“Club Casa Dorado Spa and Golf Resort - Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2008

There seems to be so little information regarding Club Casa Dorado, so I decided to include my experience. We traded our Marriott Aruba Surf Club timeshare week through Interval International for Club Casa Dorado. This was our first time in Cabo and we wanted to make sure we got good value for our week. We were very pleased with the room we booked. We booked a one bedroom suite for 3 adults and a child. There is plenty of room to spread out with two full bathrooms and four closets.

Interval does not really give this property its due. It is listed as a Gold Crown Resort, but does only offers 3 pictures, the golf course, the main entrance of the hotel, and view of the bed.
To reiterate a previous review, Club Casa Dorado is a group of 90+ rooms on the same property as the Los Cabos Hilton Spa and Golf Resort located in the tourist corridor. To a guest, the arrangement between Club Casa Dorado and the Hilton is seamless. The check-in and concierge services are done at the same desk. The timeshare uses all of the amenities of hotel (pools, spa, fitness center, restaurants, etc.). The bonus is that as a timeshare guest you get a 20% off card on all food and drinks (other than the Deli).

Depending on the type of vacation experience you want to have, you can either go with a timeshare unit or the Hilton traditional hotel room. Casa Dorado offers everything from a Jr. Suite (microwave and small fridge) to a 2 bedroom penthouse suite (full kitchen) ($280 - $780 per night) summer offpeak rates. Hilton is ranging ($249 -$344 per night) summer offpeak for (1 bedroom ocean view room without the coffee maker and other appliances.
As a timeshare if you want to save more on food and drinks then hit the local Wal-Mart, Costco or Mega.

The resort is, one of the best Hilton has to offer, so you will have a beautiful hotel. I was told while there that this property is owned by the same group that owns the Beverly Hills Hilton. There are two pools, a larger infinity pool and a more narrow 'S' shaped pool. Each pool has a swim up bar that is open until 6:00 PM. They both offer some of the best sushi I have ever tried. Try the local specialty a smoked marlin roll. They also serve more traditonal Mexican cuisine with a resort twist such as shrimp or fish tacos and shrimp burritos. The outdoor beds and wooden recliner beach chairs by the pool with umbrella are a very nice touch. There are also palapas by the beach that are available if you want to relax by the ocean.

If you have children age 4 and above, you can take advantage of the complementary Kids Club that the Hilton offers from 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM. The Kids Club has a dedicated person on staff that offers supervised structured activities throughout the day and offers the kids a gathering spot to make new friends.

The beach was rough, and most people never ventured down past the pool. However if you do go, it offers lots of adventure. The waves in the ocean are big which makes it swimable only by the experienced. The sand is coarse and is extremely hot during the day so bring beach sandals. There are a few vendors on the beach who aren't overbearing but offer everything from jewelry, wave runner rides, to even ocean side massages.

We tried all of the restaurants on the property with the exception of Fenicia the semi-formal restaurant. The service and food were all very good and lead to us half of the trip staying in for breakfast/lunch/dinner. The breakfast buffett is quite extensive and is priced accordingly ($32 before the 20% discount), but is worth the trying. I mentioned the sushi and seafood tacos previously. Happy Hour is from 5:00 - 6:00 in the main indoor bar Lavista. However we preferred the bartenders and service by the pool.

I hope this helps anyone looking to trade to this location. I believe you will enjoy your vacation at this location.

We booked our room for a week through Interval International, never being to Cabo we hoped we would choose a good condo, what we got was more than we expected.

The hardest part was knowing where we were going. I know that sound strange but besides the 3 pictures on the Interval website and the code DOR we knew nothing more. We knew it had something to do with the Hilton, but we did not know if it was on the same property but in its own area, or a part of the hotel itself (it is a wing of the hotel).

If you can book this I highly recommend it. At a price of usually around $350 to $500 per night for the Hilton Hotel rooms, using your timeshare here is a great bargain. The bonus was that as a time share guest you get a 20% off card on all food and drinks (besides the sundry/Deli). I don't know if that is ongoing, I would call before booking. I suggest the sundry for your beer needs which averaged about 3 bucks a can vs. the bar where even with your discount runs about 5.00 a bottle. (All prices will be USD). As a timeshare if you want to save more on food and drinks then hit the local Wal-Mart, Costco or Supermarket. A note that if you are in the Jr. Suite which we were you have a mini fridge, sink dishes and microwave. You will need a 2 bedroom to be able to really cook.

The resort is, as the price indicates, one of the best Hilton has to offer, so you will have a beautiful hotel. The pools (there are 2) are great (if a bit warm by mid day and beyond) there is an infinity pool and each pool has a bar on it. The pool area is nicely landscaped with palms and grass. The chairs are wood with high end cushions; the outdoor beds are very comfortable as well. There was never an issue getting a chair, but if you want a good view you want to be out before 9 to stake your place. There are plenty of umbrellas for shade when you need them and the staff is quite helpful to bring you more if you need one.

I loved the swim up sushi bar on the smaller pool. They served starting at 11 AM and while it was odd having sushi in Mexico in a pool, it was good. Get the rainbow roll, it is a dollar more than the California and while the $12 California roll is very over priced, the $13 rainbow is about what pay for them in most sushi bars I go to.

The spa is good and has all the usual treatments, I would prefer the lounge area to face the ocean as opposed to the highway, but that was my only complaint. My wife and I enjoyed are treatments.

The beach was rough, but swim able, like most in this area be careful of riptides and strong currents. The sand was very rough on your feet and most people did not spent much time there. That being said it was a large beach and has plenty of chairs.

The food at the resort was great, while pricey but again, you have to expect that from a resort of this level. We enjoyed the French toast (off the menu, not the buffet).

The issues you might have with this hotel is that it is booking corporate groups and that being said, there is almost always a group taking up a pool, or set up with a dinner on the beach. While this does not take away from the stay, be careful to book your spa appointments as soon as you book your room, or when you first get to the resort. As a person who used to travel with these groups, they will take up all the spa appointments so make sure you get yours if that is your thing.

The larger issue is two fold. According to staff and some of the actual timeshare owners, the hotel is going to change to a Waldorf Astoria, akin to a JW Marriott, they are going after even higher end clientele, which should mean higher prices for ,well, everything. With that changeover they are trying to drive the timeshare owners out of the building, so they will have more rooms to sell. Most owners have seen the other Casa Dorada which is on the Main beach in Cabo, right by the bar called "The Office". That location, while not bad for what it is, is not the idyllic location that this offers. Comparing the properties is like comparing a great steak to a chicken sandwich, they might both be good, but they are completely different. That being said, to all the owners out there that might read this, DO NOT SELL!!! If you do, let me know! Since there are about 2,000 owners, it will be a while for them to buy everyone off, so until then, trade and get there and enjoy the good life!

In the end, I hope this helps anyone looking to trade to this location. I know that I could not find anything about this resort, and I wanted to make sure when I got back that I could share information that is lacking on this great resort.
