We had been recommended this restaurant by friends and had looked forward to try it. The restaurant has a very good atmosphere. We went for the menu of the day and decided also to opt for the wine with each course to try some different wines.

It might have been a bad day with less staff than foreseen, as the 3 waiters were literally running around and did as much as they could on a full house Saturday evening.
We were served the first cod starter without any information what was in it. We waited about 10 minutes for the wine to be served, but it did not come, so we had to ask twice to get some and the waitress seemed to have forgotten that we had opted for the wine to be included. We were then served the white wine but without telling us which wine it was.

The second and hot starter came and it was simply delicious. I asked what was in this starter and the waitress said that she did not know! We waited again a little bit for the wine to be served, but it did not happen, so we just started eating. When we were almost finished they came and topped up with the same wine as for the first and cold starter and this time we were poured a very big glass. We had expected that a different type of wine would have been served more suitable for this warm and a bit spicy dish.

The main course was also very nice, though my husband would have preferred the steak to have cooked a bit more. But we were not asked about how we preferred the steak cooked which we had expected of a restaurant of this level. There were no steak knives which would have been useful as the meat was a little chewy and difficult to cut. Again we waited for the redwine to be served and had to ask for it. I had to ask that I also wanted some redwine despite I had not yet finished the white wine. They gave us 2 different redwine glasses which seemed a bit weird. My husband asked what type the redwine was and the bottle was quickly shown but no explanation about the wine.

The dessert was a little disappointing a chocolate tarte with 1 berry and a tiny bit of cream and tiny bit of coulis. A bit more fruit would have increased the presentation and flavour. We were not served any drinks with the dessert and we gave up as we had no idea what really was included in the "wine forfaits". We opted to go home and have the coffee at home with avec,.,,, so we left rather disappointed as we have always had better service in restaurants with Michelin star

Nice restaurant with vey cosy atmosphere. Were there with a party of 8 and had the suggested menu. Everything was really good, and they also found very good replacement dish for our vegetarian friend. Only not very positive remark is that the creme brules came in very different sizes, some had normal portion, some a very small one. I will certainly be back. Convenient parking available

We had their 'Menu Gourmand' which is excellent value and includes wines with each course. The menu changes regularly and is full of surprises which makes it difficult to chose between the dishes.

This time we chose carpaccio de biche fumé and ecrivisses marinées, followed by escalope de foie poele on a risotto aux champignons des bois and noix St. Jacques. Mains were médallion de marcassin and filet de plie et crevettes grises and to finish tartelette au Toberlone.

Every dish was cooked to perfection, the wines were well matched and all was served with a smile.

This is the 2nd time we have dined at this restaurant and it lived up to our expectations. The restaurant is located not far from the main road and has ample parking. Inside there are dining rooms to the left and right of the entrance and a couple of high tables by the bar.

The Sunday lunch menu offered an interesting choice of dishes and we chose the carpaccio of beef plus the mushrooms which were served on a savoury galette with a truffle espuma. To follow we decided on the lamb and sole with scallops. The lamb was beautifully cooked as was the seafood dish. Although an interesting idea, the red pepper filled with lentils (more suited to a spicier cuisine) didn't mix well with the lamb and the seafood dish could have done with a little less saffron which overpowered the delicate sole and scallops. All dishes were beautifully presented and portions were adequate. Dessert was a brownie with crème anglais and this was rather disappointing after the previous courses.

Our waiter and waitress were both friendly and provided good service.

The menu changes regularly and is always interesting, so despite the small criticisms we will definitely return. The chef is definitely innovative and the menus are always interesting especially the weekday lunch ones, however in this case he was maybe too adventurous.

L’Auberge de la Roseraie is simply delicious!!! Without false humbleness I have a demanding palate and I have to say I have never enjoyed such a delicate plate as the “Filet de biche” (deer), served at this cozy restaurant located in Ohain, Belgium. It was an exquisite experience to the senses.... a dish to die for!!! The “Terrine de canard sauvage” was also delicious!!!
