Four of us recently visited this restaurant for dinner after having visited the Scottish Owl Centre at nearby Polkemmet. The Inn is however not the easiest of places to find if you don't know the area well as I initially drove past the entrance lane even though there was a sign right next to it. Having the sign a bit away from the entrance might make it easier to anticipate.
We arrived early in the evening and the restaurant wasn't busy. The main dining room was however a bit on the cold side and on pointing this out to the waitress we were told that the heaters were controlled by a timing switch that couldn't be altered.
Our food order was taken quickly and the food was delivered to our table without too much of a delay. This restaurant seems to be following the fashion of presenting food in wire cages or on wooden boards rather than plates. This is OK if the food is well cooked. Two of us had haddock and chips and while the fish was lovely the chips were somewhat insipid coloured and lacked real bite. They could definitely have done with being cooked for an extra three or four minutes.
All in all it was a reasonably acceptable meal, although not particularly exciting. Will we return? I really don't think so. One pleasant surprise however was that the two plates of fish and chips were subject to a special offer deal so overall the bill was less than expected.
1st time in since it opened under new management, and weren't disappointed... Food was excellent and great value for money, presentation was nice too .. Tables are very rustic which I like but doesn't match with the seating or carpets, hopefully through time the owners can get the rustic look all over maybe lower lighting plus candles in bottles etc, also lighting the lanterns on the tables ... Will def return :)
The place opened approx a year ago if memory serves under new management. A little facelift in the bar area and restaurant could do with a little tlc when money permits. Been twice now, lunch last year and visited last week with mum for some food. Fish and chips twice and a round of drinks and teas coffees. The main meals were very nicely presented in little baskets on boards and me being fussy asked for a plate and no issues at all. Fish and chips were absolutely delicious and even though we were full managed to finish it all. Nice touches were sauce chip shop style in little bottles and mushy peas and tartar sauce. Would recommend and this place needs a bit more publicity.
