Not much to say since we were just there for one night as a stopover, but we stayed at a newer section at the top. Room was comfortable and convenient, it was away from the noise and the location was further away form the main madness on 5th.

Playa is a wild town full of tourists from all-inclusives by day, and a lively party scene at night. Despite being right between 5th and 10th, Aventura has a super chill vibe and is quiet. The grounds are lush and the rooms are clean and well appointed. The staff is top notch; Very friendly and helpful. Can't recommend the place highly enough!

Be sure to check out Kava Kasa on the hotel grounds. They do yoga by day, and serve traditionally prepared kava by night. Kava is a mild intoxicant from the south pacific that provides a wonderful euphoric feeling and muscular relaxation. Great for a hangover the day after a hard night of partying, or just when you want to chill in a space with a nice vibe and good music. Apparently, Kava Kasa gets their kava from a kava distributor in Portland, Oregon, Bula Kava House, who is known for importing the best kava the south pacific has to offer.

This hotel has a GREAT location! It actually is as beautiful as the pictures. Close to everything, we used the free chairs at the nearby Beach Club. Luis helped direct us around town and book our day trips.

Clean room. (Although our bathroom did not have a door, so beware!). We got a great massage from Eduardo. Overall - it was a great time and a peaceful getaway! I would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Playa.

Free wifi was spotty in the room but good access in the common areas.

I spent 10 days here with my husband and friends to celebrate my birthday. Our room overlooked the pool; a great spot. We loved the Mayan Bistro, the food was great and reasonably priced, charges in pesos. Great cocktails with inventive twists on known recipes, which kept things interesting. Disappointed that the Kava Kasa lounge is not licensed to sell alcohol so if you want something other than a delicious made-to-order soft drink (and they were certainly delicious) you had to buy your drink in the Mayan Bistro next door and bring it through. Not a huge deal but I feel they are missing a trick here.

Special mention to Gabby and Candy in the Mayan Bistro, Marco in Kava Kasa, Louis and the reception team and the housekeeping team who worked all the hours to make all the guests' stays comfortable.

The hotel is in an ideal location for the beach (about a 10 minute walk), a variety of shops and great restaurants. Had amazing tacos and ceviche at good value. I recommend this location to anyone who wants a holiday in Mexico away from the huge resorts where all you can eat, drink and see is easily accessible.

Room tip: Choose either a rustic room overlooking the pool or the contemporary overlooking the gardens. Avoid the rooms at the front of the hotel if possible due to possible street noise. Avoid the room next to reception, you'll hear the phones all night.

My husband and I just concluded our 5th stay here in the last 6 years. We were joined by my sister and her husband, who have stayed 4 times. It was refreshing to see the same customer-oriented staff that we had to say goodbye to at the end of last year’s stay. Luis, Guest Services Manager, and Jose happily checked us in and immediately got busy ensuring our rooms would be ready as quickly as possible (we arrived early). We always stay in the adult area of the hotel; however, there’s also a family-friendly section with a separate family pool. The rooms are very spacious, with comfortable beds, pillows and nice linens. Organic toiletries are provided in the rooms, including shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion and aloe. Thanks to our housekeeper, Lupita, who was very thorough in cleaning our room daily.
This is a small, quiet boutique hotel and not a resort. You don’t have the noise from 5th avenue, which is only half a block away and where there are over 35 blocks of great shopping, eating, drinking, etc. (All the streets are brick, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.) There’s also a bus station on 5th avenue, as well as the ferry to Cozumel, so the Aventura Mexicana's location is ideal to be near anything you want to see or do.
The hotel is a couple blocks walking distance from the beach, but we prefer to relax at the hotel and enjoy our lunch and drinks there. There are several areas to sunbathe or just relax, either by the pools or on the 2nd or 3rd open areas, where there are plenty of lounges and umbrellas. We relaxed on the 3rd level on most days, where there is also a palapa to sit under. A small market is held every Tuesday. My sister and I bought numerous unique jewelry pieces from two vendors. Clothing and food vendors were also represented. It’s good that we were there for only one market day! None of us have ever utilized the spa until this year, and we’re now wondering why. Wow! Lupita and Eduardo provided the best messages any of us have ever had. My husband, sister and I all had two messages over two consecutive days; my brother-in-law had one message. The spa is located in a very nice, quiet, private location; this can also be scheduled in advance of your arrival. Will definitely be a must-do on our next trip.
When we booked our hotel reservations, we also added the VIP all-inclusive meal plan. This can only be booked through the Aventura Mexicana web site, or I understand you can add the plan at the time of check-in. It’s well worth it for several reasons: fabulous food from the Mayan Bistro Restaurant and Bar, and all the food and drink you want at any time during open hours. It doesn’t get any better than that! It’s not just the food that’s great at the Mayan Bistro. The staff is the best, and we knew all of them from previous years. This has been so important to us and something you don’t have at a large resort. Many thanks to Manager Chris, bartender Jorge, breakfast/lunch servers Dora, Candy and Sara, and evening servers Nicholas and Gaby for making us feel like we’re all family. (For more details, see my Trip Advisor Restaurant review of the Mayan Bistro.) There’s also a kava lounge, the Kava Kasa, located at the hotel. However, we all seemed too busy and forgot to stop in for an evening beverage, as we last year.
As in previous years, we were extremely pleased with our stay at the Aventura Mexicana and felt sad to say goodbye to our friends for another year. Thanks to Rob for always taking care of us and for managing the best hotel in Playa del Carmen.

Room tip: Request a ground floor room if you have any problems with steps, as there are no elevators.
