We have been coming to Casa Dorada for 4 to 5 weeks per year for six years. The management and staff are most welcoming and gracious. Many seem like family to us. The location is wonderful as you can walk to the marina, town and restaurants. The hotel itself is very well appointed and maintained and every room has a world class view of the Sea of Cortez and the famous rocks which appear in almost any photo depicting Cabo

Room Tip: All rooms have an ocean view

I must state to start that I prefer small, quiet resorts and Casa Dorada is certainly not that. In my opinion, it is a 3+/4 star property that charges 5 star prices ($1,000 per night week between Christmas and New Year's). The hotel sits right on Medano Beach, which is a very swimable beach. But, almost on the property are the Omega Sports Bar, the Mango Deck and The Office (all beach bars) which reminded me of the bars I used to go to in Fort Lauderdale during my college days in the 80s. Music blaring all day long with a guy on a loudspeaker mc'ing some kind of bikini contest etc. I found the scene to be terribly annoying but I must say my 23, 20 and 18 year old kids thought it was a blast. Other pros/cons follow:

Pros:

Rooms are large, well appointed with ocean views and balcony;
Staff, across the board, couldn't have been more friendly (service itself was ok);
Well done New Year's Eve Party by the pool (although became a cash bar at 12:01 am);
Preferential tee times at Cabo Real Golf Club, a very nice course;
Very professional and helpful concierge;
Pool area is nice (and quieter as compared to beach).

Cons:

Incessant pushing to listen to or tour timeshare opportunity to the point where you wanted to sock the guy in the nose. One day we were followed from the elevator down to the pool by one trying to sell us on a tour and free breakfast. Learn to take no for an answer.

The beach is a disaster. The so-called "private beach club" is a small area nestled between the bars. 3-4 rows of lounges one on top of another. Peddlers galore - some even ignore the rope meant to keep them out and tap you on the shoulder while you're trying to rest. And there must be some kind of arrangement with the cruise ships to allow passengers to use the beach if they come over for a timeshare tour. Royal Caribbean and Carnival bags were abundant on the lounges when the ships were in port.

Noise from abutting bars made for anything but a relaxing experience;

Food was mediocre at best. Had one lunch and one dinner at 12 Tribes. On both occasions, one or more of the orders were wrong and the food came out cold. There are many terrific restaurants to go to off property which are a far better bet.

In summary, if you're looking for a quiet, Ritz Carlton- like experience, Casa Dorada is not for you.

Room Tip: Rooms to the left of the lobby are preferable. Stay away from rooms to right of lobby that are right next to loud beach bars.

This was our second time to the resort. First was a couple years ago and last was a couple of months ago. This place keeps getting better and better. The location is awesome with the Mango Deck, the office, and the Hacienda. Right on the beach and lots to do. I have to give a special shout out to "Cristian Cardoso" - Manager On Duty. The guy is awesome. He took care of us the first night for something out of his control and then followed up with amazing service for the rest of our stay. Christian also found an electronics store that either had a battery for my Note 4 or could repair it on very short notice. It is so nice when you have someone you can get this level of help from while you are in another country. He went above and beyond and we look forward to going later in the year. Thanks buddy!

All was good and right here. Food, staff, pool, the entire "Tamale!"

We love this place. No complaints whatsoever. Being centrally located near the Marina allows for easy access to restaurants in the area. Good recommendations from the staff about local places to eat.
