We managed to get a very good deal on a half board basis in a standard one bedroom apartment. We paid approximately half of the standard b&b price!.

The hotel is in a remote location at the end of a badly maintained road with no footpaths. A car is definitely needed with a young family.
This hotel would not be suited to people looking for a lively holiday with lots of nightlife as there is nothing happening here. There is absolutely no entertainment other than the swimming pool to occupy children and a small bar. The hotel is excellent for people wanting a relaxing holiday exploring the beautiful beaches in the area.

On arrival we were allocated room 101, located near to the reception and restaurant.
Although the apartment was spacious, the tiny bathroom was terrible. It was very dated and mouldy. There were serious drainage issues and water would overflow from the bath up through the drain in the floor resulting in flooding which was evidently a regular problem due to the fact the wooden doors and furniture were showing signs of water damage.
The kitchen was also tiny with no overhead cupboards so all crockery and cutlery was kept under the sink which was located directly outside the bathroom door. We personally found this unhygienic so didn't use the kitchen facilities.
The bedroom didn't have air con, just a ceiling fan.
We were told that our room was one of the last waiting to be upgraded (which could be the reason for our bargain!) which should be happening over the winter so hopefully all rooms should be perfect for 2018.

The staff were fantastic with dealing with the problem and upgraded us to a junior suite (room 507) as soon as one was available a couple of days after arrival.
The suite which had been recently updated was very spacious with excellent sea views. Unlike the apartment it had a huge modern bathroom, air con in the bedroom and a better equipped kitchen. The balcony was however smaller than the terrace in the standard apartment and the shower water was surprisingly not as hot or powerful as in the shabby apartment!

The restaurant was excellent. There was a huge selection every day for breakfast and a lovely lady would cook fresh eggs, pancakes and omelettes to order. The restaurant had a large terrace with magnificent views where we could continue to watch the sun rise during breakfast.
The evening buffet had a different menu every day serving a great variety of tasty salads, hot dishes, fresh fruit and desserts.
The only problem we had was, half board didn't include drinks (which we expected) but they refused to give a copy of the drinks bill that you signed for each night. You therefore had no record for yourself of what you were spending. When you are staying a week or two it makes it difficult to keep track of so we had to take a photo of the bill each night.
The restaurant could also have done with some background music in the evening to avoid the school or hospital canteen feel and the hot food wasn't particularly hot even at the beginning of service. The show cooking was Italian Pasta every day. It would have been nice to have another option occasionally for people who don't eat pasta.

The swimming pool was freezing cold but it was October.
The beach although pretty was too rocky and the sand very dark, almost mud like. We had to travel in the car to visit much nicer beaches.

Room tip: All rooms have sea view.

Nicely renovated modern rooms with sea view. Welcoming personnel and especially the French lady in the restaurant at breakfast time made us feel very good about our stay. Any extra help was easy to get. The hotel is 25 min drive from the parking of Balos beach. Then you need to walk another 20 min to reach this spectacular natural beauty.
We had a fantastic time! Many thanks from the French family

I stayed at Balos Beach Hotel for 4 nights as part of my extended stay in Crete. From checking in to checking out absolutely everything was perfect. I was met by extremely friendly staff. Shown to my room which was of an amazing standard with patio doors leading out to the beach.. The first night I forgot to shut the curtains and was woken by the most beautiful sunrise.. All rooms face the sea so the view of the sun rise is for all to see... Has to be the best alarm clock ever.
The food was excellent. I couldn't find any fault with this hotel, staff or service.

If you visit Crete you must visit Balos too because here you can see that heaven is a place on earth! The water is very clear and the colors are unique! The only thing that I didn't like was the road to the beach. The lady were we pay the tax said that we have 2 kilometers to walk and that is a easy road. It was horrible to me because I hate the stears and the heat. You can rent horses for 10 euros/ person but only one road.
