This review is way overdue since we visited last year. We had a wonderful experience here. The service was exceptional and friendly. We enjoyed the breakfast tremendously. The room was gorgeous and the views from the balcony was phenomenal. The staff members were helpful and friendly. They were more than happy to provide us with breakfast in our room sincw we had an early flight to catch. We came back feeling relaxed and pampered.

We stayed at VR for a week in January 2012 and we absolutely adored it. It is very very nice , clean, luxurious, well appointed and the attention to detail is fabulous. It starts when they pick you up with their yacht in Cancun. You start to see what a treat you are in for. The staff were kind and genuine and really catered to the guests needs. They were very accomodating and had good ideas. It was such a great resort. The food was great, the pool/beach bar/snax were killer and reasonable. The rooms were absolutely fabulous! Views to die for! Truly- this place is a tranquil gem. In all the 25 or so years we have travelled, we have never stayed anywhere better! Recommendations: dinner on the VR private beach was so romantic delicious, and beautiful. Other ideas- rent a moped and see Isla - its beautiful, quaint! Take a dive with Carey dive shop- excellent PADI dive shop. Enjoy some of the great bars and restaurants in town as well. ( la terazza has live music, Olivias, Lola, Qubana -all super yummy!!! Soggy peso- amazing margaritas and a step back in palapa time) Highly highly recommend VR ! We'll go back for sure. We absolutely loved it!

As an extensively traveler around the World, Hotel Villa Rolandi ranks for me as one of my top world class favorite small luxury hotels because of four reasons: 1. outstanding location, given its guests the sensation of a private island, 2. Casual luxury rooms with beautiful views of the sunrise and sunset, 3. excellent service and cordiality from its staff, and 4. a cuisine that deserves at least one Michelin stars.

My wife and I have traveled extensively to 5 continents, visiting city hotels and resorts alike. Villa Rolandi ranks among the top in the world for service, cuisine, and overall enjoyment. We chose to spend our honeymoon at Villa Rolandi after researching other destinations in the Caribbean, Latin America, and Playa del Carmen (MX). We chose Villa Rolandi, because it was convenient to reach (6 hours total travel time door to door via Cancun) and because it received great reviews. Our actual experience exceeded expectations: transportation was flawless to and from the hotel, which makes the experience stress free; the service and cuisine was absolutely top notch, some of the best we've ever experienced anywhere; the rooms and grounds are beautiful; and we made new friends with other guests -- always a nice experience. We resoundingly recommend Villa Rolandi for anyone interested in achieving pure relaxation and enjoying casual elegance.

Great small luxory. Great hotel. Small, simple, nice people. Not everything works all the time, you are on a small island after all, but whatever you want someone on the incredibly courteous and helpful staff will fix/ get/ make. It is not a place for night life. Just a perfect small beach, margaritas under palm trees. Great Italian food at night. If you need/ want 4 Seasons and city this is the wrong place. But for a perfect quiet getaway...

My boyfriend and I stayed in room 209 from January 3rd to January 8th, 2012. We reserved a junior suite, but 209 may have been a master (it has a living room, see photo). Our goals for the trip were just to relax and get some much-needed rest, which was what we found at Rolandi.

The room was beautiful, we had a wide open view of the ocean and we loved that the sliding doors opened all the way, so we got a nice breeze. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was large and very clean. And, as many others have said, breakfast was amazing.

We researched Isla pretty extensively before going (this was our first trip) and I looked in to a lot of the other hotels, we had a reservation at Privilege Aluxe until about a week before we left, but we found a great deal at Rolandi and switched. I am SO glad we did. We visited Aluxe and thought it was fine, but not great, and was not a great area. It's in the busiest part of town, and most of the rooms look out over the town, which is not all that pretty. Their slice of North Beach does look like one of the nicer areas, but its still very crowded and littered and there are tons of vendors.

After seeing all of this, we were even more happy to have chosen Rolandi. The beach there is small, but its quiet and clean and you can sit right next to the water or under a nice palm tree. Also, the pool and beach waiters - Sergio and Ariel - were delightful. All of the staff at Rolandi strikes the right balance between attentiveness and leaving you alone. The location is nice as well, off the beaten path but accessible by taxi or golf cart.

I would not stay anywhere else on the island. It is well worth it to spend the money on Rolandi.

A few other notes - you MUST go to Minninos while you're on the island. It's amazing. Also, stop for a drink at La Villa Bella near Punta Sur, they have amazing pina coladas! A few doors down from Rolandi is a really beautiful beach club called Zama (take a right and walk about 5-7 minutes), this is a nice place for lunch or an afternoon beer, wear a sun dress / polo shirt.

My husband and I recently stayed at Villa Rolandi for 5 nights. It is rated #1 on Isla and after exploring the island we definitely agree that it is the nicest hotel there. We enjoyed it and would go back.

The hotel picks you up in their private yacht called "Cocoon". This is an amazing perk and it was very easy. The boat drops you right in front of the hotel and staff was there to greet us. It is in a nice area of this lovely little island.

Food: Breakfast was included in our room rate. It was excellent! Comes with juice, coffee, pastries, fruit, french toast, and you can order an egg dish from the menu. Our favorite was the "Mexican style eggs" but everything was great. We ate lunch at the beach a couple of the days we were there. It was also good and there was a big selection (the sandwiches are huge- can definitely share). We also ate dinner at the hotel 2 nights and it was good, although a bit pricey compared with other restaurants on the island. We rented a golf cart during our stay and I would highly recommend this. The restaurants in El Centro are excellent and very reasonable priced. Cab rides will add up so it is worth it to have a cart.

Room: It was nice and the view was beautiful. All the rooms face the ocean and there is nothing like waking up to the Carribean. We had a jacuzzi on our balcony and wanted to go in it a couple of the evenings but it never got warm enough. We called the front desk and they sent someone up immediately to help but it was not fixed (and half of the jets didn't turn on). It was kind of "lukewarm" the whole time so that was a bit of a disappointment. We also found our bed to be uncomfortable. We had a "king" bed but it was really 2 twin mattresses together. I could feel the crack between them when I rolled over and my husband's feet hung off the edge (because twin beds are shorter than king). He is 6'2" but this doesn't normally happen in king beds. We really enjoyed the steam shower. It felt like we had a spa right in our room! The shower itself is huge and has double shower heads too.

Beach: It was lovely and very peaceful. Yes, it is a bit small but so is the hotel (so it doesn't feel crowded). We did explore other beaches on the island but you can't beat the serene atmosphere at Rolandi's beach (along with the friendly staff to help you). We also borrowed a kayak and enjoyed paddling around the shore.

Service: Excellent! Everyone was very friendly and informative about the island. Everything was done quickly and with a smile. The staff really makes this hotel 5 star.

Spa: The "Thalasso" treatment was included with our room as well. It was 1 hour of water therapy. Mine was a scrub with a massage. The therapist was good but the table was not set up appropriately. There was no cradle for my head when laying on my stomach so it was not comfortable to have to turn my neck to the side. My feel were also not propped so it strained my knees a bit. The actual therapy was good but they need to handle the table situation to make it better.

Overall the trip was wonderful. I was honest about a couple of issues, which is why I gave this hotel 4 stars instead of 5. If they fixed those things I would call this hotel perfect! The island itself is fabulous. It has a great vibe and feels very safe.
