This is my third time to Playa Maya. Was there for 7 nights and left on 1-18-12. Just love this hotel. Staed in room 302 on the top floor with a beautiful view of the ocean. Best room in my opinion. Close to 5th Ave (but far enough so no noise), the beach is right as you exit the hotel; the included breakfast was great each morning. Even though their site says Continental breakfast (I believe), it is a FULL breakfast. They put the beach lounges out each morning and set up an umbrella if you like. The staff at the desk and in the restaurant are all VERY friendly and accomodating. Also, the place if VERY clean in the rooms and the rest of the hotel. Price also includes Wi-Fi. THIS IT THE PLACE TO STAY!!
The only reason I would NOT want to recommend this place is so when I want to return, I can get a room.

Room Tip: Room 302 is the best in my opinion.

We arrived 1/8/12, this was our first time at Playa Maya and we soon realized we had made a great choice! The location can't be any better, right on the beach, just feet from the water and a constant breeze. We stayed in room 201, it had the best view each morning of the sun coming up and we enjoyed coffee there each day on the balcony. The room was quite nice and always clean. We ate all our meals at Playa Maya, the selection was great incluing the fish tacos, shrimp tacos, coconut shrimp, calamari, and the grouper! Yum! Our last night there they set up a special table{we were the last to eat} and Jesus took excellent care to make it perfect! Maria and Julianna helped us book side trips{Tulum and Selvatica} and guided us to all pick-up locations. The staff is friendly and helpful, the location is perfect{the busy shopping st., 5th is one block away} and the Beach, where you can find any shell you want! Want to relax with GREAT service, come to Playa Maya, you will not be disappointed!!

Room Tip: Second and third floor romms with balcony have best view

We loved our stay at Playa Maya. This is a hotel where people care about their jobs and strive to do well. And they are wonderful. Let me share some additional information.
This is a quaint hotel located in the middle of the beach between the gran Porto all inclusive, and the pier. There is a very small pool, but if you are a "pool person" do not come here. This is a hotel for beach travelers.
The rooms are very clean, a small refrigerator, safe, closet, shower, tv, view. Large and comfy beds.
There are two bars a couple of doors down on either side so if a light sleeper you may hear some noise. I did, but it wasn't a problem and there were many older travelers here so it's not a nightclub atmosphere just on saturday night you may hear something. More like really mellow, to each their own, be polite and not a big party type. We met great people.
Food is excellent too many great restaurants around, but I recommend ceviche, guacamole, grouper fresh fish filet.

Room Tip: Jacuzzi suite is in lower level and is very private with no view. We stayed in standard balcony loved it

Playa Maya is a brilliant little hotel. we came back for the second time recently, and if anything, it was even better than before. It is right on the beach - any closer to the water it would have to be a submarine. breakfast is great, the staff are lovely, the beers are cold.
its only 100 m walk to anenida quinta, the main drag in playa del carmen. And although the bar/restaurant closes early (no dinner), this keeps the place quiet, and a 50 m walk along the beach gets you to Fusion, a fabulous beach bar with outstanding food, so you get the best of both worlds.

Room Tip: deluxe balcony give you a brilliant view of the caribbean, and a sunrise worth getting up for

The food here is great - we ate lunch here 3 times over our 6 day trip. I highly recommend the fish tacos and their fresh pico de gallo and hot sauce. The staff members were all super friendly as well.
