“Great Resort.”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

My wife and I stayed here in November of 2011, and are going back next week. We loved the location. Next to the jungle and a 20 minute walk to town. Perfect! The beach is amazing and not too crowded.
The restaurants are not as good as a Sandals, but they aren't bad either. The buffet had lots to choose from.
Overall, a great choice for this area. That's why we are going back!

Room Tip: Rooms in the middle havethe most chance of seeing monkeys.

This is our second time back to Mexico, but first time staying at Tucan. Traveling with two children (2.5 and 6.5 years old) this place was a great choice for our family. There was always something to do for everyone. The staff are both helpful and friendly. Although we had to wait for our room till 3 pm, we were offered a hospitality room to change, shower, etc and were able to enjoy the resort. At 3 pm we received the key but when we got to room housekeeper was still there cleaning the room. But we did not care that much, our room was always clean and we loved the location in building 13, close to pool and beach, little walk to some restaurants or lobby was ok with us and kids loved the walk through the jungle. Looking for monkey's, saying hello to tucans, iguanas, and other animals. Back to our room... I thought it was a little too much moisture in the room (not sure how to describe it better) and it had only shower which was great for us but the 2.5 year old had to learn to like it. It was slippery too for kids especially. But we managed to work with what we had.

The beach is fantastic. They had a towel service where you could also borrow and umbrella for the beach. Loved that. In the beginning of our stay the water was wavy due to a little wind but second half of our stay water was pretty calm with one or two waves here and there. Great beach.

Pool was large and great for kids. Main part of the pool had a water aerobic every morning with Ricardo. Me and my older daughter loved it! It was so much fun. Ricardo and all star friends were excellent. Great entertainers. They had many games and other activities from morning thru the evening....Shows were daily at 9:30 pm, they were great, my kids always looked forward to them but the only negative I would say it was a little too late for them...

Food was OK. I felt that buffet restaurants always offered the same things but yet, still many options to choose from. Specialty restaurants....we were able to go to 3 of them...Mexican, japanies and steakhouse. My husband and I loved the mexican one the most but japanies was great too with a little show... they make the food in a front of you. Steakhouse was just OK. wasnt bad but I did not think it was as good as I expected based on the reviews I've read.

Drinks were OK, everywhere variety of juicies and soft drinks available also. Alcoholic drinks were OK. Mojito and beer was our favorite. Ice cream on the beach was delicious.

Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone, whether it's family with kids or just adult trip.
We traveled in he beginning of April 2012 and weather was wonderful. Although hotel was full, it did not feel "crowded" as it is a pretty big resort (compare to Fiesta americana Condesa in Cancun, where we stayed last year, and also liked it).

Room Tip: We stayed in building 13 and loved the location. It was close to pool and beach, some restaurants. L...

We had a great vacation at this resort. We loved the beach and the nature. The room was basic and the bed was a little firm for my taste but i slept fine. If you have a problem with stairs then request the first floor. We had a third floor room but i enjoyed the exercise. I loved the decor. The food was not my favorite but there was plenty of options. You will have a hard time being served food or drinks around the pool or on the beach, but again you wont have to walk far for either. The bartenders will be happy to give you an extra shot in your drink. If you are a wine drinker, as I am, then I suggest you go to playa del carmen and buy several bottles at the wine shop. Its much cheaper than the bottles at the resort. You can have the "house" white or red for free but I didnt like either. Playa Del Carmen is a short 20 min walk or cheap 8.00 cab ride. Our 10 yr old daughter had a blast but I would not count on the "childcare" if you are bringing children. It was lame and very unsecure. The wildlife was great -peacocks, monkeys, birds, etc.

Room Tip: Ask for Pool view and first floor.

This was an amazing vacation from the moment we stepped onto the hotel grounds. We were greeted with a welcome drink and given a personal greeting from the manager. This resort is not a luxury resort, but the service was fantastic. The grounds were immaculate, the waiters very attentive, fantastic beach, and the entertainment staff were so much fun. One of my favorite part of the resort as well was the jungle in the middle, they had monkeys, peacocks and an assortment of other animals walking around the resort. I was able to pet a monkey and see them from our balcony in the afternoon.

I would definitely recommend this resort and hope to go back sometime soon again!

Room Tip: We stayed in building 12 which was great! Close to the pool and beach, but a 10 min walk to the main...

superb from checkin to checkout.room was ideal, sea front view, just opened the balcony doors and listened to the sea in the mornings,a truly great alarm clock.the beach was beautiful and clean, with plenty of space.take a walk in either direction, we strolled for about 40 mins, plenty to see and no hassle-just relaxed.the room was excellent, cleaned every day. no mattress problems!food and drink, we found to be of a very good standard-it is not a 5 star hotel remember-with plenty of variety every sitting.found the beach restaurants very useful for the midday meals, no real need to get changed. used 3 of the specialist restaurants and found them very good. drink was on tap whenever you wished. you name it you get it.waitress service by the pool and on the beach was great, use it,remember- you don't have to tip, they'll come back even if you don't. and finally ,the walk through the jungle is fantastic!we had a camera the time.just watching the monkeys every day on the way to dinner was fantastic.and finally dont be put off by the 2 hotels, they are all one. going back as soon as we can!

Room Tip: if you can get a sea view, well worth it.but to be honest i would imagine whatever room you get there...

We stayed here in April 2010 - bit delayed with the review but finally got there! The hotel is 'twinned' with the one next door and they share some if the same resources, you can move around both if you wish. We had a great holiday here, even though it ended by being stranded for three days because of the Icelandic volcano, can't complain though as we were moved to a rui 400 metes away which was equally as nice. I would suggest that all the hotels on this playa strip are of a good standard. The toucan had a very professional and friendly feel to it, the range of food in the restaurant was fantastic, best we have had on all inclusive. The rooms are pretty spread out hacienda style maybe 10 to a block and we had a room near the restaurant which did mean a 200 metre walk to the pool through the forest area a few times a day, this was fine for us. There are monkeys in the trees and on the roof, peacocks wandering around and other wildlife to look at around the hotel. We also loved the pool restaurant for snacks and the smoothie bar on the beach. Pool drinks service was excellent, always walking around and the range of cocktails and speed of the bar staff was also very good. During the day the entertainments team provide regular activities and my son particularly liked the air rifles and archery. Entertainment in the evening was also good and again the service in the restaurants excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Room Tip: Think about whether you would rather be closer to the main restaurant or to the pool/beach area and...

It is a great place to stay, very welcoming, buitiful and friendly. The food was very good compair to other all inclusive hotels. Very well run place, a lot of activities during the day for everybody. Vendors are present but they don't bother anybody, like in other places. Rooms are very clean and service is excelent. Keep in mind that the ocean is not calm in there, but if you like waves, it is great!

Room Tip: if you like to be close to the ocean and the pool , ask for building 10, 11, 12
