We booked this excursion through our ship, the Jewel of the Seas. The $99.00 excursion fee included taxi to the hotel, hands-on instructions for making 2 kinds of margaritas and 7 salsas, light lunch, salsa dancing lessons, time at the resort pool and taxi back to the ship area.
All of the wonderful people involved in providing us with salsaand margarita instruction excursion were exceptionally fun, attentive and efficient. To them, I say "Ole!"
During the salsa portion; however, the lovely breeze was very helpful, but by around 2 pm, it was beginning to get quite warm in the open air area where we were situated. We were there in late February, I can't imagine what it would be like in May! Fortunately, the margaritas were tasty and flowing freely!
We were encouraged to prepare our salsas in pairs, which means one person might not have had the opportunity to prepare anything. To me, it would have been better to provide less salsa ingredients per person, but allow each person to make his/her own salsas. Additionally, my friends and I all agreed that we could have been happy making less salsa and shortening the length of the event.
After we completed the salsa and margarita portion of our adventure, it was time to learn to dance the salsa. My friends stayed to learn to dance the salsa, but I decided to cool off in the resort's beautiful pool.
The pool is very large with plenty of chairs surrounding it. It could have been a great place to relax and cool off. I was at the pool from 2 pm until 3:25 pm and I was surprised to discover a group of approximately 20 elementary to middle school age children frolicking in the pool during the entire tiime I was there. It was kind of like they were on a field trip to the pool. Although they were not misbehaving, they utilized the ENTIRE pool in a way that made it so that I couldn't relax in the pool and read my book.
When my friends finished their salsa lessons, they also were disappointed to see all those kids in the pool for all that time.
If you decide to go on this excursion, you will definitely enjoy the wonderful people of "Salsa, Salsa and Margaritas." However, after you have drunk some margaritas and eaten a very light lunch, don't be fooled into thinking the pool area will be a relaxing time to cool off, read a book and eat lunch.
On the plus side, the taxis were available directly after the lessons, so you could just skip the pool all together!
