We stayed here for our honeymoon. The hotel is as all Intercontinental hotels are, great. But the one thing that happened that ruined our 1st night was the what I call the sneaky time share guy. As we are checking in, a person whom I thought was the concierge walked over and asked me to come over to his desk when we were done with check in, once at his desk, he slowly but surely started to pitch the great Cozumel time share opportunity. I was very tired from our trip and was in absolutely no mood for a time share pitch.
I am a platinum priority club status person so I know hotels. I basically believe that when you check into an Intercontinental, you should not have to put up with that type of behavior. I will take it on the street from the vendors, but when walk in the door to this type of hotel, you should be able to let your guard down and enjoy.

The rest of the stay was great, good views, great food. They are experiencing construction to the north of the resort, make sure you ask for a room not facing the property to the north, and when the little man approaches at check in, tell him NO GRACIAS.

Room Tip: With construction to the north, get a room on the south end of the property.

Having stayed many times at this resort which is reputed to be the best on the island, I felt that it was about time to write a review. I'll share what we consider to be pros and cons. Of course, what we like and dislike may be the opposite of what you do. My family, especially my wife, like and dislike this property for the following reasons.

PROS:
1) Location: This resort is considerably south of town, but not far enough away that a trip into town becomes an excursion. Basically, town is a 5-10 minute cab ride away depending upon where you are going. Cabs are always readily available, both at the resort and in town. Since it is isolated from other properties the resort has a very private, very exclusive feel to it. Because it is farther south the resort is closer to the better diving locations than most. The convenience to the dive sites lessens the time out of the water, a definite plus.

2) Accessibility to the water: The resort is set well back on the property which makes it closer to the water. There are a great number of rooms that are located within 20 yards of the water, some as close as 5 yards. There is no room in the resort that requires a long trek to reach the boating or snorkeling piers.

3) Atmosphere: This resort is basically, deadly quiet. It is a rare occurrence to find the pool busy. There is seldom any music playing, no organized games, and the pool water is generally too warm to cool off well in. There are also no organized beach activities. Night life at the resort is virtually non-existent, save for an occasional show at the open air, covered main restaurant. If you are looking for a party atmosphere, you're in the wrong place. If you are looking for a place with well-appointed rooms, comfortable lounge chairs for reading or gaming, readily accessible food/drink, and quiet at night you will love it here. While there is a kids club, it is well away from the pools and beach. The adult pool is larger, cooler, and much quieter than the "main" pool, which is typically also a quiet place. We have spent mornings at the adult pool with not even another person showing up. Of course, you will not generally be served there.

4) Internet: All areas of the resort have free internet accessibility. For those of us addicted to internet that is a must.

CONS:
1) Diving: The on-site operator is ScubaDu. They are pricier than many of the independent operators and their boats are large and VERY slow to accommodate a lot of divers at a time. They choose dive sites based upon the expertise of those diving. Since novice divers may be among experienced divers the end result is often inadequate. Also, the "speed" of their boats greatly detracts from the location of the resort being closer to the reefs than most. There is a pretty nice reef right nearby the hotel, but the reefs that the island is known for are still considerably south. My family includes experienced divers only, so we get around the problem this dive operator has by selecting another operator. We usually use Papa Hogs. They pick us up directly at the Presidente pier with all of our equipment pre-fitted and on the boat. They cost less, get to the better dive sites five times as fast, select nicer locations to dock between dives, and since they have small, fast boats are much better able to match the divers expertise.

2) Food: The Italian restaurant at the resort is shamefully expensive. The food is very ordinary, the service is slow, and the temperature is typically uncomfortably cool. The food at the other two restaurants is also overpriced and quite ordinary. Avoid the breakfast buffet and order from the menu. The food is fresher, tastes better, and is less costly. While there is plenty to select from, unless you enjoy paying a lot for a little you are far better off using the hotel's excellent concierge service and arranging to have at least your dinner away from the resort. There are many very exceptional restaurants in Cozumel with far better food, including a few gourmet restaurants with a great deal of selection. Lunch is the least overpriced of the meals here, but do yourself a favor and skip it. Go to town for dinner, eat at a great restaurant and have an extra appetizer and dessert for the same combined price.

3) TV: The satellite TV stations that the resort offers are not close to abundant enough. Also, they have significantly more Spanish speaking stations than English speaking stations, but the clientele is almost all English speaking. They also offered no PPV the last I know. While we don't come to a resort to watch TV, there are times when it is missed.

4) The Beach: While there is plenty of sand on the beach area, there is little adjoining water and the water that does adjoin the beach is far more rocky than sandy.

While we will definitely stay at this resort when we next travel to Cozumel, we are prepared to make the adjustments to enjoy ourselves. For someone that is not prepared in advance, I hope that this information is helpful.

Room Tip: Wing 5 has newer rooms and the ocean views are less obstructed. Do not take a taxi/shuttle from the...

We think that this is one of the best hotels we have experienced because of location, price, food and personal. The greeting on arrival was very freindly and one staff helped with the cases and showed our room and we were very happy. This is one hotel we will be going back to in the next year or two years because we loved it.
I know it is not cheapest hotel in Cozumel but you only live once. stay here.

I have been going to this resort for some 20 + years and the staff is one of the finest in the world! The diving is great, the spa is wonderful (a bit pricey but worth it) and the food is second to none.

Renovated rooms are awesome; some include outdoor showers. Relaxed, relaxed, relaxed!

Room Tip: Beachfront view is priceless!

Our family (including kids and grand parents) arrived for the day in August 2011 via cruise ship and obtained a day pass. This was the second time we have obtained a day pass with them (ie. from our cruise last year as well).
Lucky for us this is low season for them so it felt like we practically had the resort to ourselves.

PROS
Very clean
Friendly and prompt service
Great pool options (adult only and family type pool)
Good snorkeling area for kids right off their beach
Felt safe at the resort
Food was excellent
Quiet resort if you want relaxation

CONS
Hard to fine any cons with this resort other than it would be expensive to fly down and stay here for a week. But then again, many travelers would think it's worth it.

I have been staying at Presidente off and on since 1985. This is the oldest of this hotel chain in Mexico. They have a location which is second to none. Right on the beach. This phrase is over used. But here it deserves it. A nice sandy beach right out your door with snorkeing and a dive shop with its own dock. There is a beach side bar/ restaurant where they will serve you in the water (not pool but ocean). The hotel itself has been updated throughout the years; the latest being after the hurricane a few years back. The outdoor restaurant serves a great buffet breakfast and the Italian restaurant has wonderful fresh seafood (lobster). There are now two pools. Service is excellent. The only drawbacks are that it is still an older property and pricey. I stayed in the same room that I stayed in 20 years ago. It is much nicer with all the amenities now but it cost 3X as much! Such is the price of progress (and inflation).

From the elegant drive through the palm-lined entry way, to the welcome at the front desk, this is clearly the very best in all of Cozumel. There are three kinds of rooms, the tower rooms, (best prices), the pool side rooms (usually facing inside) and the beach front rooms, first or second floors, the most costly. All are lovely. We especially enjoyed our small suite overlooking the lagoon and the main pool as it has an enclosed, private outside shower. This is not a budget hotel but the food is exceptional, though pricey. Breakfast is our favorite and lunch can be reasonable. Dinner in the a/c Alfredo restaurant is expensive, so we usually catch a $4 cab to town, where all the truly wonderful and reasonable restaurants await you. A lobster dinner for $25 is pretty usual. Great scuba service from the hotel, but the Island is pretty well "rode hard and put away wet" as far as beautiful diving is concerned. Too many hurricanes and far too many dive boats every day, have pretty well killed the reefs there. Still, some nice fish to see... You can rent a Jeep at the hotel, and we usually do so for 1-2 days so we can drive to the wild Eastern - Caribbean side of the island to swim and enjoy lunch on the beach. Then back into town for dinner. The Jeep is usually around $50 a day. We have been coming to the Presidente for more than 20 years... tried all the others too... this is the very best.
