“Great location - very enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012 via mobile

We stayed at Hacienda Merida for just one night. The location is superbe, just a few blocks away from all major sites and in the heart of the historic center. Rooms are quite spacious, classically decorated. In the common area there is a small pool and a few tables and chaises longue creating a very aesthetic feel. The staff was friendly.

We stayed in Hacienda Merida with 2 young children ( ages 7 and 5 at the time) in april 2010, while travelling through the area.
Merida is a beautifull city especially in the weekends when local people dance in the streets.
The hotel is beautifull , friendly people, excellent facilities and quiet surroundings. We were the only guests so our children had the pool to themselves.
Everybody enjoyed the stay and the breakfast was excellent.Asking 2 years later what the children liked most about Mexico the answer was Hacienda Merida !

The first shock upon arriving at the Hotel Hacienda Merida is just how plain and bland the front of the hotel is. Your heart sinks as you prepare for similar inside and you tell yourself “it’s only for a few nights”. Step through the front door and you receive the second shock. It’s gorgeous. A blend of French and Moroccan design. Rooms set around a peaceful courtyard with inviting in ground pool. Sit in the bar overlooking the pool and sip cocktails with a warm afternoon breeze wafting through before heading out to dinner. The best restaurants and town square are within walking distance. The owner and staff are relaxed and relaxing; helpful and with a friendless that comes from the owner and permeates through the staff. We had large rooms. They are simple but lack nothing.

First off, the owner, who was French Moroccan, I believe, was very friendly and gave us lots of advice on where to go, eat, and shop. He imbued his hacienda with a European flair, and somewhat humorously decorated with his own father's paintings (he's not a professional artist!). This personal touch, along with the gracious pool, made the hotel quite welcoming. He also served a fantastic breakfast - certainly one of the best meals we had in Merida.

The only downsides to the hotel were: (a) being on Calle 62 - which is pretty dreary and not a pleasant street to walk on, (b) relatively small rooms (with unusually large bathrooms), and (c) little privacy, as the room doors are simply windowed patio doors that open into the courtyard (only a curtain shields you from people walking by). I believe we paid about $150/night for three nights, and it felt a bit expensive, but we learned that Mexico really isn't about getting great deals, strangely enough.

All in all, it's a nice place. I can't compare it to other hotels, but if you're looking for a quiet and clean place, this will work well. If you're looking to be in the middle of the nightlife or on a more scenic street (of which there are very few in Merida, unfortunately), I'd consider looking at other options.

Room Tip: It's quite easy to look right into the rooms, which have windowed doors. I'd highly recomme...

Hacienda Merida's bit is, at core, very straightforward: a tasteful makeover of an old central Merida home; extremely pleasant and eager-to-help staff; six comfortable rooms; a quiet and, during our March stay, nicely breezy courtyard/pool area with both shade and sun; breakfast and good coffee to start the day and a well-stocked bar for cocktail hour. The action -- ruins and cenotes, museums and markets, nightlife and restaurants -- is elsewhere, and that's just fine. The sites are close enough, and we loved having a quiet, cool, friendly place to retreat.

I stayed in a standard room for 4 nights and loved my stay. The space feels very private as if you're a guest in a luxury home and not a hotel. The space is beautiful, quiet and relaxing, just what you need after pounding the pavement all day. The staff was friendly and helpful and they serve the best coffee in Merida!

From the gorgeous hacienda style architecture to the quiet but convenient location to the friendly, knowledgable staff, this hotel is one of nicest, most relaxing places we've ever been lucky enough to stay in. Visit Merida to experience the rich history and culture of the Yucatan, but come to experience this hotel as well.
