Booked the Victory after a recommendation from a close friend and I have to say that overall we were impressed.

Arrived early on the Saturday, popped in to ask if it was OK to leave our car in the car park (and go for a walk) but as the room was free, we were allowed to check in early. Unfortunately they had forgotten the bunch of flowers I had ordered when booking but I'm not going to mark them down. The reason is the way they reacted to this i.e. whilst they couldn't get exactly what was ordered, they went above and beyond to ensure I was happy. As the flowers were a surprise I said not to worry but undeterred they had a lovely bunch of flowers, a bottle of sparkling wine and an abundance of scones, cream and jam waiting in the room on our return. The way we react when things go wrong (and we all know that things do as we are only human) is when we see people at their best.

The room was lovely, clearly time and effort had gone into it's refurbishment and it had a private balcony with bench, something to be enjoyed on a hot summers day/night. Bathroom was lovely and having spent a fair amount of time in hotels over the years, the shower was luxurious.

We had room number 5 and during the day (up until 9pm at night) there is constant vibration in the wall to the left of the door as you walk in the room, accompanied by a droning noise. Decided to check the following morning what this was and realised it's the ducting from the kitchen, assume this must be connected to extractors. Bolted to the outside of the wall of the bedroom....could probably do with some form of dampeners. Not a problem during the day if you are out exploring though.

Obviously undergoing a lot of refurbmishment but this didn't cause us any problems. Yes, we had to walk behind the bar on arrival but we could just have easily walked around to the back. Certainly a talking point but not a complaint.

Overall this is a great hotel.

Booked 3 of the newly renovated rooms facing the sea - really great especially Room 1 with the magnificent bathroom
Room was totally silent as well - we didn’t hear anything from the pub below
tasty breakfast as well
Sure the bar area will be just as nice once work has finished
Would recommend for a break in Mersea

No1 large room with spacious bathroom and sea view- but the extractor fan is on 24 hrs a day. hopefully this will change.
Good breakfasts and helpful, friendly staff.
Great location opposite the Oyster bar.

Room Tip: Room 1 is spacious with large bathroom - but the wifi does not reach that far.

We stayed here in our motorhome for our first night with Brit Stops.
We had a nice meal and the young lady that had just started working there was lovely. She chatted away and made us feel very welcome. She told us a bit about the local area and we will definately return.

Room No.8 was a nice basic room but we had no sleep!
There is a room above this and the stairs are enclosed in No. 8, you can hear every sound, it was very noisy and the walls are very thin and floorboards creaked. The people above had been drinking in the bar and became very noisy late at night.
