We'd been eating Mexican food with gusto for nearly a month and needed a break. How about Thai? Sure; that sounds like a good idea. Thus, three of us popped into Orquidea Thai on the evening of Good Friday. Unlike virtually every other eatery in San Miguel that night, finding a table here was no problema. That's odd because the food here is very good. We started with two Thai standbys, Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay plus some Thai-type Guacamole. All were good although we thought the Satay was a bit too dry. Jane's red fish curry was very good, my pad Thai was okay, and Jose's chicken salad was complex and tasty. All portions were very large so, if you go there, be advised of that fact. The Orquidea Thai is a hidden jewel in San Miguel and provides an excellent respite from a steady diet of Mexican cuisine.

Very nice environment. Excellent classical guitar provided in unobtrusive manner. Very friendly staff. It is worth the trip down the stairs. We returned for a second meal.
Food excellent with generous portions.

I was really disappointed with most of the food. The green curry I had was average at best, but everything else was really not good. Pad Thai was quite vinegary. Thai fried rice was extremely bland. The satay had no spice to it at all (even though I asked for level 9/10).

They really shouldn't describe it as Thai food. It's more like Thai-Mexican fusion. Still doesn't taste good, though.

The service was even worse. Perhaps he was having an off day, but it was stunningly poor.

Even soft drinks are extremely overpriced. We can buy a 3 L bottle of soda at the local shops and still have change for what they charge for a single small can. They charge at least 80 MXN for Singha beer, and you can get it at Mega for 36. A little markup is expected, but this was ridiculous.
