Spent 5 days in mid April with my family (all adults, no kids). My husband and I had visited in 2010, and so happy to say, the hotel, service, overall experience continues to be 5 star! Here’s some highlights:
Service- Excellent, Asian luxury in Mexico. I was worried when I read some of the reviews of service degradation when there are big groups staying there; there was a company having an offsite when during our stay, but service still was right on, we never had to ask twice for anything. I would highly recommend making all your bookings in advance however with the online concierge (Michelle was very patient with my daily emails!). Airport transportation via the SUV is very luxurious and relaxing, worth the extra money.
Food- We eat at Saffron (best Thai food still I have had outside of Asia), Sands (lunch and dinner; the carbon grill is a must do for dinner) and of course Oriente breakfast. We also did room service several times, not only in the room, but also on the terrace by the lobby on a beautiful night. They have live music some nights and a cigar roller in the lobby which was only made better by being able to order anything off the room service menu right there. We were not inclined to try Tamarind again as it was quite disappointing last time and over priced for the quality. One night we did head out to Rosewood, truly beautiful as well and tried their Tequila bar and Poolside Mexican restaurant; would highly recommend it as you get to see the other resort without leaving Mayakoba.
Activities- So much to do! Spa- no brainer, have to do it. Request a Thai or Balinese masseuse for a massage- just like Four Seasons Bali! The resort was at 100% capacity, so the pools were busy, but not that crazy where you could not find a spot. The beach set up has improved tremendously since our last trip, where all the chairs were aligned facing the sun rather than the ocean. There were always plenty of seats and umbrellas, especially near the beach villas. It was a little windy, but with 85 degrees and sunny weather, a little breeze was welcome. Lagoon tour a must- definitely book that in advance. We missed our booked tour as we did not realize the boat departs from Saffron not the lobby dock. I spoke with the front desk, who after some haggling booked us a private tour the next day. We also did wave runners, called the tour office in the lobby, and within an hr, the wave runners were at the beach. Not a bad price point too- $70 for 30 minutes.
Villa- Our last stay was in an incredible Courtyard Villa. This time with 5 adults, we stayed in a 3 bedroom townhouse. Without a doubt, great value for $, as the 3 bedroom beachfront villas are nearly 3 times the price. The rooftop pool, though not heated was warm enough for day use. We honestly didn’t spend much time there as there was always so much to do elsewhere in the resort. The only negative feedback I had- the second and third bedrooms are not quite suited for a couple. very comfy beds, but much smaller than what I would have expected, bathroom especially. They are perfect for families with kids or even teenagers, but if your party has more than one adult couple it could get tight. The master bedroom was beautiful and very spacious. Again not as over the top as the courtyard villa bedroom, but very luxurious. Our villa# was 620, and a quick 5 minute walk to the lobby. The best townhouses are the ones that have little walk out decks from the master that lead onto the lagoon…our villa patio opened up to very thick vegetation, pretty, but not as cool as being able to walk right onto the edge of the lagoon.

All in all, an amazing, relaxing getaway, so easy to access from the east coast, for both couple and families.

Room Tip: The best townhouses are the ones that have little walk out decks from the master that lead onto the...

We stayed at this property for a week in April with our two boys (5yrs old and 5 month old). The stay was excellent on every level. The property is absolutely beautiful. The staff was attentive but not overbearing. The place is kid friendly without being kid oriented.
We really enjoyed the food and the in-villa dining was a great option for a family with kids and is probably some of the best room service we ever had.
Having a private pool and jacuzzi was also great.

The beach club was very good but ocean was choppy the whole time we were.

One thing where we feel we made a mistake was in not renting our own car from Cancun airport. Given that we were traveling with two kids we weren't sure if we wanted to deal with the hassle, but the drive from airport was very straight forward and without the car we ended up relying on Maritur too much for excursions out of the hotel which cost up 3 times more than they should have.

Overall great experience and we cannot wait to come back both with kids and without.

We stayed here recently and we thought the place was AMAZING! The rooms are spacious, your private pool is GREAT and the outdoor tub when all of the candles are lit is very romantic. I definitely recommand getting a Thai massage - it was the BEST massage/ spa treatment I have ever experienced.

We recently spent 4 days at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our experience began with an air conditioned SUV with a courteous driver who provider cool, scented refreshing towels. The driver was warm and attentive during the 40 minute drive to Mayakoba.

Our check in process, began at the open and breezy lobby with a refreshing welcome drink and was seamless. Since our room was not yet ready, we were ushered to the Sands/Beach Club for a late lunch and drinks.

Following our first meal, we were driven to our lovely and private abode room 206, which was quite lovely and secluded. Our villa, 206, was the highlight of our stay and was so beautiful and inviting that we rarely visited the beach or the common pools like Reflections.

Each day began with a scrumptious breakfast at the Oriente which offered fresh made to order omelets as well as specialties for the day. Servers like Cesar, Manuel, and Fernando were quite attentive and courteous.

Dining at the BT Mayakoba was a wonderful experience. We dined at the Sands, Saffron, Tamarind as well as in-villa dining but must say that the Tamarind was the best and certainly beat the Punta Bonita at the Rosewood. The tequila tasting at the Tamarind with Erik was informative, fun and quite enjoyable.

Our afternoons were highlighted by phenomenal spa treatments. We did venture to the Rosewood Sense Spa one afternoon and that was a mistake that will not be repeated. While the Rosewood Sense Spa does have very beautiful common facilities, the spa room and most importantly the spa treatments and therapists were significantly better at the BT Mayakoba. Aim and Chandra were world class therapists.

Evenings were capped with a relaxing bath in an outdoor tub overlooking the stars and crescent moon.

All in all, service, accommodations, facilities, spa, dining, was absolutely wonderful.

We graciously accepted the farewell gift of the handmade turtle and requested an additional one so that we both can be sure to return.

This was definitely the most beautiful and unique property I have ever been too that allows children. My husband and I had our honey moon at Bedara Island in Australia, and this very much reminded me of that property. Yet, they had facilities for my kids! Hooray! Definitely spring for one of the villas with its own, private pool. We barely left our villa because we were all having so much fun swimming and enjoying the private hideaway.
