As someone who likes to travel outside of the box, I was reluctant to even pass through this place... but price made the air fare a good lure. One thing lead to another and we ended up taking a boat tour out Land's End. There, lo & behold we saw a very classic pair of sea lions pirch on a rock, noses in the air bellowing their delight at life, despite being surrounded by small boats and even a couple of seados (noisey) that were right up against their rack ( I will post a pic). The population of California Sea Lions here seems to have become acustom to tourists, just as has the local human population. It may not be the ideal environment, but the fact that they are still here, perhaps makes the place worth the visit.

This was our second trip to Finisterra with our toddler. We caught a water taxi on the beach in front of El Dorado resort (Medano Beach). The cost was $12 per adult and the baby rode for free. Some vendors have kids' life jackets available but you have to ask for them. From the glass-bottom boat we saw reef fish, the sea lion colony, and the Finisterra arch. This year we added a stop at Lovers' Beach and waded around a small point toward a very cool, pleasant cave where the baby had a great time playing in the sand and my husband did some free-climbing on the rocks (be very careful though - they are crumbly)! You can also walk from Lovers' Beach to Divorce Beach on the pacific side, where there is a trailhead for an uphill hike in the protected nature area. The terrain is rough, however, and there's a scramble to the peak. So this hike is not something to attempt without proper footwear and plenty of water. Also, be advised, at Lovers' Beach you may be offered assistance from some enterprising gentlemenin getting out of the boat and through the surf -- a cash tip is expected if you accept the help.

A tour operator at the airport informed us that to come to Los Cabos without visiting the arch would be like visiting Disneyland without visiting Mickey Mouse. Therefore, we set aside a half-day to visit the arch, Lover's Beach, and Divorce Beach. We arrived at the marina at approximately 9:30am. Because it was early in the morning, there were few water taxis, or as the case may be, very few tour operators soliciting water taxi services.

We found Tomas, who offered to provide a short tour and roundtrip transportation to and from the beach in his glass bottom boat. The cost for the two of us for $15. We thought this was a good deal, considering it would be just the two of us in the water taxi. Tomas showed us Pelican Beach, Lover's Beach, Divorce Beach, the famous arch, the window to the Pacific, sea lion rock, and the man's face in the side of a particular rock formation. Tomas volunteered to take our picture a couple of times during our ride, which was greatly appreciated.

It is important to note that depending on the size of the waves, you may or may not be able to visit Lover's Beach. Tomas warned us that due to the crashing waves, it would be dangerous for him (and for us) if he dropped us off at Lover's Beach, and because of the tide, the waves would only grow as the afternoon wore on. Therefore, we visited Pelican Beach instead, which was much calmer. The water taxi operator will ask you how long you want to stay at the beach (in one hour increments) and he or she will pick you up at the desired time. We opted to stay only for an hour, which was perfect for us. Since it was early, we enjoyed having the beach almost completely to ourselves. When we were picked up at 11:00am, the beach had become more crowded.
