We stayed in a two bedroom with our one year old and my mother-in-law. This was perfect for us. We used the kitchen, laundry room, pool, and beach. The location was also perfect - close to a bakery and a many nice places to eat, and a great view. I think this was the nicer end of 5th Ave. Staff - friendly and helpful. When we return to Playa we will stay here.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write about our stay but as I never write reviews that says alot that I'm even doing this. Our stay at the Riviera Maya Suites was one of the best family vacations we've had yet. We have a 7 year old boy and a 5 year old girl and this was perfect for us. We've stayed in alot of luxury hotels all over the world but we did NOT want an all inclusive plastic cookie cutter vacation. We wanted a great spot with a little more individuality than the all inclusives that line the coast from Cancun on. We found that at Playa del Carmen suites. First of all we had a "penthouse" apartment so that we could have the view of the water. I don't know that the view of the water made that much difference as the tropical plantings are so spectacular I would have been just as happy looking at the trees and plants from the balcony. Our apartment was huge and it was so great to have all of that space to spread out in with our two kids. We may never go back to a normal hotel room again! Separate bedrooms with separate baths, a huge living area and nice kitchen. Truely we didn't use the kitchen much except for snacks and breakfast on occasion because we fell in love with 5th Avenue right around the corner for meals. Even so, it was nice to have the refrigerator for drinks. The apartment was very clean and it was awesome to have the laundry machines - so nice to come home with a suitcase of clean clothes! So the accomodations were great. It is not a 5 star type of resort but I'm not sure you can compare because it is entirely different to stay in an apartment than a luxury hotel. For us it gave us a better sense of being in Playa del Carmen. 5th Avenue was key to that and we might never have experienced it if we had been in one of the resorts down the beach. Las Palapas was beautiful and the paths that you go through to emerge in Las Palapas were like manicured jungle. I was truely blown away by how beautiful they were. Las Palapas itself has a bit larger pool than the suites, and has a stunning area of beach with tons of palm trees. The poolside/beach bar was fine, not exceptional but had the requisite pina coladas, etc. Las Palapas itself and the Suites were very quiet and family oriented and we enjoyed meeting other families from around the world. Also, the staff was super helpful in arranging some daytrips for us and found us the best guide ever for our trip to Chichen Itza. It was a long haul there and you cannot climb on the ruins so I probably wont do that one again but is sort of a must see if you have any interest in historical sites. We will definately do Xcaret again! So much to do in that area with not nearly enough time in a one week stay. All in all we had a spectacular time, have plans to go again and our kids said it was "better than Disneyworld" which at their age is very high praise! Would recommend to anyone for a not so run of the mill family vacation.

Room Tip: Any of the apartments would be great.

We have had many visits to Playa Del Carmen and our second time renting a condo. Last year we stayed at the Palmar - also managed by Simona et al. This year was RMS. Although both places exceeded expectations, RMS has the better location of the two for serenity.
My husband and I were travelling with our two young children and their grandmother as well so the layout of the suite was perfect for us. Three bedrooms each with their own ensuite provided everyone with their own space and privacy. The balcony had a fantastic view and two hammocks for relaxing as well as a dining table and chairs if we chose to eat outside. We used the suite for breakfast - fully equipped kitchen - and some lunches but always ate dinner out.
The facilities at Las Palapas were perfect. Everyday we would venture down the drive, say good morning to the resident iguanas, and set up camp either at the pool or beach. There is a restaurant and beach bar right there for meals and beverages and only a five minute stroll down the beach to Mammitas Beach Club for variety. There is also a clay figure painting area set up next to the pool for the kids to create their masterpieces to bring home. It isn't busy or loud - perfect for families or if you just need some serious R&R.
Evenings were spent walking down 5th Avenue. There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from and all types of cuisines. Da Gigi - Italian - which is right at our corner was fantastic. Other favourites - Yachxe - Mayan $$$, Las Delicias - Mexican, and many, many more.
We decided to try Aktun Chen for our tour this year. Simona provided great advice and made some phone calls to assist us in getting the best deal and arranging transportation for us. The kids are 6 and 9 and had a fantastic day on the zip line, cave hikes and snorkelling in the cenote.
All in all, our best trip yet to PDC and we will be back to stay again at Riviera Maya Suites.

We traveled with extended family including a 2 year old. Best things about condo were the location, access to the Las Palapas Beach club and fitness center, size of rooms, and staff. Pool and hot tub were fine, furniture was comfortable but could have stood a good cleaning. Kitchen was adequate though somewhat sparse for utensils if you plan to cook for a group. Note that in Mexico a stove does not include an oven. We stayed in a 3 bedroom condo. All rooms were good size and had a bathroom. Living area and dining area were spacious and comfortably furnished. The one thing I would have loved to have a gas grill. There is a charcoal grill that can be used on the roof top but the lighting was less than optimal for grilling at night and there is a charge for its use.

RM Suites is a great choice. The staff is friendly and efficient. The room we had was clean and spacious. The view from the roof top deck is spectaculor. The beach club also was great. We highly recommend these apartments.

Not includid on the RM brochure: There is a Deportiva ( Community Sports facility) one block away. They have yoga, salsa lessons, tennis courts, basketball courts. and a 400m track (much better than running on the streets)

Also 3 minutes to Veronicas Gold Massage see Trip Advisor reports!!!

The food at the Las Palapas Hotel is not a highlight. But there are lots of restaurants near by.
