“Miguel at the Ridge Rocks, the Buffets not so much”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

Perfect location, beautiful resort, but the buffets were horrible. Would not recommend getting the all inclusive, as the alcohol they use by the pool was so watered down, it was next to impossible to even get tipsy. There was really only one restaurant that was worth going to. However Miguel at the Ridge made our stay wonderful, and for his service alone, I would most definitely go back!!!!

We ended up walking over to the Playa Grande Resort to check out the view. I can safely say that it has one of the most breath taking views I have ever seen. Walking up to the Ridge section was really a treat with all of the infinity pools and hot tubs. We are planning on staying here next time we are in Cabo.

I read many reviews of Cabo resorts before selecting Playa Grande via RCI. Most reviews were complimentary and a few had warning signs. We decided the Playa Grande location was worth the gamble and we hit the jackpot. Playa Grande treated us first class from the minute we arrived. No problems on a Saturday afternoon with early registration. We were even able to switch rooms at the front desk to a higher floor overlooking the pools, beach and Sea of Cortez. The resort is spread out but easy to get your bearings. Before our trip we enjoyed reading the reviews so I want to attempt to pass on some key tips. (1) Airport customs and exit - Customs was very easy to clear at the airport. There are several lines so look out for the shortest one. Once you leave customs and are on the way out of the airport building DO NOT TALK TO ANYONE UNTIL YOU GET OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING WHERE THE DRIVERS ARE WAITING. Remember that for once you leave the customs area and turn the corner you will be ATTACKED by the very aggressive timeshare salesmen. They are in a separate room but still inside the terminal. Keep walking until you are completly outside on the back porch/waiting area where you will look for your transportation company (2) Transportation from the airport to the Playa Grande - the Trip Advisor Forum covers several ways to arrange transportation. We did not want to ride in a shared van and stop for other passengers to get off at their hotels so we decided to use Cielto Lindo private transportation. What a pleasant experience and the price was the best we could find. Round trip private aiport transportation for three adults was $136. The driver met us with a cooler filled with beer and water. In addition, the driver only charged us $20 extra to stop at a grocery store on the way to our hotel. At the end of the week, the driver was right on time to pick us up at our hotel, with refreshments. (3) Restaurants - Seafood: Maro's Shrimp Factory; Authentic Mexican: Maria Corona Restaurant; Italian: Salvatores; Bar Food along the Marina: Soloman's Landing, Cabo Cantina Sports Bar, EcoBar; Bars: EcoBar and Cabo Cantina Sports Bar along the Marina. (4) Playa Grande is about a 10 minute walk to the large Marina where there are plenty of places to eat and drink. Safe walk in the daytime or at night along the Marina or the restaurant areas outside of the Marina area. (5) Pool chairs - As with most resorts people get up early and lay claim to a chair by putting a towel on it. We found that if you don't lay your towel out by 8 AM each day you will not get a "preferred" seat with a view of the ocean, poolside or with an umbrella. In short, Playa Grande was a very nice resort with extremely courteous and professional staff.

We stayed at Playa Grande for a week on March 17th and just returned. The resort is had spectacular views and the environment felt calm and relaxed. From the moment we were at the resort we felt at home and were treated with respect and admiration by the staff. Our room had a great ocean view in building L on the third floor. This is a cashless resort so everthing is billed to your room. We did not choose the all inclusive rate of $79 per person per day. We choose to cook our own breakfast and ate in town as this was not only cheaper but we got to experience great food. No worries as most places use purified ice and water but if in doubt ask for bottle water. Most everyone speaks English but if you try and communicate in Spanish all the locals appreciate the effort of trying to learn their language. It seems that all of the staff want you to enjoy yourself and yes they are working for your tips.
There many opportunites for excursions so I would recommend you book some activites with the hotel. We booked ATV tour, Glass bottom boat, Cabo deluxe tour, and sunset cruise.
If you need to phone home dont't use the hotel phone as this is very expensive. Instead go down the street to the local OXXO which is like a local mini mart and use their phone. It is about 40 cents a minute (50 pesos) and you have a meter telling you how long you have been on phone and the cost. Never use your credit card to make phone calls or you can end up paying some hefty unregulated phone surcharges. Also the OXXO has some beverages and snacks to purchase that is much cheaper than the resort.
If you want a taxi it is about $5.00 one-way or you can walk down the street and use the local buses that seem to run about every minute for about 17 pesos which is about $1.30 for two people. The local buses are easy to use as they will stop almost anywhere along their route. If you want you can also walk to downtown in about 10 minutes also.
Once again great staty and staff. We had Chuey the bellman who was very helpful, the check in person Ceaser gave us an amazing room building L with ocean view, Pauula the Conciege book our excursions, and the entertainment staff was wonderful. I do recommend Mexican Fiesta night it is worth it.

Room Tip: Any room that is at least the third floor should have a good view

My group of friends and I just got back from 7 days at the Playa Grande, we have little to no complaints and will definitely return soon. Alejandro at the bell stop hooked us up from the start and made us feel more than welcome, the maid service did a great job all week long. Rooms were excellent, pools and beach access are second to none. Our favorite part of the trip was hanging out with the event/activity staff. They were great about keeping ping pong, pool and beach volleyball going, Rodrigo, Mayrbi, Hector, Roberto, Miriam, and Cristina became good friends during the week and our trip wouldn't have been complete with out them. They also did a great job on the mexican fiestas and the beach party, Roberto is hilarious and everyone should attend at least one event during their stays. -TJ and Emily from TX

We visited Playa Grande in March of 2012. We stayed at the Ridge. It was a little windy and chilly at times, but absolutely top notch! Two infinty pools and views thT will take your breath away... The staff was hardworking and knowledgable. We visited with a lot of new and interesting people, spent many hours in the hot tub. We were able to walk into town, saving money on cab fees. The room was huge! It had a king size master bedroom, Murphy bed, single bed pull out and double bed couch. It has a full kitchen (no oven). The restaurant downstairs wasn't the best, but the food at the poolside ridge restaurant was lovely! The views were amazing! We also had a couples massage at the spa that was really romantic and great quality. Going back next year, for sure!
