“A Gem in Merida”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

Looking for a wonderful place to stay in Merida. Los Arcos is a no brainer. Beautiful B&B, David is a great host and has great insight into the city, things to do, interested in your points of interest and fabulous recommendations. The way the B&B is designed gives you privacy and a central social area for getting to know other guests. Breakfast was great and service by Lucas is so genuine. You really feel like it is a home away from home. My wife and I always stay at B&Bs when travel for pleasure so we know how to compare. Los Arcos is also located close to city central so easy access to central.

We were thrilled to stay at Los Arcos at last, having had to postpone our holiday from two years ago. It was everything that we expected and more. David and Lucas were most kind and thoughtful, with the accommodation and breakfasts everything that we could have wanted. We were treated like family, with David and Lucas advising and making suggestions about our itinerary. I would highly recommend Los Arcos to anyone who would want the comforts of home in a most informal setting. It's location is excellent for walking to the main square (Zocalo), and Merida is a most safe city for strolling around, even late into the evening. A truly wonderful experience. Room Tip: The garden suites are of high quality as well as the suite in the main house. I would recommend any...

We arrived in Merida on New Year’s Eve day, just in time for our fantastic host, David Reed, to take us up to the rooftop terrace to watch the midnight fireworks. We had made very late reservations and though both casitas were booked, David offered to allow us to stay in his non-advertised second floor space overlooking the pool and lush garden. The space is a gorgeous bedroom, separate sitting room and an enormous bathroom, the latter the size of a New York City studio. We were very lucky that David allowed us to stay in the suite for all two weeks we were there. The level of luxury certainly outweighs anything to be found anywhere in the city. From the bathroom you have access to the private terrace and the rooftop terrace: the terrace perfect for sunbathing, the rooftop perfect for sunsets and drinks. With the palm trees outside the windows, the collection of books, the quiet of the city, you will never want to leave this space David has created.

Breakfasts were another thing. The food was absolutely delicious, filing and very local, and over a period of two weeks we never had the same thing twice. We enjoyed Davd’s company at breakfast hearing of his fascinating past and how he amassed his amazing collection of antique reliquaries, religious iconography, furniture and folk art. Not to mention his second floor studio collection of his own paintings.

Los Arcos is walking distance to everything, including David’s excellent restaurant recommendations of which we returned to several repeatedly (Chaya Maya, anybody?). You are right in the historical center of the city with its colonial architecture, regional cuisine, artisan shops and local museums, but you feel like you are on an island far from it all.

Room Tip: Ask for the second floor suite, not advertised.

My friend and I stayed at Los Arcos in late January/early February of 2012. We couldn't have been happier with what we encountered. Our host and owner, David, was the epitome of a good host. He seemed genuinely interested and always was a step ahead, thinking of the details and offering options to make our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. He was always available with suggestions of places to see, where to dine, etc. (Be sure to check out all the amazing art and cultural events in Merida such as those in the museums and government buildings on the main plaza. The main plaza is also always lovely in the evening. Merida is a progressive, yet safe and provincial city.) Back to Los Arcos-the full breakfasts were prepared with care and always designed to meet our preferences, and we had the option of dining in or outdoors. The room was charming and I always felt safe at Los Arcos. David made us feel like house guests. His 3 little loving canine amigos and 2 lazy feline amigos were sweet and adorable and never in the way. We stayed a total of a week, divided in the middle by a stay at the beach for a week and we felt like we were coming back home when we returned to Los Arcos and David. We now have a friend in Merida!

We had an amazing time at Los Arcos. My fiancé and I had the privilege of celebrating our engagement there in February 2012
We were amazed the minute we walked through the door. The artwork, attention to detail throughout the house, and the warm welcome from Isabella, Nina and Maya the small, friendly well behaved house dogs was gratefully acknowledged. Our host and owner of the Bed and breakfast, David, graciously welcomed us and gave us the comfort of home. He provided us with lots of local information and was prepared to help us in this area as much we needed. His suggestions were spot on for what we were looking for.
We need also to mention Lucas, the chef. His breakfasts were indescribable and his personality was also welcoming and courteous making sure that we were happy and my fiancé being a vegetarian was completely accommodated.
We hope to celebrate our honeymoon staying at David’s home.
Don’t even hesitate if you are thinking about staying at Los Arcos. This is the place to stay.
Steve and Kara, Ottawa

We spent 2 weeks at Los Arcos and were treated like house guests. The breakfasts were amazing, the location superb, and David was the quintessential host. The rooms as charming as the main house is grand. We would not hesitate to return.
