“A week of paradise”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

We just returned from the Palace on Isla Mujeres. I cannot say enough great things about this resort. The staff are fabulous. They are friendly, efficient, fun, and extremely helpful. Hats off to Rosa, Leo, Antonio, Jose, Edy...to name just a few. The food was absolutely delightful. It is a quiet resort, away from the hot hustle and bustle of the north beach and town. We got to know the other guests and all played volleyball and games together when we wanted the companionship. When we wanted a little bit more excitement, we rented golf carts and went into town and toured the island. The staff set up snorkeling, scuba, and boat excursions. The spa there was great. Loved the Palace! Just an FYI. Some previous reviews complained about the noise from next door. We were in a room closest to that side. There was an event going on every night, but the noise was not annoying at all. The music was often great to listen to IF we were sitting on the balcony. If we were in the air conditioned room, lying on the most comfortable bed ever, we never even heard it. And they always stopped by about 10:10 every night. I found the noise and the heat of the north beach much more unpleasant than our next door neighbors. The staff absolutely made this the most enjoyable place ever.

Room Tip: We had an ocean view and my friends had a pool view. Both great!

This was our second trip to Isla Mujeres in 8 months, and we enjoyed it every bit as much as we did the first trip. The staff makes the place!!!! They know us by our first names and treat us like royalty. We like the fact that it is not so heavily populated and so close to town. It is truly relaxing!!! Our thanks to DARIO, ULISES,and NO WAY JOSË at the front desk. And then there are many thanks to..ROSA, CRISTIÁN, DANIEL, WILMA, JOSË LUIS, DARIO, EDY, MATEO, JESÚS, and others that I am now forgetting. THEY ARE SO GREAT!!!!
We are planning another trip over Easter. We love the slower pace and client friendly Isla Mujeres Palace!!
THANK YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL SERVICE!!!!!

My husband and I were looking for a quiet and uncomplicated location for our annual vacation. We definitely found it at the Isla Mujeres Palace!

No complaints whatsoever.

Food - Delicious.

Rooms - Beautiful, and very clean.

Pool and Beach - Felt that we had each, all to ourselves...

Entertainment - Very low key, but enjoyable!

Service - Exceptional!

I would like to acknowledge some of the terrific employees: Edy, Christian, Jesus, Dario, Jose Luis, Ulises, Rosa, Arturo, and Oscar.

We would not hesitate to return to this resort.

I would strongly suggest a golf cart rental to tour the island. Also, don't miss the Turtle Farm, which is within walking distance of the resort.

Enjoy!

Been traveling so catching up on reviews...stayed at the Isla Palace from Dec. 11-19, 2011.

We are Palace Premier/RCI members. Have been going to Mexico at least yearly for 12 years. We have stayed at Moon Palace four times and last time (Christmas with the grownup kids) there were just too many people at Moon. So since we were at Isla last Spring (another resort} with our Harley friends we thought we would try the Palace for just the two of us. We found Isla Mujeres to be less (everything is relative) of a Mexican tourisist trap than many places.

The taxi and ferry trip were all taken care of seamlessly through our membership. We also received the $1500 resort credit promotion. Our expectations were the great Palace service, good food, nice room, quiet time on the beach reading, pool (billiards) around the bar...and according to some tripadvisor reviews...some kind of party going on next door. By-the-way we are "old" (married 41 years) but love to party to current music (e.g. Gaga, Katy Perry).

The first thing we did was use part of the resort credit to upgrade our room to ocean view. We were concerned if one would be available because you are not allowed to book it in advance with the resort credit. We were assured by the reservation call center that getting an ocean view room would not be a problem. The same person who told us that "it was a nice pool with towels" when we asked if the pool table had good cues or should we bring our our?
It's a language thing I guess...welcome to Mexico.

We later found out, from talking to the staff, that there is not a problem getting a room because the resort (only 62 rooms...compared to thousands at Moon) is rarely over half full. It was about one third full during our 10 days there...Soooo what does that mean? We walked into the dinning area, which probably seats a hundred people plus, and we were the only people there a couple times. Rarely did we see more than a dozen couples for the meal.
We often felt like we had rented a huge home with staff...sort of strange.

The good and bad of size. The good; The staff was very attentive...usually. Rosa often meet us with our names and a wonderful smile as she let us pick our table. Other staff members would take our plates to our table as soon as we filled them at the buffet line. Water glasses were always filled, dirty plates removed, etc. The bad; very limited selection of food. Yes the food was good BUT with few customers they must limit the selection.

The beach; nice beach but the North beach at Isla is nicer...with more people. We enjoyed sitting on the beach watching the Pelicans fish in the shallow water. We were often the only couple on the beach for hours at a time. Never saw more than three couple on the beach during our stay. Here we ran into another strange size thing. We enjoy our cocktails on the beach and will stay put reading for hours. Only a couple times during our beach stay were we asked if we wanted a drink. Instead we would walk up toward the bar were we would see two or three staff talking...one person would always run out and meet us half way and bring our cocktail back to our seats. They were always very polite but I think a little bored.

Noise next door; Day trippers from Cancun come and go next door. The Isla Palace, as part of their activity nights, has an arrangement to go next door one night. We enjoy a party so we tried it along with about a dozen or more other Palace people. There is a large (guessing 150) folded chairs on the beach area with a stage. The stage has large speaker banks (for the middle of nowhere). Palace arranged their staff to bring you their drinks. Their staff was very nice and kept the drinks coming but they were THEIR drinks and my wife and I stopped after a couple. The show was very lively fast paced Mexican dancing and entertainment (audience participation..people chosen by MC to come on stage). Some fun but got old after a while with the bad drinks. Way over half the audience was Mexican so the MC goes back and forth between Mexican and English. So this is the noise you hear at night from your Isla Palace room. We heard it about five nights during our stay. Most nights we slept through it but I did wake up twice between one and two AM to the pounding subwoofer and the MC screaming in Mexican to generate "excitement".

Isla stuff; renting golf carts is fun, used resort credits for the boat trip around the lee side of the island (fun seeing the homes from the water), diving to check out the sunken sculpture garden, many other guests we talked to loved the turtles and the dolphin experiences. The meal on the beach was nice ($300 credit) but I would have been upset paying $200 "real money" for it.

Spa; not much to say the least. Had a great free massage (premier perk) so decided to use part of our credits for a 90 minute session. Requested the same masseuse that gave us the great massage. We were told that the staff varies and due to the small demand on Isla they didn't know when she would be back. The staff seems to go back and forth to the mainland. So we booked it anyway...bottomline...one of the worst massages my wife and I have ever had (same masseuse different times)...felt like beaten meat. PS other guess had good experiences.

Finally; Boy this is one long review! Our last night my wife and I hung out at the resort's bar to play some pool. There were two other couples there for about an hour but by 9:30 we were alone with Dario the bartender (the bartender was different almost every night but this was the second night in a row for Dario). We asked if we could bring our music (portable Boise with iPod) to listen to while we played pool. He said fine...we kept the volume down to a level that we could hear the music next door over it. We asked Dario when he needed to close the bar. He told us that the bar was open as long as we wanted...WOW. For the next two hours Dario always was right there to get me a fresh cold glass for my beer and several shots of their best tequila (Don Julio kept in the freezer). He always had a great feel good smile on his face and even danced around a little to our music. We always tip the staff at the all inclusive resorts for good service...that night we gave Dario a $50 dollar bill when we left and felt we were being cheap for his service. He left a smile on our faces :)

This evening we did not receive what we were expecting ... This was not a romantic dinner on the beach ... This was a Romantic Dinner on The Beach EXPERIENCE! :) I don't think any two movie stars could have have a more picturesque experience. One table set with the finest table cloths, finest china, and finest crystal. One Captain, One Waiter, and One Assistant ... all for our One Table, and one candle, and one tiki torch, ten feet from the Mar Caribe, with the stars overhead! :) Every course impeccably prepared, presented, and served. Nothing rushed, everything on time, cold things cold, hot things hot, and no need for any thought of a condiment. The Prince or the President couldn't have possibly felt any more special. Isla Mujeres has always been amazing ... but this evening ... they surpassed every expectation that my wife and I have ever thought could actually become reality in regards to service, taste, kindness, and attentiveness. Palace Resorts truly are an experience not to be missed! :)

We are actually staying at the Moon Palace, but came here on one of the excursions. The staff is quite pleasant, a nice sandy beach, a nice pool area to relax, and a bathroom off the pool with a shower, which is handy. The ocean along here was not very inviting, though the beach was nice. It is worth it to pay $7 for a taxi to take you to North Beach where the water is nicer and if you are looking for more interesting things going on. The hotel was really quiet while we were there - maybe a dozen other guests walking around. It could be the season (January), or guests are doing other things. Probably a nice place if you are looking for an intimate get-away.

Room Tip: We didn't actually stay in a room - only used the pool and restaurant (buffet).

We stayed at the resort in late September 2011 (sorry for the delay in review), and can not say enough about the incredible staff, service and beautiful resort. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing and low key vaction as a couple this is the place. This is a small resort, and not anything like the hustle and bustle of main land Cancun. There is always a place to sit at the beach or the pool (no matter if you want shade or sun), and no activity director shouting at you to participate in activities. Enjoy the room service for breakfast (huevos rancheros to die for) and long dinners on the patio. We loved the staff and they could not do enough for us, we were truly treated like royalty!

The employees at the resort went out of there way to take care of us when a family emergency occured back home. It was late in the day in the middle of our honeymoon and the staff got us in contact with the airline to fly back home, and booked us a room at the Cancun Palace with out charge so we could take a flight home right away in the morning). We can not thank them enough for their kindness in our time of need!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the ocean view room, beautiful view of the sunset.
