At first we sought a place on the beach for our stay in Tulum but prices were frankly too high. So we booked a bedroom in this hostel, in Tulum town. This decision appeared to be the best though, the weather was pretty cloudy and rainy and it would have been freezing on the beach. The hotel was really nice and clean; bedrooms faces a central garden with tables, couches and a hammock. Tea, coffee and fruit always available... like it!

The place is perfect. Clean, green, smells good and the most important, the guys there (Joshua and Maura) are great guides. They are always there for you. You can ask them about the nice places places to visit, to eat and exchange trip experiences.
I really recommend Secret Garden as a great place to stay in Tulum.

Josh, Maura, and Minka are the best hosts. The Secret Garden is located in a nice, relaxed neighborhood just a couple of blocks off the main street. The beach is too far to walk to but an easy bike ride. The public beach is beautiful and the Mezzanine serves 2 for 1 margaritas from in the afternoons (happy hour there is 1-4pm, a little earlier than the US). Everyone is so thoughtful and kind. My friend arrived late and Josh loaned her his bike so we could get to dinner faster. The tables in the garden are a perfect place to start and end the day. I liked the drying ladder in my room so much I'm thinking about building one for my own laundry room. The ladder was perfect for drying swimsuits and other beach stuff. I'm already planning another trip to Tulum and will be staying at the Secret Garden again. Every, single thing Maura and Josh suggested was the best--food, beaches, etc. Next time I'm renting a car so I can do more of the things they recommend! Staying at the Secret Garden and using only a bike for transportation was a relaxing experience. Everything was so easy. I only used a clock once all week--to wake up in time for the 7:30am pick-up for the Iguana Bike jungle ride/cenote snorkel. Being the first ones there and seeing the first rays of sunshine coming through the crystal clear water was worth setting an alarm for!

We stayed at Secret Garden in order to have a more authentic experience in Tulum pueblo, and we're very happy with our choice. Really well maintained central garden space with couches, lights, hammock....great area to relax after a day at the beach or trip to the Coba, Snorkeling, etc. Clean and comfertable, great value and friendly and courteous hosts, we'll definitely go back!

I took a chance, just arriving at the front door, from a long overnight bustrip. A lucky decision, since the owner Joshua was there - and gave me a lovely little room and a warm welcome. It felt like coming to a friend´s house. Also Maura whose working with Joshua was a lovely person. The rooms (I moved around, since it was the Christmas season and fully booked) were all charming, simple, yet comfortable, and the garden inviting for a snack or just a chat. The atmosphere informal, relaxed, friendly, but still with integrity. I bicycled to the beach - a nice halv an hour ride, no problem at all, since staying in town at Secret Garden was such a treat.

Comfortable, friendly and quiet - We really enjoyed our stay at the Secret Garden. The rooms are simple but tastefully designed - the AC worked fine - the garden is a great place to enjoy coffee and snacks in the morning and to hang out and socialize with other guests - Joshua and Maura are great hosts!

Secret Garden is in the town of Tulum - We hadn't realized that the town of Tulum is not within easy walking distance of the beach - you have to drive, bike or take a bus - On the other hand I'm sure places closer to the beach are much more expensive.
