We have recently returned from a holiday for eleven family members. Our son and daughter and their respective families. The age ranging from 3 to 63 for eleven nights at the Riu Tequila. We are all well travelled and used to a good standard and we were all very happy with all that the Tequila had to offer. The rooms were up to the usual Riu standard and the housekeeping was excellent. The food again was very goodin both terms of quality, quantity and choice. The only draw back was having to queue at 7.00am to book a table in the speciality resturants. The Asian Resturant was excellent, the Steak house was very good but the Mexican Resturant was no better than the general buffet, and certainly not worth getting up early for. But that was our only gripe, in all other respects the Tequila fulfilled the varied needs of all of family for the whole of the holiday.

Room Tip: Choose a first floor room to ensure you are not invaded by the harmless local wildlife

Hotel is very clean, lots of choices for food and drink. The staff are always friendly and very accomodating for us. We travelled with our 20 month old daughter and they treated her very well. Entertainment show at night was very neat, micheal jackson night, mamma mia, and the entertainment night to name a few. The hotel allowed vendors in for some night shopping. There was also singing from mexican bands that came in. The beach is what everyone says a short walk. The animals are there if you feed them they will bother you. My daughter enjoyed watching them and all the other animals. Hotel is very family apporpriate.

Our room was in the far complex, was a little walk with a child in your arms. But was very peacful with little disturbance on the second floor on in complex. Airconditioners work great too!
Thanks

Room Tip: Second floor is nice, closer to lobby would be ideal for families.

We stayed at the Tequila from 18th February to 3rd March 2012. We had a fabulous time, the hotel more than lived up to its reputation. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, with nothing "too much trouble".
It was my wifes birthday during the visit, and the hotel decorated our room and left a small gift for my wife. At our meal on the night, our table was duly decorated and she received the usual cake and songs from the waiters.
The hotel grounds were well tended and the food in the restraunts was to a high standard with something for everyone.
The short walk to the beach about which some reviewers had complained was extremely pleasant and a beautiful way to start the day. If this was to much for some people they used the small "golf cart" which was available on each day of our stay.
Overall we had a fabulous time, and a place we will almost certainly be visiting again in the future.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor, but if you prefer quiet, then a first floor room would be better.

My husband and I just returned from a beautiful vacation in the Mayan Riviera. We stayed at the Riu Tequila and had a wonderful time. The Staff was very friendly and clean. The Resort is beautiful, set in lush gardens surrounded by palm trees and blooming bushes. The Food is delicious, the buffet is tremendous, a huge variety each day. A short 5 min. walk takes you to the beautiful beach, which is one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen. A lunch buffet was served right there to accomodate the hotel guest. The rooms were very clean and had a lot of space. This vacation surpassed our expectation and we will return in a heartbeat. Thank you Riu Tequila :)

Clubhotel Tequila is about 5-10mins walk from the beach, it is a large, clean, well run and efficient hotel. The rooms are a good size and are kept clean. It has over 600 rooms, so is quite a large hotel, however the staff at Riu operate a smooth and slick operation of running it smoothly and efficiently. The food quality and selection overall is good. The occasional downside is that Riu's main restaurant is buffett style. At peak eating times this can get busy, it therefore gets noisy and crowded and queues form for food, only once in our 2 week stay there did that really bother me, that was because the staff were slow at keeping the food supply topped up in the buffet, but the staff are working like crazy.
Alternatively there are a choice of 3 'a la carte' restaurants in the hotel. Booking system is strange with it having to be done at 7am each day for that night. The asian restaurant is not a la carte, just buffett, the mexican is buffett first course then becomes waiter service, and the steak restaurant is waiter service, in my opinion the best one is steak, followed by mexican. The beauty about these restaurants is there is not the noise and crowd of the buffet restaurant, and you can get to sit quietly and enjoy your meal more !
Not sure why they have optics in the room, you can drink plenty in the bars, a better idea would be to have maybe tea & coffee facilities in room and the mini bar fridge for beer & soft drinks and get rid of the spirits in the optics.
The area is clean and friendly. We used the facilities of the Riu hotel Yucatan and Playacar to eat during the day whilst at the beach and these were good. Beach is great, no problems with beds etc.
Staff were great at all the hotels we used. Entertainment was put on each night at the Tequila, the entertainment team work hard, some of the shows were better than others, but you can see whats coming on that night and if its not for you then just go elsewhere, a good time to try either the Yucatan or Playacar's bars. There is activities that you can do with staff during the day if you wish, there is no pressure to get involved, we did a couple of times and it actually was good fun, and quite good to get a bit active other than enjoying that sun, but you can either chill and do nothing except sunbath, or if you want to get more involved in activities its there for you.
We did visit Playa Carman one night, which was busy and lively, traders will ask you to visit there shops and stalls etc, a polite No is all that is need to stop them, but this happens a lot in the main parts. Its lively and tacky at the same time, so be warned !
Had a lazy two weeks and enjoyed it, a good way to get some warm sunshine and recharge those batteries, and for the price thought it was good value for money.
Hotel Tequila is more a family hotel, than for couples, however it is still a good hotel and excellent value for money.
If you want any other info, please PM me.
Enjoy !

I took my son to Mexico in late 2011 so he could see what its all about. We had a great experience at the Tequila. It was way more for the money than I had anticipated. We walked to the beach everyday. The food was great and we enjoyed the great entertainment every night. The best part of our trip was the new friends we made from all over the world. If you are looking for a fun place to get the best bang for your buck defiantly check this out.

I cannot rate this hotel highly enough, the staff were very friendly, the accommodation was excellent the only thing I think which many British people would agree is the lack of Tea Making facilities in the room., but one simply had to go to the restaurant to obtain a cup ( no real hardship) I have saved the best until last. THE FOOD was FANTASTIC nobody could could complain at the variety, quality and just wonderful choice. If you are on a diet do not go to this Hotel. I would highly recommend this for your holiday.

Room Tip: Ground floor are best
