“Quiet, Romantic and secluded...”
Reviewed 20 November 2012

This is beach front accommodation, in a small enclosure, way down south on the beach front away from all the hustle and bustle. The cabanas are solid and are a 20 second walk from the most incredible beach and crystal clear water.

Jorge, the owner, does not speak English but relates well, he is friendly and accommodating.
The cabanas are well furnished with salt water running in the shower, mosquito nets and sea breezes.
There was electricity that worked all night.

It was quiet and we felt safe.

If you want to walk up the beach at night for dinner, take a torch....

Tulum IS overpriced, I recommend you eat in town, with the locals - better food and cheaper!

Room Tip: Any of the two cabanas near the front of the beach...

My husband and I went there for our honeymoon. We stayed in the cabana Albatros, the whole 10 days we were in Tulum. We enjoyed our stay there so much for many reasons. The owner Jorge is so nice and friendly, his dog Lyka is aslo nice. The cabana we stayed in was comfortable, spacious and well kept by house keeping. Just steps to the beach with tables, chairs, loungers and beautyful section of beach. Not bothered by bugs the whole trip. Even with Rosa del Viento Hotel & Resort next door it was quiet our whole stay day or night. We will be back!

Room Tip: Beach breeze helps you sleep at night

My boyfriend and I started our 10-day Mexico trip with 3 nights in Tulum. We found Ixchel through luck and perseverance--every other place we looked at just wasn't right. Then at the end of the beach we found Ixchel: a quiet oasis on an unbelievable perfect stretch of beach. The room (Colibri) was spacious and comfortable, and Jorge was kind, providing water, advice and even a paddle ball set to play with on the beach.

We began days on the beach chairs (seconds from our door), drinking cappuccinos from the restaurant next door while watching the waves. Then swimming, frisbee, walking down the beach, scuba diving down the road or just laying around reading, watching the fishermen come in. The other people staying there were nice and mellow too. Ixchel has no restaurant, but there are many good restaurants right down the beach, and it's an unbelievably romantic beach to stroll down--we felt like we nearly had it to ourselves (we were there in August). We hardly ever needed to put our shoes on--everything is so close, and on the beach.

We had reservations at a hotel elsewhere afterwards, and had to leave after our three nights, but we made a point to come back to Ixchel on our last night in Mexico. It was just too wonderful. We hope to come back again soon!

Room Tip: Gaviota and Colibri both share no walls with any other room. Gaviota is right on the beach, and Coli...

Cabanas Ixtchel is a most place. We had a wonderful welcome from Jorge, his wife and Victor.
We first stayed in Colibri, Which is in the middle of an eden-like garden. At the end of our tour through Yucatan, we came back because we loved it so much there. This time, we stayed in Gaviota, which has a direct view on the beach and is even better than Colibri.
There's a great restaurant next door. I highly recommend this place!

What an amazing property! The location is stunning. Tulum has become more developed in recent years and the central area is congested and noisy. Cabanas Ixchel still affords you the quiet relaxing experience. The Cabanas are adorable - clean, comfortable and quaint. The rooms are cleaned daily. Fresh water is provided free of charge. The bed was comfortable and a mosquito net ensured no unwanted night time guests. Previous guests have commented on the water pressure - while not US standard, the pressure is perfectly adequate for showering, and both hot and cold water are available. Jorge and his wife are wonderful hosts and genuinely seek to ensure that your stay is as perfect as you would hope. Although they do not speak English, there was never a problem making yourself understood adding to the quaintness of the property. There are only five Cabanas on the property and they are well spaced throughout the property meaning that you never feel overlooked or lacking privacy - unlike many of the other properties we considered staying at. The beach is gorgeous - turquoise seas, blonde powdery sand and an abundance of palm trees. The only issue we had personally was the new property next door. Although not a nuisance noise wise it did result in more company on the beach. If we were to return to Tulum we would return to Cabanas Ixchel in a heartbeat.

For the second year we had a great, relaxing vacation at Ixchel. From the moment you get there, Jorge and the rest are there to make sure you have everything you need. This is not a 5-star hotel but that's what makes it special. We stay in Gaviota which is right on the beach with windows all along the front making a view of the beach, aqua water and swaying palms the first thing you see when you wake up. The water is about 50 steps from the front door and there's a grove of palm trees for shade when needed. The cabana gets cleaned every day, you usually have to ask for clean towels and there's always plenty of clean drinking water. Unfortunately, or fortunately-however you look at it - there's a new beach club/restaurant built this year right next door and it definitely changes the mood at Ixchel, making it less private than previously and putting more people on the beach but still not many. This is a great place to spend your time if you're looking for peace, quiet and absolutely nothing to do but read.

Room Tip: There's only five cabanas and all are good although the front two - Albatross and Gaviota get th...
