There was some urgent work that needed to be done. This was caused by a storm that came through, this group was very diligent about fixing it immediately, however, it did cause some dust . Once they explained what the reason was, and they offered to move us, we felt we had to comment and congratulate them on the professionalism they showed.
It’s a sign of good management when problems are solved and not ignored.
We will be back next year. Great job....

Room Tip: They are all good, high in the hills overlooking the Sea of Cortez

We stayed at Montecristo for a week at the end of November 2017. It was a wonderful, relaxing vacation. Of course, there were some great things and some glitches (as with any type of travel).
23giants

This was our first time to Cabo, and when we came over the hill into the Pueblo Bonito complex we were floored by the incredible views down the mountains to the ocean. Absolutely spectacular. And huge - the complex includes Sunset Beach, Montecristo, and Quivera - it's miles of property.

Check-in was quick and painless. The clerk was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. As soon as we turned around with the key we were introduced to the sales person who wanted to sign us up for the 'free bunch' (timeshare pitch). We've been down that road before and knew to decline.
Our airport transfer service kindly waited to take us to our villa, but when we got there we discovered that it was dead center in a construction zone. There were piles of gravel in the front yard and some kind of drilling going on within feet of the entrance. Why they would even put guests there I don't know, but they were helpful when I called and asked for a different villa. Our concierge Eddie showed up at the same time and also called to help us find a better area. We were shown another villa farther up the hill, but it was still really close to the construction and not in the best condition. Finally, he found a villa farther down in Phase 2 that was just being cleaned, and it was perfect.

VILLA
Our villa (115) was well kept, clean, spacious (really more than our small family needed, but nice to have), and had a fabulous view. The villas appear to be close together, but because of the elevation differences they're quite private.

We absolutely loved having a private pool, and it was bath water warm. We used it everyday. My 4-year old could have stayed there the entire time. The pool is about 4 feet deep all the way around, so if you have kids they'll need floaties or something.

The patios are great - we would have breakfast on the upstairs patio until the sun became too hot, then move down to the shaded lower level. The furniture was comfortable and in good condition. We used the hot tub a few times and were impressed - clean, well kept, amazing views. By the last day or two we were starting to see whales - bring your binoculars!!

Inside the villa has climate controls for every room, so we could open up parts to the patio while keeping the bedrooms (and closets) cool. The kitchen was modern and everything worked, and it has all the basics. It doesn't come with cleaning supplies or coffee filters or anything. The furniture was all clean and comfortable. The beds were wonderful - the best I've had anywhere in Mexico (and most places in the US) by far.

We were perfectly located just a few houses up the hill from the entrance so could easily walk down to the Market (5mins) or Sunset Beach lobby (or really, anywhere down the hill). Coming back up was another story - those hills are steep! For the most part the shuttles worked great - they usually arrived within 5 or 10 minutes of calling.

RESORT
We participated in the all-inclusive so spent a fair amount of time at Sunset Beach. It's really a gorgeous resort. There are beautiful flowers everywhere and the architecture is so pretty. The lobby was decorated for Christmas and was stunning.

SB is on a really steep hill so they whisk everyone around on golf carts. It got old by the end of the week, but they were convenient and we rarely had to wait.

The pools are really nice, but I thought the water was too cold (I'm a wimp though). They're deep - even the kids pool was at least 4-5' deep with no real shallow end. We had breakfast by the kids pool one day and the food was actually really good - we should have done that more often.

FOOD
We ate at Cibola, the Market, Nau, Quivera, room service, Frida, and the pool. Cibola was great - nice but not stuffy, very good food, very good service, good location and views. We had lunch there twice and dinner 3 times. Two dinners were the themes so had an upcharge (surf 'n turf and prime rib) but we felt like it was worth it. We ordered off the menu one night and really loved all of the dishes. Frida - it was good, the service was ridiculously attentive. We had a nice bottle of wine and the decor is really beautiful. The Mexican coffee was my favorite part - what a presentation - and better than an Irish coffee. The Market is great for a quick lunch or snack. It's actually quite nice, we had iced coffees with Bailey's a few times, salad, and yummy gelato. Nau was good as well - we scored tables outside overlooking the beach both times and really enjoyed the view. They have an incredible pozole on their Sunday brunch - it's a must try.

A few in our group golfed and ate at Quivera and raved about it. The course itself is very challenging, but the experience was fun and the food in the restaurant and along the course is excellent.

SERVICE
Karen was our concierge. I've never had this level of service before and it was really great. We could text her and she would arrange reservations or trips, or just answer questions. So nice to just have someone to go to. When we wanted to arrange a sailing trip she came by the villa to go over our options and had it scheduled in a few minutes. She was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.

Glitches
We had to wait 2-3 times for 30+ minutes for a shuttle. That's way too long to stand around on a vacation just getting around your hotel. The most annoying part was that the golf carts that carry you around Sunset Beach cannot go off property to Montecristo. So you have to get a golf cart to take you to the Market, and a shuttle van to take you to your villa. And vice versa. They could definitely streamline that.

Our villa had two dryers and no washing machine. I didn't notice until the last day, and they weren't able to get a washer before we left (Karen offered to have our laundry sent out at no charge).

The TV's worked sporadically. Sometimes one would get all the channels, but the next time you turned it on it would only get a few. Maintenance was usually able to fix them quickly.

We had a photographer scheduled to take family photos and had planned to just use the beach. Unfortunately security wouldn't let him in, even though I had notified them in advance that he was my guest. Apparently they have an exclusive agreement with a photographer on the property. Had I known this I likely would have just booked with them, but they don't advertise it anywhere. We ended up having to take a taxi to the front gate (yes, it's that far - at least a mile or two) for $10 to meet him and go to a different beach. Karen was instrumental in navigating the situation, but the resort could have handled it better.

We assumed that the restaurant selection for the AI plan included all the restaurants (and knew of the upcharges), but it turns out that half of them don't allow children at dinner. Our dinner options were limited to Cibola, Nau (buffet), Market (essentially a high-end cafeteria), a diner of sorts, the Japanese and the Asian restaurant. So, for a sit-down dinner, that's not Asian food, Cibola is it. Not everyone in our group liked Asian. No kids at Frida, and no kids at dinner at Quivera. Even the other resorts have age restrictions at dinnertime for the sit-down restaurants. Would really like to see more dining options for families.

All in all we all had a wonderful trip. We loved Cabo and the resort and hope to return!

Room Tip: There is construction around the resort due to the tropical storm - don't be afraid to ask for a different room!

Had very "high altitude" villa for the weekend, and it was a most impressive view. The Jacuzzi was warm and wonderful, and the pool was also great. It was impressive to have those amenities for each villa. Also, the cart service up and down the mountain was always prompt and friendly. Lastly, changes that needed to be made at the last moment were handled well.

The villa was well stocked with supplies, but could have used an "introductory portion" of coffee and water for those arriving late at night but wanting those items early in the AM. Charging for them would be fine, I'm sure, for the clientele visiting.

Food - as we ordered room service one evening - was terrific. Nachos were fabulous with generous adds of jalapeños, cheese, salsa, etc. The desserts - carrot cake and cheesecake - were awesome. Prices for room service were most reasonable.

Room Tip: Villas high up are obviously offering fabulous views of the ocean! And, are quiet.

We been going to Pueblo Bonito for 10 years and at the Monte Cristo Estate for the last four and the service still exceed our expectation. The Concierge Raul Galeana exceeded our expectation from the day we first contacted him through email. We enjoyed deep sea fishing, jet skiing and ATV riding and all made possible by Raul. The unit was outstanding and the customer service from check in to the housekeeping was beyond what my guest expected. Check in is much easier and I must agree the New Market Place is awesome! We are already planning next year visit.

Room Tip: Dual sleeping and living room area gave us personal space if needed. (we didn't)
