especially if you "splurge" for the suite. (Still only about 42$). We showed up with a recommendation from Rough Guide and we first took a really small box of a room on the first floor. Way too hot and stuffy so the next morning we paid for the suite, with a little patio and were very happy. Got the room on the photo. Nice big bed too.
I though the location was good, only one block from a sweet little plaza (jardin) and a couple more to the main plaza.
The pool for this hotel is quite charming, but a block away which made it not too appealing after all. But a lovely place to have cafe and tea!

this place is clean and comfortable and quiet. Nice people, too. Not de lujo just nice. Excellent value.

Room tip: longish walk to the jardin principal

Hospedajes del Rey does not impress from the exterior nor its modest lobby. But we took a chance on it and were glad we did. Our room (#16) was large with king-sized bed, private patio (see patio photo with chairs only), HD-TV, and a small but lovely, new-looking bathroom with shower. Prices range from about 550 pesos to 615 pesos per night ($42.50 – 49.00). Check current prices at www.hotelhospedajesdelrey.com.

Everything was super clean and the staff at the hotel and restaurant were friendly and helpful. Their knowledge of English was limited, so some knowledge of Spanish would be a big help (there and anywhere in Mexico actually).

The hotel’s pool and restaurant, oddly enough, are across the street. The restaurant is large with two sides exposed to the outdoors, including the pool area. It isn’t open for dinner, but you won’t lack choice for restaurants. Just wander several blocks down the street to Plaza de Libertad and eat outdoors at any number of venues. From the Ceballos you can listen to concerts performed from the wrought-iron bandshell (see photo) across the street. The waiter told us that an orchestra plays Wed. and Thursday 7 – 8:30 PM. On Thursday night we watched couples dance to cha-cha, rumba, the waltz, etc. While in Colima 5 days, we took in 4 free outdoor concerts, a pure delight.

Breakfast at nearby Hotel America is always a treat, as live music on the grand piano starts at 8 AM and the pianist is good.

Hotel Hospedajes del Rey is located close to the largest of the three parks in the downtown area, Plaza Nuñez. All three plazas are beautifully landscaped with many fountains, flowering bushes and a variety of trees
