This was our 5th time to Mexico, always staying at the large all inclusives. This year we stayed here and now I don't know if we'll ever go back to the large ones. We never stood in line for any of the restaurants or had to make reservations. What a treat!!!!!!!! if you found a favorite one you could eat at it every night. Being a smaller resort you got to know the other guestssince you passed them all the time.
The staff was wonderful. Day two |Arley knoe our names and if our friends were already seated in the buffet. Abraham was our usual waiter and always wanting to please. You made us feel special, thank-you. Actully I always saw the staff smiling. Too bad that doesn't happen here!
The marina was a 2 minute walk and all the vendore were friendly and not pushy. It was interesting talking with them and finding out where they came from and what it's like living there. We want to move!!!!!
I don't know where people that having given this place a bad review stayed. Not here!

Room Tip: We were on the 7th. We didn't use the bar enough to justify extra cost.

Let me start by saying we have visited the Rivera Maya for the last 12 - 14 years and have stayed at many different resorts there, none were a bad experience some were just better than others. Dreams at Puerto Aventuras is one of the best vacations we have ever had period...

All the staff was very eager to serve and be helpful, food was excellent in the restaurants, beach was kept clean, rooms were spacious and kept very clean, and important for me the beer was cold. This is our 3rd stay at this Dreams and we plan on returning next year because it is close to shopping in the Marina and you couldn't ask for a better place to stay.

Just a few of the staff we found very eager to make you stay more enjoyable are:
Citlale at the Sports Bar, Vidiala, Arely, Jaun at World Cafe, Noe, Cisear and the entire
group at Sea Side Restaurant, waiters and staff at the Itilian and Oceans Restaurants.
If you use these restaurants you can't go wrong.....

To the entire staff, thanks so much for making this one of the best vacations ever...

George & Linda

My husband booked us a week at this resort by accident - but it was the best mistake he ever made! We visited for the week of Feb 11-Feb 18, 2012. It encompassed our anniversary, Valentine's Day and my birthday, so we were ready for some celebrating. I checked out the reviews, and also checked out the FB page of the resort. I emailed back and forth with their e-concierge, Harri, and she was very helpful as to expectations. We had an all-inclusive through Apple Vacations, and we knew it was a family resort, not just couples. There were people there of all ages, and frankly, since we have grandkids, we enjoyed having children around - they were never underfoot, because most of them spent the day in the Kids' Club.

Our trip to Cancun Airport from Philadelphia was about 3 1/2 hours, and it was another hour before we could get through the lines in the airport to get to our van to the resort. Dreams Puerto Aventuras is about 45 minutes south of Cancun. Check in was quick, and our room was ready. We had 319 on the Garden Side, and it was a beautiful room, very quiet, nicely furnished, roomy with a wonderfully comfortable bed, but still close to everything. The minibar was restocked daily with soda, beer and water. There is 24/7 room service, plus both food and drink service on the beach or by the pool. Every afternoon around 2, there are trays of hors d'ouevres served on the beach.

There are two "sides" - there is an adult side with a pool bar, and hot tub. We found it to be very quiet, small, a little stuffy. We liked the opposite side with the kids pool, the group pool, and the ocean. There was always music, the feeling of action - we like that. There were always plenty of chairs and towels - no need to run down there early in the morning to save anything. The beach is small, and stone breakers keep the ocean area fairly shallow and calm. Not really a problem for us. Plenty of room for snorkeling, kayaking if you want. There is a Barefoot beach grill, where daily there are burgers, grilled chicken, hotdogs and often other specialties like paella.

Food and drinks are fabulous. There are many choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No reservations needed, and nothing ever appeared too crowded. We liked the buffet for breakfast - anything you could want, from fruit, to omelets, to mexican breakfast specialities. All of the wait staff, hostesses, bartenders, were efficient and eager to please. By the second day, the hostess knew our names and room number. We liked the Seaside Grill, an outdoor setting near the beach, for lunch. We had shrimp cocktails every day, and I liked the arugula salad with watermelon. I'm on Weight Watchers, and it's so easy to eat healthy here - lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, grilled fish. For dinner, we tried Oceania, Portofino, The Seaside Grill and the buffet - loved them all. The buffet has theme nights - Italian, Mexican, Seafood, Barbecue. Lots of children's choices, desserts, breads. All fresh, and appealing. The bars are fun - lots of specialty cocktails, Corona on draft, fun shots - and lots of fun people to hang out with and share stories.

Entertainment is constant - during the day, lots of beach games, pool classes like water aerobics to music, and poolside, there are classes like making paella or cocktails, or learning Spanish or salsa dancing. Night time there are shows, music in the bar, movies on the beach, on and on. There are many side excursions - we didn't do any this trip, but have done them in the past - the ruins at Tulum, zip-lining, swimming with dolphins, Xel-Ha, etc. You can have a fabulous vacation and never leave the resort.

For our anniversary, there was a banner on our door, and champagne in the room. On Valentine's Day, there were rose petals on the bed, and heart-shaped cupcakes on the pillow. For my birthday, there were balloons in the room. From start to finish, our vacation was fabulous, and we'll definitely return.

Some things I forgot to take - long pants for my husband for Portofino - at other restaurants, shorts are fine. A water camera - so you can get fun pictures in the pool, or at the swim up bar. We took way too many clothes - we were in bathing suits, flip flops and shorts all the time. Internet service costs $60 a week - worth it to keep in touch with our families. There is a spa - services are expensive, and there are extra things like wine, and lobster, which can also be expensive. We had beach photos taken - we had a ton to choose from, $15 each and no pressure to buy. Liliane took great photos. Read the reviews - you'll know what will work for you.

Take dollar bills for tips - the people work really hard and want to please you. You will still get great service if you don't tip, but you make people happy to be recognized when you do. Some stars - Arely, the hostess at the buffet, Israel and Jorge of the entertainment staff, Carlos and Jesus, waiters. Our room was always spotless, and there was turndown service at night. Anything you request will be there within a few minutes.

We have been to many resorts through Mexico, the Dominican, other places in the Caribbean. We loved this vacation! And we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Third floor and up - to avoid the noise by the pool. Garden View is just as nice as ocean view. Yo...

We spent two weeks at Dreams Aventuras in November 2011 and last month 10 days in Dreams Tulum. ( We reviewed Tulum separately). Whilst we really enjoyed our stay at Dreams Aventuras we now are comparing the two properties in a different light.
For us Aventuras is perfectly set up for families. The rooms are a short distance to pools and restaurants, and the beach is great for smaller children to safely play there. It's a short walk into the marina to see the dolphins which breaks up the day a bit.
No question that the day care was a huge hit as we spoke to parents who told us that their kids couldn't get enough of it.
Generally we found the food to be very good, although the buffet is small and sometimes there aren't a lot of choices if allergies are an issue. Portofino had excellent food and we liked Seaside Grill for lunch. Mexican and Oceana were great as well.
Throughout the resort the staff were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble, always with a smile. Our room was on the 6th floor facing the marina and it was lovely with the view always changing with boats coming and going,
Now here's the deal breaker for us. We are retired and like to relax and enjoy the dinner routine. At Dreams Aventuras after dinner, there is nowhere to go to sit and enjoy an after dinner drink. You can't count the sports bar that's for sure, and the Lobby is not all that comfortable to relax in. They really need areas aside from a few bar stools to sit a while and perhaps meet other guests, rather than head back to our room early.
Dreams Tulum certainly meets this requirement as there are lots of areas to go in the evening after dinner or the show.
We would return to Aventuras with our kids and grandkids, however, Tulum would be our choice if we are travelling by ourselves.

Room Tip: Go for the marina view it's way more interesting and quieter than the ocean view.

Very relaxing vacation, wished I would have book more time. Staff was exceptional, always smiling and friendly. Beach is smaller and in a small, calm cove so I would think it would be great to take kids here. The entire Puerto Aventuras area felt very safe. My husband and I did some running around the neighborhoods and felt safe. Food was good, I have a gluten allergy and did not get sick. They easily accommodated me and all of my concerns. Superbowl celebration on the beach was very well done. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: I do wish I'd have booked an ocean view room. We were on the marina side. Nice for sunsets, I...

We have just returned from a week's holiday and have mixed feelings about the experience. The staff of the hotel were great - they all made us feel as if nothing was too much trouble for them, and they were always smiling. The thing that we will remember the best will be the fantastic kids club, which stays open until 10pm so that parents can have a bit of grown-up time. Our kid preferred to have lunch and dinner with the kids club, so we had a lot of time to ourselves. The bar staff were tireless, and kept us all well supplied with our drinks of choice. The wine wasn't great, but that is to be expected at an all-inclusive resort. The bar staff also do a nice line in non-alcoholic diaquiris and chocolate milkshakes for the kids.
We were not so impressed with the accomodation, however. We started off in a Garden View room which was on the ground floor, opening straight out on to the pool area, so not very private. We asked to be moved and were 'upgraded' to a Marina view room on the 2nd floor. This was often noisy as the corridor outside led to the theatre, so we were often disturbed by large groups of people noisily making their way down the corridor. The room did not feel large enough for 3 people - it had two standard double beds, one wasn't big enough for 2 adults to comfortably share, and there was insufficient storage for any clothes or items that couldn't be hung in the wardrobe. The beds were extremely comfortable, however, as long as you didn't have to share them! My husband ended up having to share the 2nd bed with our 4 year old.
We ate in all of the restaurants except the sushi restaurant, and agree with other reviewers that the 'gentlemen must wear long pants' dress code for the Italian Porto Fino restaurant was ridiculous. We could have understood it if the restaurant had been formal, but it was very informal and popular with families. The decor was also, well, weird.
The beach is very small for the size of the hotel, but adequate, and the water is nice and safe for young children, and the fish swim right up to you. The advertised 'sea trampoline' is only for children and did not appear to offer much 'bounce' for kids who attempted to jump on it. There is a marina near the hotel (5 minutes walk) where you can see manatees, dolphins, rays, and sharks. One of the entertainment team will walk you over there if you ask.
The hotel appears to do a brisk trade in weddings - we saw several while we we there, sometimes 2 per day. The hotel therefore had several large groups of wedding guests staying.

We felt that overall, the holiday was very good value for money, considering the variety of food and drink available, the swimming facilities and the amazing Kids Club. Shame about the bedrooms.

Hotel -
The hotel is smaller than most all inclusives we have been to. It is located in a very secure, gated community. A 5 min walk to Puerto Aventuras where you can swim with the dolphins, sea lions, sting rays etc. or just walk around and buy souvenirs, have a drink or a meal or go out on a fishing excursion. We always felt very safe. The staff at this hotel were all great, very friendly.

Beach -
Small beach, and they had tons of chairs on the beach so it felt very crowded. The beach is on a little cove so it is quite protected. It is rocky on the sides, but the beach area is not rocky. Every day they cleaned up the seaweed that was constantly washing up on the beach, but it was quite stormy when we were there so this may have affected it. On the rocky area there is a natural pool where you can see little fish. In the main beach area there are lots of pretty fish and many people fed them with bread from the buffet.

Pool-
We didn't spend much time at the pool because there were very few chairs in the pool area and we were always there too late in the morning to nab one. The pool was not heated and remained quite cold. There is a very large hot tub, more like a pool(warm at best), many people both kids and adults hung out in this pool. There is also an adults pool on the other side of the hotel that had many more chairs, but as we were with our 2 teenagers we did not use this pool. There is a swim up bar at both pools.

Restaurants-
Not as much selection as the Dreams Riviera Cancun, that we went to a couple of years ago. For breakfast there is really only the buffet, which was on the small side, but the omelettes were good, and they also did cooked to order eggs, so it suited our needs just fine. A little disappointed there were no eggs benny like the last Dreams we went to. There is a crepe and waffle bar just outside the buffet, which serves burgers, hot dogs and pizza at lunch time. Otherwise for lunch there is the buffet or the Seaside Grill, Our lunch experience at the Seaside Grill was interesting, we ordered mushroom/swiss burgers, mine came with no mushrooms, they forgot my husbands so he ate about 30 mins after we all finished. For dinner there was... buffet. Mexican, which was the most elegant feeling restaurant. They do a tableside flaming crepes dessert which was fun. The fajitas we tried were very good. Italian, we ate here twice, it was very good. Seaside Grill, was ok but nothing too special. Sushi, my daughter liked the sushi but that is all they serve. Oceana, adults only, we didn't try this one. All the restaurants, though good, had limited menus. Especially for picky teenagers,

Staff-
No problems with the staff. They were all very friendly and willing to do anything for you. We had to call to get something fixed in our room and they were very fast in responding. Room service was also pretty quick. A couple of the staff really stood out with their service.

Room-
I liked the room alot, my husband found them a little small, there was no sitting area. They were lacking in storage space for clothes. We did not have a view of the beach as we faced the marina.

Entertainment-
daytime - fairly low key. There was water aerobics in the morning. There was a ping pong table beside the pool. There is a water sports desk by the beach for divers, snorkelers and they had little sailboats which we didn't get an opportunity to use. We did take bikes (pretty beat up but they did the job) into town one day and it was alot of fun. We rode all over the Puerto Aventuras area.
nightime - we went to a magic show one night and he was ok. we went to a fire show on the beach one night, it was pretty good. other than that we didn't go to any other shows. nightimes were pretty quiet. we usually just went to the bar on the beach for a drink.

All in all it was a good trip. Because of the smallness of the resort we did find the options lacking compared to Dreams Riviera Cancun.

We did not have the best weather, quite a few thundershowers which put a bit of a damper on everything.
