovered them. And we never left the pool! They will serve you all day long. There is also a hamburger and hot dog cart, and a booth where the cook makes fresh paella with seafood, chicken or beef. The pool waiters will bring these to you as well, you just have to ask. We tipped our waiters a few dollars here, a few dollars there, and the service was worth every cent! They earned it, and we deserved the pampering, too!

You can reserve the covered cabanas which come with a 10-minute foot massage per person per day. Many people reserved one day as a treat and then ended up reserving additional days. There are plenty of lounge chairs by the pool and even more beach chairs if you prefer the ocean environment but be aware that the breeze is strong and so are the waves. There are lifeguards stationed along the front of this resort and the red flags are up year-round to warn how strong the currents are.

You'll be given a printed schedule of events upon check-in that lists daily activities and evening entertainment. Events included a Saturday night Fire Show, a wine and cheese tasting, a tequila tasting, yoga, etc. but you have to seek them out. The staff really leaves it up to you to make this as active or as relaxing as you want. After all, it's your vacation so you get to leave the real world at home and make this time your own. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Place a towel or one of the robes provided in front of your hotel room door along the floor. This re...

Because I live by these reviews, I feel compelled to add my own.

My wife and I stayed at the Live Aqua this March for almost a week. Overall, I would highly recommend this resort.

Pros
1. The food at the various restaurants was very good. For an all inclusive, this is about as good as it gets. You can hit the buffets, but you also can go to many ala carte restaurants. Had some delicious dishes that I would be willing to pay $15-$25 an entree for here in the states. Considering that you can order apps, salads, etc., with most meals, very happy with the food.
2. The scenery is beautiful. Whether sitting on our patio or beside the pool, you can't complain about the place from a scenic standpoint.
3. The beds are comfortable. Rare, in our experience, for an all-inclusive. No complaints about sleep!

Cons
1. Check-in was not good. We reserved a room with king sized bed, but ended up in a twin bed room. Ended up working out okay, but this was a disappointment. On top of this, our clerk at check in kept on telling us that he was looking for a king sized bed room. We assumed that this is why it took about 25 minutes to check in. At last, he smiled and sent us on our way. Only to find out that we were in a twin bed room. If he had told us that he couldn't find us a king size room, we probably would have been okay with it. Instead, he lead us to believe that we were going to a king-sized bed room - only to discover the twin beds. Silly.

Our time at the Live Aqua was relaxing and I would overall give it a positive recommendation.

This was a wonderful relaxing vacation. The whole time it felt as if we were at a spa. We had a two hour time difference, so we found ourselves going to bed early & waking up early to keep on schedule. Therefore, the lack of nightlife didn't really factor for us. We did go to EGOS a couple of nights and really enjoyed the entertainment from the bar tenders. During the day we'd spend time at the pool. There was always someone coming around to check on us. The restaurants provided delicious food choices. I am very conscious of what I eat, and I was able to make healthy choices the whole vacation. The spa was wonderful. I would have liked to have used the spa daily (for the sauna & steam room). I used the fitness room and went to yoga a couple of times. The yoga was good, but not for beginners (there was a lady who came one day who never went to yoga before, I felt kinda bad for her!) The room was reallly nice!!! We had a view of the La Isla mall & the ocean. It was a bit noisy at times, but overall the room was really nice! We really enjoyed spending time at the coffee shop & the bar by the coffee shop. Santiago was great at providing us our requested drinks :) Despite all the criticism of Mexico at this time, we really enjoyed our vacation to Cancun. Live Aqua was definitely a beautiful and relaxing place to stay.

We were at Live Aqua from March 14 thru the 21st. I will admit I had a few reservations going in but all in all we had a wonderful time !! The Hotel is beautiful and very well kept. I loved the aroma therapy smells all about but my husband.......not so much but the place was awesome and he really didn't care. There were some very minor things that caught our eye like never knowing when or if the maid service is coming but when they didn't show up I just called the front desk and someone was there in minutes !! Anything you need, just call and you will get it !!
I noticed they had taken the steak off the menu at MB, the new menu looked rather boring so we never even ate there, too many other choices. While we were there they took steak off the Azul menu as well. I commented on this and they served me a steak !! I believe they are going to try to get people into the new steakhouse (you have to pay to eat there). I went and looked at it and it is cool, out in the bushes but not something I would spend money on. It appears they are trying to cut corners there and with the alcohol and it just puts a bad taste in ones mouth. They serve draft beer on the beach and at the pool and it gets hot quick so we just rustled up an ice bucket (ice machines are at the end of the hallway) and put our minibar beer IN CANS in the bucket and went to the beach. They also need to train the bartenders better. My husband would order Canadian whiskey and water and would get Scotch, even in the Aqua lounge ! One day they were putting orange juice in the margaritas ! We quickly found out that if you want a mixed drink, go to the bar and point at what you want. Every bar has different stuff but the Azul bar is stocked well !! Also, the wine is really pretty good.
We LOVED the breakfast buffet at Siete and were at the Cevecheria daily for lunch. Room Service was good and we had most dinners at Azul. Loved the mussells !!
The Spa is worth its weight in gold, one of the highlights of the trip !! A shout out to Natalia, Gloria and Hector !! Thanks for the most relaxing day EVER !!
We had the Aqua Club lounge but seldom used it. It was very nice there and a very easy check in and out. They didn't have Canadian Whiskey of any kind and we asked could they get some and they got Jack Daniels Lol !! Hey, they tried.
Overall, we LOVED the place. Wished the sea had been calmer but thats not their fault. Give it a try !! It would be PERFECT with steaks on the menus and some trained bartenders !!!
If you want a day trip to remember forever Flaviotours.com simply amazing. In closing, it took United Airlines 28 hours to get me home (I live in Seattle) without so much as an Im sorry. I paid over a grand for the tickets. I would go to mexico on a Burro before I would set foot on that airline again and I know hundreds of people who feel the same way. R.I.P. Continental !!
Happy trip people !!!

Room Tip: We were on the 6th floor just left of center. Perfect !!

We arrived on a Sunday and left the following Saturday. We paid extra for the Club Aqua access. Im not sure the extra money was worth it. The club provides snacks all day and top shelf liquor in the evenings. But all the other liquor is fairly good as well. The Food was the the star of our trip. There are 3 main restaurants: Azur, MB and Siete. MB was the most disapointing. It was supposed to be the nicest, faciest place. But we found it to be a little over-done. The food was just ok. Azur is open for lunch and dinner. We only went there for lunch, but we went everyday. They have a great buffet with gourmet food. As well as a terrific menu. I would highly suggest the beef tacos. The steak in the beef tacos is fall-apart tender and an amazing flavor. Also the Shrimp rosoto is very good as well. Siete is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and ended up being our favorite place for breakfast and dinner. They always have a huge buffet for breakfast with chefs to make your own customized breakfast burritos, tacos, and omelets. Plus a huge selection of fresh fruit and more traditional american breakfast foods. Paired with a bloody mary or mimosa, breakfast was great. For dinner they offer mexican food al a carte or an Italian buffet that is terrific. 24 hour room service was great as well if you didn't want to come out of your room. All the rooms were spacious, clean, bright and fresh. We also got a couples' massage that was extremely relaxing and a reasonable. price. We booked our next trip before we left. Cant wait to go back@!!@!

Room Tip: The garden view rooms are on level one or two and you can not see the beach. Any other rooms all hav...
