“Great Service, Light Lunch, and Disappointing Resort Facilities”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

We booked this excursion through our ship, the Jewel of the Seas. The $99.00 excursion fee included taxi to the hotel, hands-on instructions for making 2 kinds of margaritas and 7 salsas, light lunch, salsa dancing lessons, time at the resort pool and taxi back to the ship area.

All of the wonderful people involved in providing us with salsaand margarita instruction excursion were exceptionally fun, attentive and efficient. To them, I say "Ole!"

During the salsa portion; however, the lovely breeze was very helpful, but by around 2 pm, it was beginning to get quite warm in the open air area where we were situated. We were there in late February, I can't imagine what it would be like in May! Fortunately, the margaritas were tasty and flowing freely!

We were encouraged to prepare our salsas in pairs, which means one person might not have had the opportunity to prepare anything. To me, it would have been better to provide less salsa ingredients per person, but allow each person to make his/her own salsas. Additionally, my friends and I all agreed that we could have been happy making less salsa and shortening the length of the event.

After we completed the salsa and margarita portion of our adventure, it was time to learn to dance the salsa. My friends stayed to learn to dance the salsa, but I decided to cool off in the resort's beautiful pool.

The pool is very large with plenty of chairs surrounding it. It could have been a great place to relax and cool off. I was at the pool from 2 pm until 3:25 pm and I was surprised to discover a group of approximately 20 elementary to middle school age children frolicking in the pool during the entire tiime I was there. It was kind of like they were on a field trip to the pool. Although they were not misbehaving, they utilized the ENTIRE pool in a way that made it so that I couldn't relax in the pool and read my book.

When my friends finished their salsa lessons, they also were disappointed to see all those kids in the pool for all that time.

If you decide to go on this excursion, you will definitely enjoy the wonderful people of "Salsa, Salsa and Margaritas." However, after you have drunk some margaritas and eaten a very light lunch, don't be fooled into thinking the pool area will be a relaxing time to cool off, read a book and eat lunch.

On the plus side, the taxis were available directly after the lessons, so you could just skip the pool all together!

Hi Royal Caribbean cruiser! The Dancing Chefs and the rest of the team thank you for your extensive review. You learned to make 7 salsas and sampled them with quesadillas, taquitos and tortilla chips, while sipping yummy margaritas. The hotel facilities (pool and beach) are open to guests from the hotel and locals. It depends on the time of year if the pool is busy or not. Thank you again for your enthusiasm and hope to see you again soon!

“An Excellent "Not to Be Missed" Excursion”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

We throughly enjoyed our 2/28/12 Salsa and Salsa experience at the Hotel Cozumel. The instructors were entertaining, knowledgeable and worked hard to insure that everyone was enjoying themselves. Where else can you have a great time, learn some salsa moves and how to make, from scratch, 7 salsas and 2 margaritas styles. Those that don't consume alcohol should not shy away from this excursion as they are prepared to show you how to make non-alcoholic drinks and provide non-alcoholic refreshments without making you feel bad about your decision. This is a "must do" excursion located in a beautiful 2nd story room overlooking an awesome view of the ocean.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

Just did the Salsa and Salsa in Cozumel last week. While the food and drinks were tasty and fun, the atmosphere was horrible. We were stuck in a hotel conference room with no windows on a gorgeous day. The room was very full with over a hundred people, so it was very loud, especially with an extremely loud microphone. The organizers also managed to spend way too much of our time on the island waiting for them to get the program going. Lots of hurry up and wait. The pictures on this site did not at all reflect our experience. Very disappointing, and then not much time left for other activities on the island.

Thank you for your candid comments. Your opinion is very important to us and we will take all your suggestions into consideration to improve the Salsa and Salsa tour. We have recently had some spring storms coming over the island, with a consequent power cut. You might have attended that show. Thank you for joining us. Greetings from the Dancing Chefs

“Was in a room with no windows!”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

When we looked at prior pics of the activity, it looked like it was outside. When we did the class, it was in a big conference room with no windows. That put a big buzz kill on the class.

Hi Harvey! Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. Salsa and Salsa takes place on a covered deck with a view on the Caribbean. But Cozumel has a beautiful warm tropical climate, which includes many rain storms between March and October (rainy season). We occasionally do the Salsa and Salsa show inside the hotel, when we know that heavy rains are approaching the island. In this way you can enjoy the Salsa and Salsa experience without being distracted by wind and rain..... :) The Dancing Chef instructors get everybody involved and before you know it.... you'll be shouting Olé!!! “Salsa and Salsa - Fun and Fun!”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

This was an awesome excursion. Enjoyed learning how to make and try 7 different salsas, 2 different types of margaritas and then learned to salsa dance. While making and eating the salsa, our margarita glasses where never empty. My only regret is that I didn't find out what kind of chips they served and how to make them. Our chefs/dance instructors, Amanda and Carla, were awesome! We had a fabulous time!

Hi Joy! Thank you for your double-FUN rating. We're glad we could teach you the fun ins and outs of Salsa making and Salsa dancing. The tortilla chips that are served throughout the tour, are made of fried corn tortillas. For more information on recipes, subscribe to our monthly newsletter or send us an email. Happy Cooking!!!
