We started visiting this property back in 2014 and we would return over and over again. Here's why...

1. They allow dogs- when you have an 86lb dog that isn't allowed in most places, finding a place that allows them is priceless.
2. It's a quiet, get away from technology kind of place. If you looking for wifi or to watch movies, this isn't the place for you.
3. It's privately owned and the owner is always on property- We LOVE to support small businesses so this is a huge plus for us.
4. They have great annual groupons that makes a weekend away much more affordable.
5. The river is just beautiful. We love the area. It's so peaceful and quiet.
6. You can see the stars...how can it get any better right?
7. The trip is a joint effort- I will explain below.
8. and finally, they always have pedal boats and canoes which are fun. And they usually offer 3 hours of activities with their groupon. So you can paddle boat or take a motorized boat for a ride. And they have more than enough life jackets to go around.

These are the reasons we return but here are some things you need to know.
1. It is in the middle of nowhere and there is a rough patch of road that leads to it. An SUV is suggested but if you take it slow, it really isn't that bad.
2. Since you are in the mountains by a lake/river there are bugs. It's the country, be prepared and bring some bug spray.
3. As i'm sure you have read there are no showers, just jacuzzi tubs in the bathrooms but this is a plus in my opinion.
4. Food is a bit overpriced so we don't eat here. We bring all of our food prepared and in coolers and we eat at our little patio table they provide us. Some guests drove into town to eat which is about 20 minutes away. We like to prepare our food like we are going on a picnic, it just makes our stay more enjoyable and affordable.
5. Wifi? It's there, in the main lobby. if you absolutely have to have it. It's super slow but your supposed to be relaxing so who cares right? But to be honest we had zero issues with cell phone service so theres always your high speed cellular data to the rescue.
6. TV? It's there, and super small and most channels are in french- but I go back to relaxation time remember? We only turned the tv on once in our 3 stays and not for long.
7. Food? we have eaten breakfast there 2x. First time was great, they had eggs and some really awesome bacon, second time was more like a continental breakfast. We were told it was a bit pricey for what it was by other guests. We never had dinner here. They don't serve lunch.
8. Air conditioning? Doesn't exist. They do have fireplaces in each room so it must be warm in the winter (we have only traveled here in the summer). But the room was never "too hot".

All in all we like this place to go unplug and relax. Their spas are lacking and if they upped their game in this department we would go more often. They have hammocks up by the main house but they also have some on the river bank. You just have to follow the signs. They have plenty of places to sit and they have a game room and plenty of board games in the main house.

We look forward to our next trip :)

-The country road to reach there was absolutely terrible, bumpy and I believe its ridiculous the owner does not salt or sand it, there is no warning about this road, low rise cars will tear off their bumpers trying to reach the hotel.

-while the hotel itself is beautiful and the room we stayed in was very comfortable, the walls are paper thin you could hear conversations in the other room.

-I did not have a problem with the jacuzzi outside, the sauna advertised is basically smoke and not steam, youll probably suffocate if you close yourself in it.

-for those who are afraid of animals or are allergic, be aware they do have a family dog who lives and moves freely on the premises, very friendly however should be mentioned somewhere

-lastly, the service was completely terrible. I found that i was a nuisance to the owner and his wife when id have a question. They were rude and did not speak english to my anglophone boyfriend who doesn’t speak french like i do.

Overall, I wouldn’t return unfortunately, i am not a picky person and all of these details would have been overlooked if the hospitality and service was worth these troubles. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

My wife found a deal for Auberge Couleurs de France, which included a one-night stay, and a hour of snowmobiling.

Here are our impressions:

- The resort is a bit remote and on a long and windy side road. Our trip was in mid-January, after a bit of a mild-spell so it was not too bad. If you are visiting in more severe winter conditions it could be a more treacherous drive, but probably OK with the right vehicle.

- Staff are super friendly and helpful. Most of the staff speak English quite well.

- They don't give you a key to your room by default, but will happily do so if asked

- We had room 10 in lower level of the main lodge. It wasn't the best for several reasons. First it's located directly under the dining room, so in the morning you may be woken up by the sound of people walking above you during breakfast, and in evening you also get the same noise. Also, it's right next door to an exercise room which includes a kids trampoline, and there were some noisy kids there at times. If these might be concerns for you, better to ask for a room in one of the other lodges, or not in the lower level.

- Bathroom walls in the room did not reach the ceiling, so you will hear everything. Plus during the night the lights from the bathroom may wake up your partner.

- The lodge and rooms are nicely decorated and attractive - rustic but modern touches.

- Our room had a large jetted tub which was nice for a relaxing couples soak

- Snowmobiling was fun with trails close to the Auberge

- Restaurant was OK. Dinner was reasonably priced with quite a few Table D'Hote options. The food was good, but nothing too special and could use a more sides included (e.g. fresh veggies). Breakfast buffet OK, but not creative (canned fruit, yogurt, etc)

- WiFi not great. Could not get Netflix to work.

- We enjoyed the trip, and had fun for a winter getaway. I imagine it would make a nice weekend trip in the summer or fall was well

Room tip: Avoid basement room in main lodge

What an awkward place. Firstly the drive in was a drive from hell on that 5 minute driveway with HUGE rocks I was getting so frustrated it was very unpleasant especially since I was in a compact car and wasn't warned of this. Plus it's in the middle of nowhere I was starting to believe the place just didn't exist cause it was taking so long to get up there! The car was filthy after that drive up and we were being followed by horse flies the entire time, they were actually everywhere it was such a mission to get in and out of our cars cause we were getting attacked by them it was honestly disgusting any time you leave the area it's horse fly madness and really annoying for a getaway that's supposed to be relaxing. Also when you walk in the check in counter isn't obvious cause it's all the way at the back where the restaurant is so that was weird. When we got to our room there was a poo in the toilet as a nice welcoming gift. We tried flushing it but it got clogged so that was a great first impression. We told the lady and she moves us to the room next door (number 10). It was a cute room with a nice view. We had the hammocks right outside our bedroom which we thought was awesome until we realized those were the only 4 hammocks on property so people kept coming into our patio area to use them so it was just annoying to keep seeing people from our window... I feel like every room should just have their own. Also we were right under the restaurant so we heard literally everything which bothered me it seemed like people were litterally having a stomp party. The Wi-Fi is so bad and there isn't a shower just a really fancy bathtub so that was weird but it was fine. We also found it super strange that they didn't give us any room keys so we went to go ask for some. I guess it's an open concept but still they should offer the keys anyway right from the start. The food in the little town was pretty good, but it's also really basic food. Honestly there's really nothing to do unless you wanna get attacked by horse flies. It was fine cause me and my boyfriend just played games and laughed about the awkwardness of our getaway and got to spend some time together, But we both agreed that there is no way we are going back there... way too unusual.

My mom and I stayed here for 4 days. We were given the suite facing the lake with its on private balcony with beautiful views!
The estate is beautiful. You are surrounded by forests and a large, clean lake.
The owners are helpful and hardworking; they keep the place clean and well groomed.
I will definitely return!

Room tip: Lake view, but all rooms are lovely.
