I loved everything about this resort. The customer service is amazing. It seems like everybody love their jobs: room attendants, waitresses/waiters, front desk attendants, entertainment personnel, etc.

It is a beautiful resort, with a private beach, with breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks all included, for an affordable price.

I'm looking forward to going back next year. There's no need to look for another place to stay in Playa del Carmen.

We are an active couple with a young teenage son and LOVE a beach vacation every few months. This is a review based on that perspective . We absolutely loved our vacation overall and we had an amazing time! The resort is extremely clean, well manicured, has a tropical feel, the entire staff is really great ..cleaning crew, bartenders, waiters,...everyone was truly helpful and nice and pleasant ,and working so hard.
The animation team guys are great ! Alejandro, Augustin, Fernando, Roberto, and Mario are awesome and were so friendly and helpful with the kids and with activities ..
What I wish I knew before coming:
- the organized activities end at 5pm. Until my child made friends at the resort, he was bored and frustrated that he had nothing to do. We have never stayed at am all inclusive resort that had no activities after 5. There is a nightly show at the theater but the kids would rather play or be engaged.
- there are no lights on the bball court at all.
-there are lights on tennis courts. You have to ask for them to be turned on.
-the ping pong table is on the pool deck and isn't accessible after 6pm and during the day it's usually too windy to play anyway. It should be moved to the game room area with the billiards table to avoid the wind and so that people can play at night.
- seaweed Is still very prevalent here!! Not as bad as it was a few years ago..but definitely still there..in the water and on the sand. Some days were worse than others..early morning water was usually very clear. But this is not the type of beach environment we like .
- the sand is extremely deep/dense and makes it very difficult to walk . We like long beach walks along the water and could not do this comfortably .
These issues are no fault of the resort, however I wish I would have known prior to booking. The resort on its own is great and I would definitely return again!

Loved this resort! We loved everything about this place . The staff is #1 , the food is all good, the beds are very comfortable. For couples traveling with children, there is an excellent kids club, I've had the pleasure of observing the kids with "Gretchen" and they all love her, she takes care of them like they where her kids. I really recommend this resort!! They offer Wi-Fi for 45$ US for the week for 2 devices, great reception everywhere on the resort, even on the beach . If you want to reserve the à la carte restaurants, go early in the morning(8h30), cause they get booked fast .

A wonderfully relaxing holiday in a perfect location with direct access to the large sandy beach and with great food and great service to match other more expensive Caribbean resorts.
This is a really great place for couples and families with plenty to do.
The rooms look like they have been recently refurbished. There are eight rooms in each thatched 2 story building each comes with a balcony or patio with chairs a small table and a hammock. I had a double room on the upper floor with a very large bed. The room was air conditioned with a ceiling fan. There was plenty of wardrobe space. There was a fridge stocked with beer, water and other soft drinks plus a coffee maker. There is a hairdryer, iron and ironing board and in the shower a washing line.
There are 3 restaurants (Mexican, Italian and Oriental) which need to be booked for dinner the day before plus a large buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Lunch is served buffet style at the restaurant next to the beach and the 2 swimming pools. There are snacks available throughout the day like pizza, nacho’s and biscuits. Drinks are also available from around 10am to midnight. The food was very good and there was a large choice.
The staff are really helpful and friendly and everyone speaks English.
Around the two pools and on the beach there are plenty of sunbeds. Towels are provided.
The beach is white sand and is cleaned every day. It is a public beach and there are a few people selling trips and souvenirs but it is not a problem. The sea is not cold but there was quite a bit of seaweed while I was there.
There are organised activities throughout the day for all ages as well as a kids club.
There are plenty of trips and activities outside the hotel including a day trip to the Mayan city of Chichen Itza one of the 7 wonders of the world. The local town is an easy 30 minute walk.
The hotel is part of the Occidental group and guests get invited to a free lunch at a sister hotel then are subject to a hard sell of the Occidental Vacation Club. My advice is don’t leave your brains at home and do not under any circumstances sign up to this club. If you are interested wait until you get home. It smacks of the Spanish time share scams.

Room tip: Not sure there is any choice.

Sorry for late review. We did the deal of fortune bk in 2006 and fot this resort. It was beautiful beach the best in area. Still to this day. I will visit the Rius next time we travel to Playacar. Allegro only had like 2 places to eat. Very clean then dated in alot of aspects but was a cozy good valued weekend getaway.
