We just arrived back last night from this resort and can highly recommend it.

This was our first trip with our two year old and as most parents were concerned as to how our little guy would enjoy the trip. We enrolled him in the Petit Club and would drop him off in the morning and pick him up in the afternoon. The staff at the Petit Club are absolutely amazing. Our little guy is a wall flower and is not always the easiest to deal with but the staff there took great care of him and did their best to get him involved in all the activities. When we had told them that our little guy loved the "theme song" of Club Med, "Hands Up", they went out of their way to get a copy of it to play in the Petit Club for him. Parents should be rest assured that their kids are in great hands.

In regards to rooms I would recommend for families the Club Room Family. We were located in the Iguana building which is located in the middle between Petit Club and the Mini Club for the older kids. It was very convenient as we could drop our little one off as we were returning to our room from breakfast.

The Club Room Family are two rooms which have now been converted into one. The rooms can be seperated by closing a set of double doors. We had a king size bed in the main room and two single beds in the other. The two rooms share a "jack and jill" bathroom. Families with young children should be aware that these rooms do not have bath tubs so showers are the only option.

The resort was only about 1/3 full for the majority of our stay but was certainly filling up on the last two days of our stay.

The weather was great the first three quarters of the trip with clouds and periods of drizzle towards the end. When the rain appeared the staff were quick to put out umbrellas for people to use as well as putting out various board games in the main bar to help pass the time.

Overall we had a great time at this resort and are planning to come back in the fall with a group of family memebers.

The only areas that could improve are as follows:

1.) When we arrived at the airport in Ixtapa we were not met by a representative from Club Med. It was not until we asked around at the taxi stands that a gentleman went inside and enquired at a desk about our transfer to Club Med. The person at the desk was aware of the transfer and we were placed in a cab and driven to the resort at no charge. As we were the only people going to the resort on our flight I could see that it did not make sense for having a GO come all the way to the airport to meet us but it would have been nice to know in advance that we should go to a specific place to find out about the transfer arrangements.

2.) This is the fourth Club Med property that I have visited and the one thing I noticed is that alcohol and drinks are now served in the restaurant whereas in the past it one would serve themselves. If you wanted some wine you could grab a bottle and bring it back to the table and serve it yourselves. I am assuming that the purpose of this is to avoid either or both over consumption and wastage. Serving is fine but we found that you were offered a drink when you were seated but were not always offered a refill....note: you can still pull your own beer at the drinks area.

3.) We also noted that seating in the restaurants was different at this resort in that you are more often than not being seated at individual tables rather than being seated with other people. We have always enjoyed the almost communal nature of the resorts in the past and meeting new people from around the globe. This was typically done in the restaurants. We hope that this is not a trend that Club Med is heading towards as it is one of the things that make it unique.

PS.

We participated in the botanical tour of the Club Med village and thought that Victor and Vi did a great job and made it interesting.

Our visit to Club Med Ixtapa was a perfect family get away - beautiful accommodations, great food, tons of activities for the kids (aged 5 and 18 mos at the time of our visit) and lots for us to do and enjoy while the kids were off having fun. I played tennis every morning - amazing instruction and great courts - and enjoyed the pool and all of the facilities (including the spa) each afternoon. Meeting up with the kids at the end of their day was great - a family event marked the end of each Club Day for the kids and they were eager to share what they had done and show off their crafts or skills or achievements. Our older son learned how to do the flying trapeze, make sushi and participated in a great show one evening. We were relaxed (which is a tall order on a family vacation!) and would absolutely return.

My wife and I went with our 2 year old daughter and just got back a week ago. Club Med Ixtapa is the ultimate vacation to take with small children! We had the most amazing time!
We used the petit day care some days and our daughter loved it. It was staffed by the greatest childcare professionals and well-planned with tons of fun activities. We also brought her back for pajama club, and the nannies put her to sleep, so my wife and I could go out for dinner/drinks/a show every night.
The food was incredible - far exceeded my expectations. The place is really gorgeous and it is totally set up for families. There are small pools and playgrounds. Also, there are tons of really nice families everywhere. The GO staff is really fun and friendly and you are never more than a couple steps away from a bar.

I can't give enough accolades for Club Med Ixtapa. I am just so glad I found it so early on in my parenting. We are definitely going back. This vacation was a tie with our honeymoon!

Room Tip: Higher floors are a little more private.

As avid frequenters of Club Med since the '70s, we have visited many of their properties particularly in Mexico. The Ixtapa Club Med was renovated in 2007 to include an upgraded building that has suites. We have been to this property twice in November (2010) and now in January.

During our most recent stay, we stayed in a suite located in the building called Sol.
This beautiful Pacific coast with a majestic view of the Sierra Madre Mountains is an excellent combination to enjoy a relaxing holiday. Both times that we visited, it was during the dry season and thus it was rare to receive bad or cloudy weather.

If you do not select Club Med transport which includes airfare and airport transfers, you can easily purchase a one-way (official) cab fare immediately to the right once you exit International Arrivals. It will be around $420 pesos for the 30 minute cab ride.

Once you arrive at the village, generally in the afternoon with flights from the US, you should walk the property as an easy method of orientation and of low impact stretching from the cramped airline seats. You will take-in the great landscaping, beach vistas and the various sports facilities-tennis, trapeze, palapa, sailing and restaurants.

The rooms are full of color from décor and painted walls to very modern tasteful Mexican themed furniture. The rooms are spacious and the family rooms even more to accommodate rambunctious yet exhausted children. Our recent stay in a suite (two combined rooms) was comprised of a very spacious separate sitting area and bedroom, a four door access to a semi-circular balcony, a large closet area and splendid bathroom with tub and walk-in shower. The building with these facilities is located at the far end of the property and has its own concierge. These services provide small nice touches like check-in/out services, coordinate tours, dinner reservations on/off-property, premium drinks, breakfast “in-bed” and a variety of snacks and great coffees and teas.

I think that the finest attraction in this quiet location (and removed from town and on the way to Playa Linda) is the beach. It is located across from Ixtapa Island and towards the west you enjoy some fantastic sunsets. Approximately ½ mile or 800 meters long, it makes for a great jogging and a relaxed walking circuit. We would attempt to do it 10 times so as to complete 5 miles and burn off the calories of the white chocolate bread! The ocean on the west coast of Mexico is very different from the Caribbean. The snorkeling is not good but the water is a most refreshing alternative after you are under the hot sun for an hour. The pool is also a great area to relax. During the entire week of January 21st, the weather was excellent with temperatures in the mid to high 80s.

Additional Positives:

- Plenty of food- B/L/D
- The format of the house wine service (though still at no charge) has changed and now they serve it by the glass and if you must request a bottle, it is begrudgingly left at the table. You have the option of buying premium wines with the gratitude of a smiling sommelier.
- A paradise for the over-worked Parents with babies, small children or teens since the active G.O.s will entertain their petites every whim!
- Sports continue to be a strong suite of this property with sailing, trapeze, rock climbing, water gym, and a great class of muscle toning and cardio.
- The chef du village, Flavia is excellent
- And competing with Flavia is the Pain au chocolat blanc…white chocolate bread…divine

As for the off property activities, I would recommend-

- As a golfer, I played at Campo de Golf Ixtapa (formerly Palma Real-) which I reviewed also on Trip Advisor- and would not recommend Ixtapa Marina Golf. The cab ride is only $100 pesos to the club.
- A 10 minute walk to Playa Linda from CM is great since at the end there are small stores where you can buy some mementos. You have two options from the Playa Linda Warf (a) take a 30 peso boat ride to Ixtapa Island-rustic but fun solo excursion or (b) walk the enormous Playa Linda which is incredibly long (while we have visited Mexico many times just be mindful of your surroundings and do things that any prudent traveler would do).
- Conversely, you can walk in the other direction, towards Ixtapa town, using a comfortable ciclopista, which is a good 40 minute walk. Early in the morning 7:30/8:00ish, I saw many locals and tourists taking their morning brisk walks. And if you are tired, you can catch a cab back to CM again for $100 pesos.
- An excursion on the catamaran, Picante, for the snorkeling tour is fun. As mentioned previously the water is okay, but the sailing is great.

All in all, we look forward to our return to Ixtapa and the friendly and welcoming Mexicans.

The Chef de Village and the GOs at Club Med Ixtapa made our visit really wonderful. The weather was wonderful every day, and the rooms were excellent with great beds, shower, and A/C. The food was excellent with fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish every day. The chef Sheik provided great variety so we enjoyed Mexican, Brazilian, Japanese, Indian, French, Italian, and Moroccan dishes as well as all the dishes that the children love. We enjoyed a variety of cooking classes and dance classes as well as trapeze, tennis, and the beautiful never-crowded shaded beach. Many thanks to Flavia and her amazing team (Nicholas at El Encanto, Antonio at the beach bar, Behind the scenes with Leticia, Cesar, & Rafa, Chucho on the trapeze, and many others) for making this a great 3-generation family trip!

Room Tip: There are rooms that are great for parents and kids. The rooms sleeping areas can be closed off from each other.
