“Quaint, good service, excellent food, Asian decor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2012

When we first arrived, I wasnt sure about this place. At first glance it appears shabby , not the 5 star I was promised after the $7800 price tag we paid. However, the surprise awaits within! We grew to really like this place! It's the little extras like 24 hr room service, variety of restaurant dining, Mexican coffee and treats every day at 4 in the lobby, outstanding service by most, snorkeling in the private cove, family atmosphere, adults only pool, white fine sandy beach!!!!!

Negatives here are that I appreciate fine ambience and decor and this place needs work!! Rooms also are your standard hotel room. Balconies are small. Grounds are nothing special in terms of flowers / beauty. While there r many a tivities going on all day, I thought the adult nightly ac tivities lacked somewhat. Hotel is secluded and beach is small. Fitness room lacks and some machines broken.

Overall this place is a 4 star. They really do try to make your stay great

We just got back from a 4 night trip to Dreams Puerto Aventuras and are none too happy about waking up back home this morning. For reference, we are a family four with kids age 5 and 3.

Upon arrival, there were some maintenance guys in our room who told us a lock wasn't working and would need a day to replace. The hotel immediately changed out our first floor garden view room with a 4th floor ocean view room. No complaints there! Having that view made a HUGE difference and I will likely reserve it for the next trip. The entertainment staff is fantastic. They are very in tune to the kids and there is always something fun going on. They took part in activities likes pottery painting, bungee jumping, beach soccer, and movies on the beach. My 3 year-old boy's highlight was having his picture taken holding a boa constrictor.

Food is always the tricky part when it comes to all-inclusives, and I thought the food at Dreams was very passable. Breakfast each morning was from the buffet, but we usually ate outside. Word of warning, some of the birds can be bold in getting your food scraps so you dont want to leave your food unattended, even for a minute. Lunch was usually outside as well. There was a grill making burgers which were quite good. And at 1:00 every day, they made paella outside. This went fast, and most days I missed it. We have dinner at El Patio, the buffet (Mexican themed when we went) and the sushi bar. The flank steak at El Patio was good, albeit with very slow service. The buffet was what you would expect/ The sushi good, but small portions. One night we took a taxi to Playa del Carmen for some shopping and more of an authentic Mexican dinner (La Mission). As for the bars, they were liberal in their pours.

The beach is somewhat limited here. But while the beach area is small and more of a lagoon, it was protected from the rougher seas of the Caribbean which was good for us and our small kids.

In summary, we loved our stay and so did our kids. I can't say enough of the staff. Our only real complaint is that 4 nights was too short!

Room Tip: Ocean view room (even partial) makes a huge difference.

My wife and I just recently returned from our trip to Puerto Aventuras, Mexico where we stayed at the Dreams resort. To start off, this was an excellent trip! We made sure to book our travel from the airport in Cancun to Dreams as the trek takes about an hour and change, and from previous trips abroad we felt chancing a taxi for such a long trip could be costly. I would suggest looking into the airport travel.

When we drove up to the resort we were immediately greated and our luggage was handled by the bell staff. From there we checked in at the front desk and were handed off to a VIP Concierge. We were given a thourough explanation of how AM Resorts operates and even enrolled in an excursion to the Dreams Tulum, about 30 minutes down the road.

The resort is beautiful. There are two sides - one is an adults only side that looks out onto the marina. There is a swim up bar, a pool, and the Oceanic Seafood Restaurant. The other side is for everyone. And though there were kids at the resort, they were very well behaved and did not detract from our stay at the least. On this side you can walk the beach, swim in the cove-like area; snorkel, kayak, take a catamaran ride, swim in one of two pools, there is a swim up bar, Seaside Grill, World Cafe, there is a grilling station, a Paella station, Portofino - the excellent Italian restaurant, El Patio - the mexican restaruant, Baracuda Bar (which sits out by the water), and a little natural pool full of local fish.

The wait staff was top notch. Everyone tries to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The event staff are very outgoing, and through the week there are different events throughout the day. You can get a schedule of the day's events at the concierge desk, and the schedule is posted at the bottom of the stairs to the beach side of the resort. Do not miss the 'Fire and Water' event on the beach. Also, note that a couple of eveinings during the week we were there, local artisans were allowed into the resort to set up stands and sell their wares. If you never plan to leave the resort this is a great way to find a few souvenirs.

The rooms are very comfortable - we opted for the King size bed and were not displeased. We upgraded to the Honeymoon suite which overlooked the beach. From our room we could see Cozumel. The sunrises were incredible and at times could be confused with sunsets - wonderful colors!

We had a mini-fridge in our room which the daily staff refilled pretty regularly. There are Coronas and sodas, but the big item from the fridge was the bottled waters.

The bathrooms are very large, and unlike many places we have stayed out, the bathroom had a solid door that could be shut!

The food at the resort was great as well. The one item of note that all travelers who plan to stay at an all inclusive resort is this: If you don't like your food...order something else. Portofino was fantastic. We reserved a table by purchasing a bottle of wine earlier in the day so that we could enjoy it with our dinner. At dinner time they brought us to the front of the line and escorted us to our table - which was covered in rose petals! Very romantic!!

There is a romantic dinner option that you can arrange with the concierge where you sit in a little palapa right out on the beach facing the sea. You have a several differnt menus to choose from depending on the level of dinner you pick with the concierge. From there its a pre fixe meal. A wonderful dining experience!

Get the Fresh Catch of the day at Seaside Grill!!! Also, from 8-10 Seaside Grill has a breakfast menu..I highly recomend it! ....and the Green Juice

Also, if you feel like a short walk, go to the marina and check out the dolphins (you can swim with them), the seals (can't swim with them though), and the manatees (you actually can swim with them).

Last bit of advise: Even though everything has been paid for as part of the all inclusive package, leaving a dollar or two for a tip goes a long way.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Adult side face the marina and the adult pool. We opted for a garden room which overloo...

My mother and I decided to splurge and take a vacation to Mexico so after some research we decided to travel to Puerto Aventuras and choose Dreams. We were not only thrilled with our decision once we ended our vacation we have recommended it to friends, family, and anyone who will listen.

Dreams offered fantastic dining options which included food that was prepared a la carte at every restaurant. We loved every single meal we had at each of the restaurants and could not believe that we got so much bang for our buck! The staff was absolutely wonderful and truly a pleasure to be around. They were friendly and helpful and just completely superb!

The resort was always clean and well kept--my mother can get very picky with the cleanliness of resorts, but she didn't complain once about anything. She thought it was exceptionally clean.

The beach was sandy and beautiful. There were plenty of spots in the sun and also many spots under umbrellas and little huts. It wasn't too loud or too quiet and there was always some source of entertainment whether it was pool aerobics or a volleyball tournament going. The staff really made it their business to make sure that you were having a good time and they let you know where to go to have it. For example, my mom wanted to quietly relax on the beach for a couple of days so we were directed to the quiet side of the beach away from foot traffic---perfect!

I really have no negatives to speak of when I write this review. I would come here again in a heartbeat.

My wife and I and our daughters (ages 6 and 2) stayed at this resort in December of 2011. We were there for 10 days and had a great time. The resort is very family oriented. The staff were great and really made an effort to get to know you. They have lots of activities for kids including bungee trampoline, soccer on the beach, and they even brought out a pinata for a little girl's birthday! The ocean was great because the resort is situated in a bay so the waves are very minimal, even on days when the wind was strong. It's perfect for kids! There was even a school of fish that hung out in the bay all the time. You could grab bread from the buffet restaurant and feed them. Our kids loved doing this because the fish would swim all around you and even between your legs. There was also lots of good snorkeling right in the bay. The buffet restaurant had a separate section that was just the right height for kids. Our girls loved this because they could go up and get their own food. It made them feel very special.

The food was very good and the constant supply of fresh salsa, guacamole, and chips in the buffet restaurant was awesome! It was nice not to have to make reservations at any of the restaurants. We were there for 10 days and only had to wait once to be seated. The Barefoot grill was a nice choice for breakfast or lunch. It's basically a little food station outside with a chef that made crepes and waffles in the morning and hamburgers and hot dogs in the afternoon. They also had a paella station a few times.

Another nice thing is that the resort is small. You were only a 2-3 minute walk from any room to the beach. When you have small kids you're always running back up to the room so it was nice to not have to go far. They had a movie on the beach every night which was a nice touch. Our girls loved sitting under the stars to watch movies.

The resort also publishes a newsletter every day that tells you the planned activities for that day as well as the movie that will be shown on the beach. It also tells you the live entertainment scheduled for that night (they brought in acts from the surrounding area including a one-man cowboy show and a really cool fire and drums show). The newsletter also told you the drink of the day. They always had a kid-friendly drink and an adult-friendly drink.

Our room was very nice and clean. We happened to get a room with a spiral staircase leading up to a second level with a large sectional sofa and tv. The kids loved playing up there.

The fact that Puerto Aventuras is a closed, gated community was nice. You had to go through a security gate to get into the village so we felt very safe walking around and visiting the many shops around the marina. There was a great Dolphin Discovery facility at the marina (only about a 10 minute walk from the resort). You could walk around the place and see dolphins, manatees, and sea lions for free! You could pay to swim with the dolphins and manatees if you wanted.

All in all, we loved our stay at this resort. Our kids ask us at least three times a week when we're going back!

Went to Dreams Tulum last year and it was wonderful so thought would try PA this year. Big mistake. Hotel is small, cramped, dated, poorly maintained, staff also very haphazard - some good - some couldn't care less.
The hotel layout is very strange and splits the complex in 2 - not very user friendly - there is suppose to be an adults only pool - but again very noisy and no shade. Most mornings you would find empty bottles and glasses dotted around the pool and hot tub from the night before, just another example of the lack of detail or efficiency.
This is not the resort to chose if you want a quiet, relaxing and luxurious holiday. Everything is crammed into together. Very tiny beach with very little shade, not a very pretty outlook as surrounded by ugly big black rocks, and unable to swim in the sea. Restaurants, not as many as in Tulum and only Portofino can actually claim to be a decent restaurant with good quality food.
There are loads of big ugly black birds on the site, which are a real nuisance. They swoop down onto peoples chairs and onto the tables if there is any food left unattended for a second - not very hygienic and a real problem as there is evidence of bird droppings everywhere. Our room was also small - had an awful smell - no sofa - no table. If you wanted room service, had to pull in wicker chairs and table off the balcony to eat! Cleaning also was very much as and when - i.e. most days not cleaned until after 4pm - but the day we were checking out they knocked at 8am!
Theatre was very small and tiny stage (inside) we are sun starved Brits and part of the charm of being in Mexico is being able to see shows and eat outside - both these activities were sadly poor in comparison to Tulum, which had a wonderful huge plaza outside for shows where they also had room to lay on brilliant buffets.
Dont worry about a dress code here, most people didnt bother and wandered about in shorts, Tshirt and flip flops everywhere and getting steadily louder and drunker.
Overall this was a very poor hotel and could not compare in any way with Tulum. I have been sadly put off from trying another Dreams, but I urge anyone who wants a terrific holiday - go to Tulum but give PA a miss.
Dreams? I don't think so, more like a nightmare!

After a lot of research and debating, I chose Dreams PA as my wedding location and I am so glad we did! My group was 44 friends and family ranging in age from 26-63 with three kids 4, 7 and 9 years of age. So we really got to expereince everything this resort has to offer.

General Hotel Review:

The hotel is very clean and the service all over it excellent. I have no complaints about any of this at all. Yes, there is usually a bit of a wait if you check in before 3 - because rooms are ready at 3. There was a couple people in my group that had to wait longer, but they watch your bags and you can enjoy drinks by the beach!! Nothing to complain about there, just pack flip flops, a swimsuit and cover up in your carry-on. The rooms were very well designed and clean, I did think they were a little small but it didn't matter because I was not in my room much. The rooms were always cleaned, fridge re stocked and towels replaced. We were "preferred club" on 7th floor because we got married there and while it was nice to have the private bar, I don't recommend paying for it.

Resturants:

My friends enjoyed Oceana the seafood resturant but I did not eat there. My favorite was by far Portifinios, you feel like you are paying for an expensive dining experience and the service was incredible. The buffet was usually good, somthing to get quickly and I also enjoyed room service. The sea side grill was good at lunch but I found the service slow for dinner. Also keep in mind that you can order food at the beach or poolside as well! And the barefoot grill was one of my favorites.

Desires Club was nice, small but the service was great. If I was there with just a few friends i know it would not have been a crazy party destination, but it really depends on the crowd that is around. We made our own party all the time. And with help from the entertainment team, namely Tony, we always had something to do. They all work really hard for you, whether it be movies on the beach, karaoke or other events. There is lots to do, you just have to take advantage of it.

The adult pool was one of our favorite places, and Armando made sure he kept the drinks coming! The music isnt very loud there, but some people brought down their own speakers. It wasnt necessary though. We also spent many evenings at the Barracuda bar, its a wonderful scenic place to hang out and while it was windy, it was nice and cool.

The kids that were with our group LOVED the kids club and took advantage of it several evenings. They also loved the fish in the ocean that come right around you. Makes for great snorkelling.

The Wedding

My wedding planner was Jacki and she was fantastic! As the bride you can be as hands on or hands off as you want! Because we had a big group I wanted it to be a full wedding with reception. One suggestion is to have the wedding at 4 - We had ours at 5 and losing the light for pictures was a concern. I also opted to have the reception in doors as it is more private and air conditioned for hot nights and keeps you out of the wind as the Mayan can be quite windy. The women in the Spa did an amazing job with hair and make-up, The ceremony was just as I planned and the cocktail hour with our mirachi band was delightful. The reception was well catered and the food was great. PS the Chocolate cake was INCREDIBLE. I do wish we had more time for the reception and each additional hour was quite expensive - But at the end we all went to desires and kept the party going. My one tip for the bride is to open your garment bag and show the wedding planner everything inside because my viel was misplaced. I wasn't upset about it because I did not want to wear it anyways due to the wind, and as a result I never noticed until 2 days later, then they could not find it. The staff were all really great about it though and Jacki offered to help cover the cost of the viel. So no complaints there.

We all went off resort several days, its a quick taxi to Playa where you can shop or enjoy the beach, or go to the island. Also there are many tours that are fun adventures. Everything is very safe. Not once did I feel uncomfortable. Also the town of PA is gated and has shops and you can walk to see the Dolphins and manatees. The shops are more expensive than in Playa so if you are planning to go there, wait until you do to shop!

All in all it was an absolutely fantastic time!! I definately recommend this resort. It may be smaller, but I liked that because it meant I seen all my friends and family often.

Room Tip: Higher level floors, 3 and up are more quiet and unless you have kids you should ask to face the adu...
