First Impressions when we drove up: Very beautiful drive with fountains and lovely landscape. Friendly doorman greeted us at the door and asked for our names so the check-in process would be quick. Another gentleman personally walked us to the front desk.

Check in: No problems at all. Fast and courteous. We were greeted at the front desk by Israel, a quiet yet polite young man. He informed us that we were upgraded from the Oasis Palm to the Grand Oasis. We easily found our way to the room on our own.

First Impressions of the room: Spacious and clean. Large closets with plenty of hangars. Two double beds pushed together plus a concrete daybed with lots of cushions and a firm mattress. Plenty of lights and a wall to wall window that gave lots of natural light. Two chairs around a glass table in the corner. Bathroom was roomy with double sinks, large mirror, soaker tub and shower.

Pool Areas: We used the round-curvy pool at the Oasis Palm as the rectangular pool by the Oasis Grand was off-limits to us. (The upgrade we got was room only...all other amenities for the Grand Oasis were not included with the upgrade.) There were three main parts to the pool; adult area by the wet bar at one end, kids area in the center where there were stairs and a shallow place to play, and a quiet area at the other end. The pool and area was cleaned every morning.

Bars and snacks: There was a bar just steps away from the kids pool area. We were all served in a polite, friendly, timely manner. Even the kids were given what they asked for; they wanted different drinks each time, and Itzel knew how to make just the right drinks for the kids to try. I would approach the bar and the bartender knew just what I wanted. Now, that's service! There would often be a line-up, but that's to be expected.

Another bar located closer to the adult end of the pool also served snacks. We usually waited 15 minutes to get our food. The service seemed slow. They served mozza sticks, fries, burgers, hotdogs, onion rings, guacamole, and sometimes chicken.

There were two stands located by the pool and they served Ice cream and burgers/hot dogs. The ice cream servings were very small, but a person could have as many as they liked.

A taco stand was located by the pool area and was fantastic. The server would warm the tortillas on the spot and the choice of meat was beef, pork, chicken and red sausage. Toppings included a green sauce, hot red sauce, onions and cilantro, and lime.

Buffets: We only tried the buffet restaurants and it suited our family of 5 just fine. There was an Italian buffet and a Mexican buffet. We liked the Mexican buffet the best. We loved the food and had no complaints whatsoever. There was something for everyone and none of us went hungry.

Service: A smile and friendly hello goes a long way, as well as being gracious to others. We were treated kindly and courteously the whole time. The wait staff was attentive and was mostly aware of plates that needed clearing and drinks that needed refilling. Some servers were better than others.

Kids Club: We were impressed. Our kids ages 11, 9, and 5 attended almost every day and loved it. It was modern and clean and had all the things a kid would enjoy. The women taking care of the kids were friendly, attentive, and I trusted them completely. The reception area was bright and friendly. Stairs lead down to the kids area which consisted of: media room with 7 screens and gaming systems(must be age 7 and up to participate in screens), large craft room with books and toys, disco and movie theater room(every night at 6:30 was movie time), cafeteria, pool area with two water slides and shallow water(swim times 12 to 1 and 4 to 5), playground, and lastly an outdoor amphitheater. Everything was scheduled by the hour. They opened at 10am and went until 5pm and resumed at 6:30pm until 10pm. The crafts were quite detailed...bookmarks that were laminated after the kids coloured them, pinatas decorated with tissue paper, beach hats that were personalized.

Water: The water was very good to drink. We used up the water bottle that we got in our room every day and just drank water in a glass at meal times.

Towels: hang on to your towels and towel cards. They don't like to replace lost or missing towels.

Our stay at the Grand Oasis was excellent and enjoyable. We would recommend the hotel to people traveling with children. There were many families at the resort and we met some amazing people there and wouldn't have had it any other way!

The customer service was just terrible. I don't even know where to begin. Between the long lines, the terrible front desk staff, to the bartenders...

- One day we hadn't received a water bottle in our room so when we asked for one at the front desk that evening, they simply said 'sorry, just go to the bar.'

- When asked for water at the bar instead of alcohol the bartender at the time rolled his eyes, and forgot our drinks numerous times throughout the week, we constantly had to ask twice.

- We lost our room key ( a small little piece of metal, don't most hotels have codes????) and they told us it would be $50.00, so at the end of the week we were fine with paying that and they proceed to tell us it will be $90.00 american. In some tiny Spanish writing at the bottom of the receipt there was some thing saying it's a certain amount per day you have the key. Hardly readable and no one told us this when we got the key. They were very rude, and condescending towards us. When we asked for a manager, they said that this hotel did not have one.

- Rooms had to be changed twice because of broken air-conditioning

- Packed in this resort like sardines - no room to breathe.

- Terrible beach

- Massage was $100.00 for half an hour! At home its $60.00 for an hour.
- awful selection of reservation restaurants - food wasn't even that great at the seafood place on the beach.

- If your not up by 8:00am its too late to make a reservation

- And aren't hotels supposed to have entertainment staff?? I have no idea where they were the whole time or if they even had any.

- Tried to get a transfer for a day to the sister resort Oasis Cancun, however it would cost us $25.00 because it was reading week....

I have been many different places but this was the worst. Went to the oasis palm, room was so bad that we upgraded to the 5 star next door to their better rooms attached to the oasis palms and it was aweful as well, patio door wouldnt lock air conditioner banged all the time even when turned off! The trips offered showed pictures that werent like the trip at all and the info given was incorrect. There was no entertainment except for 4 guys playing mexican music at the tables occassionally and a 4 man band that played until about 9pm and that was it. Everyone was always looking for money. 2 friends lost their wallets and the girls had clothes stolen...Please read these reviews!!!

Stayed here couple of years ago for a week in November. The hotel was absolutely horrible. This was my first ever stay in Cancun. I usually travel to Riviera Maya/Puerto Vallarta areas every year for winter getaway and this was the most disappointing way to spend my hard earned money. This hotel was booked by a friend of mine who was on a tighter budget than me and now I regret for not taking the time and researching this place.

The rooms:
Horrible!!! They smelled, just like they do in any other hotel in Mexico and after years of traveling to this country I learned to live with the smell, but the worst part was that the windows were closed shut and you could not open them to air the room out. In addition to the smell, people apparently smoked in those rooms and due to lack of ventilation you could literally suffocate inside, and just to prove I am not exaggerating I am a smoker and there was no way I could’ve possible stay in that room for more than 5 min, that’s how bad the smell of smoke was. I ended up paying more to stay in the room with a balcony, that new room was better, still smelled, but at least I could keep the balcony door opened.

The pool:
It was OK, small, nothing special.

Beach:
What beach? There is NO beach! A small strip of sand covered in sea weed. Water (or shall I call it a swamp) - shallow, I’d say about 3 feet deep, if you like to swim (like I do) good luck with that, you can probably crawl in the water scratching the rocky bottom with your stomach. The water was dirty from all the boats passing by and parking in the Marina. And as I just mentioned, very rocky bottom.

Entertainment:
Non existing, karaoke almost every night

Food:
Regular all inclusive, all though the sushi bar on the beach was absolutely amazing, probably the only good thing about this hotel.

All Inclusive:
Yeah…right! There is nothing all inclusive about it. You pay $4/day to use the safe in the room, $5 for each bottle of water you use in your room, we ended up walking to the nearest gas station and stocking up on bottled water, it was a whole a lot cheaper that way. No soda or alcohol in the room either.

This was certainly a big disappointment comparing to what I am used to when traveling to Mexico. I love this country and the people but this hotel is a rip off, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere.

The Good
• Close to downtown and Coco Bongo (party district)
• Walking distance to public transit
• Clean
• Very compact, no distance to walk anywhere and few stairs
• Swim up bar and bar on beach
• Great spa – service and price
• Decent pool
• We were able to get a day transfer to Oasis Cancun which had a WAY nicer, bigger beach with waves and gorgeous sand, better service and better food however it was a huge party the whole time (during Spring break anyway), very loud and you could only stay from 9-6.

The Bad
• Very, very small
• Restaurants were very limited – Breakfast: 2 Buffets, Lunch: same 2 buffets and 2 a la carte, Dinner: same two buffets and same two a la carte but need reservation – which u had to make before 8 am since they only had 90 reservations with 815 rooms! We only ate dinner 2 nights. Both restaurants served only seafood and sushi (very limiting when one of us is allergic to seafood!). One of our biggest disappointments
• Beach – very small and busy, hard and messy sand, not nice to walk or sit on. Also right next to the marina so very noisy and the buoys were so close you couldn’t get more than waist deep. Island of Woman also blocked all the waves.
• No service around the pool except for the swim up bar and no adult pool,
• Rooms – every day we received 2 towels, no facecloths, no bath mat, no hand towel. No fridge and only one bottle of water a day (if you’re lucky)
• There was an “exclusive” area that had all the hammocks, comfy seating, quite pool and clean bar however we weren’t “allowed” in this area, this was consdered the Grand Oasis but they could use all of the Palms facilities. They also had 2 extra restaurants.
• Very uncomfortable seating – wood or hard white plastic chairs, no backs, nothing comfortable especially at night, very old and worn facilities

Over all we were fairly disappointed and definitely wouldn’t recommend this hotel and won’t be going back. Oasis Cancun we would recommend to young single people looking for a party (don’t bring your kids though!!!)

This was our 2nd time to Mexico and it just didnt compare to Grand Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa that we went to 2 years ago

Room Tip: Book with the Grand Oasis - same resort but nicer rooms and access to exclusive area

The pictures on the internet very misleading not as shown on website. There is no swimming pool for adults as the website says. Other people at the resort all said the same this about it be misleading. Phone cards to call out would not even work. This is not a 4 star resort. Front desk staff very unfriendly/ rude and not helpful at all. No customer service skills. People from the Grand Oasis Palm would come over and steal pool chairs early in the morning and would go to all the restaurants. NO one would be over by their pool at all during the day. They even had a waiter serving them drinks by their pool. We had 3 people that had access to our room (the water guy, desert guy and the cleaning staff). The cleaning person we could understand but no need for the other two. Half the time we never had water left in our room. While we were there we heard of 5 rooms that had their safes broken into and one was ripped right out. There was no winelist in the restaurants as it says online. No one participates in any of the activities. When we checked in we asked if there was internet was told yes. For an extra cost. While we were there we were informed by another couple that internet has been down in the resort for 6 months. So why are they mis-informing people then??? The customers are still buying the internet but it's not even working. Another couple had there room flooded on the 2nd floor while we were there. Both there suitcases were damaged with water. I would NOT recommend this resort to anyone.
