Very nice hotel in great location, but because most of the guests are Mexican with many kids sometimes it make very chaotic impression.
Room was very nice, comfortable with beautiful view.
Nice landscaping, great entertainment nightly.
Room was meticulously clean, I need to give compliment to the cleaning lady.
She was doing her job to perfection.
Daily clean towels, but towels were quite old, need replacement.I would expect better quality of towels in 5* hotel.
Food was plentiful, good variety, very tasty.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating .
3 a la cart restaurants, no need to make reservation, that was plus.
Large variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks.
During the lunch or dinner or breakfast it was very chaotic, noisy, at times hard to find
Table to sit.
But I need to admit, that staff in the restaurant was very polite, friendly, professional,
They were equped with patience to be able to deal with so many visitors.
Beach and pool was so busy that it was unpleasant.
Every morning having hard time to find chair on the beach, so busy it was,esp on the weekend.
I did enjoy my stay, but would be nicer if it was more quiet.

We stayed here for two weeks and I can honestly say this is a great holiday resort. The staff are super friendly and they are always looking to communicate in a positive way with guests. We were welcomed into the hotel with ice cold drinks and an efficient check in process

At the welcome meeting all the senior hotel staff introduced themselves to us and I believe this was a positive statement of intent on making our stay a great one

Our room was on the top floor overlooking the garden and fountains. On an evening we enjoyed watching the world walk by while drinking cold drinks from the in room refrigerator/optics

The room was always cleaned to a high standard and we welcomed everyday by a towel sculpture

There are 5 restaurants on the complex, Buffet, Mexican, Steak, Italian, Asian also the sports bar has snacks available. The food in all the restaurants was of an excellent standard with a fair amount of variety. You get waiter service for your main meal in the Mexican and Italian and you get full meal waiter service in the Steak restaurant. There is no requirement of formal dress in any of the restaurants so shorts are welcomed everywhere. You do not need to reserve your table in any of the restaurants.

There are two pools that do get very busy but there are loads of beds available, we preferred laying under the palm trees on the beach, sipping numerous cocktails watching out for whales during the day and then watching the fantastic sunsets

A number of reviewers have complained about there being too many Mexican guests at the weekend and yes a lot do visit, but is that not what you would expect going to a Mexican resort? I would guess about 50% of the guests are Mexican 30% Canadian and the rest from UK USA

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Riu Jalisco and would definitely return again

If you fancy good food, great entertainment, access to beach and great service then this is the place to book. Met other people who were staying at other hotels and they often came back to our hotel as there was much more atmosphere and fun.
Ramon was great at the bar, Alonso in the restaurant and generally all the staff in the hotel and reception.
would definitely return.. well done takes a lot to impress me.

Went there in November for a last minute vacation. We had been here once before so we were repeat customers. This is a very nicely set up resort for groups or families, not to big and not to small.

Pools are decent and the ocean and beach is very nice!

We really appreciate all the hardworking staff. I have a soft spot for the Mexican people.

The only issue we had is we wanted our two rooms side by side and the rooms they gave is were a short distance away. I talked to ladies at the desk and in a couple of days they honoured our request. Thank you!

This is not a plush 5 star resort but for the money you pay it really meets all expectations. We will be back!

Stayed for 1 week Nov. 26-Dec. 3, 2017. This resort is very nice. The food and drinks are very good. The only way they could be better is if they were made with real fruit (some did have some fruit). When we arrived we were given a ground floor room. The room seemed musty. Looked like the AC grate was dirty. We went to the front desk and told them we didn't like the room and would like a room higher up. They gave us a room on the 6th floor but we couldn't get until the next day at 4:00 pm. We had to check out at 12:00. So we were homeless for 4 hours. But that was well worth it. They even took care of our luggage and placed it in the new room. Thank you very much for that. The new room was much nicer with a touch of an ocean view. Other than that everything else was great. We stayed at the Riu Vallarta a few years ago for two weeks and had no AC. We asked for a room change at least 4 times and had no luck. So we will never go back to Riu Vallarta. But we will return to Riu Jalisco. Very happy with pretty much everything. One thing they could maybe do is put cushions on the door jambs. The doors seem to slam and echo down the halls. Also as someone else mentioned the beach has a lot of sticks, roots from the trees. The beach loungers could use a good scrubbing.

To start off, what a beautiful resort. Very friendly staff, and gorgeous beach!
Long review, worth the read I promise! I spent the week with my mother from Nov 6-13.

Ride from the airport:
Arrived at airport and was surprised at how fast we got through customs. When looking for our bus, we stumbled across a very convincing tour guide who unfortunately led us into a bit of a excursion/timeshare concoction instead of leading me to my bus when he "identified" himself as a sunwing rep....anyways. We arrived in taxi to our cab and were greeted by staff at the front entrance who helped with our bags. The distant to the airport from hotel was approx 20 mins.

Check-In:
Went smoothly and was given a welcome cocktail. Check in was quick and a map was shown to us for all the local areas, and hot spots to visit

Room:
Room was updated and very clean. Mini fridge was stocked well every single day, there was also a booze dispenser bar with tequila, gin, rum and vodka.
The rooms were not cleaned every day, if they were it wasnt cleaned until late afternoon. If we needed more towels etc, the housekeeping staff were happy to oblige.
Housekeeping staff made adorable towel animals and tried their best which was appreciated! Our room -4208- was outward facing towards another hotel and the back grass lot. We had to change rooms originally which showcased the beautiful pond in the middle of the hotel, due to the air conditioning and safe not working, But we were transferred rooms immediately and with no concerns. Air conditioning doesnt get really low. Maybe 18-20C. Not nearly cold enough for me, when you are in the heat all day.
But overall the rooms were clean, contemporary, and well kept.
Patios on each room with 2 chairs and table

Building:
The building itself is gorgeous, it is very colonial and the architecture is stunning.
The entrance was is perfect for photos. The interior is very modern and contemporary. Everything is updated with glowing beautiful vases, and great mood lighting.
The views are beautiful where ever you go throughout this hotel.

Restaurants:
There were 4 a-la cartes, 3 of which we went to. There was asian, steak house, italian and mexican. Food at all 3 was good, nothing amazing, but presented beautifully on the plate. You do not use reservations for any of the a la cartes, you just walk in and eat or wait in a short line.
We utilized the buffet most nights at it had alot of variety.
There was a ton of local food items to enjoy as well as some american foods we are used to such as french fries, hot dogs, etc.
There was also a carving station, stirfry bar, and pasta station.
The one thing that bothered me is that at any given night there was SO MANY LOCALS, that it was ridiculously hard to find a table. They also dont use the same "buffet style courtesy" that we do where you wait in the line, take what you want, and then move down the line. For them it is a free for all. You want that dish you swoop in like a hawk and get it, I have no problem with there being alot of locals, I just wished they used proper courtesy when using the restaurant.
The locals are allowed to buy a day pass which allows tons of famillies to come in and use the pools and and restaurants, sometimes it can be overwhelming with so many people. The lunch buffet was also really delicious, alot of fresh salads and amazing view on the beach!! Must go!

Pool:
Pool had a ton of people in it at all times, except for maybe one day.
There was a layer of sunscreen on the pool and alot of flies and bugs. We asked for a pool scraper to keep beside the swim up bar due to there being so many bugs floating.
pool was big sized, fairly fast service at swim up bar.
Bring a drink thermos as the cups are tiny and make for alot of refills.

Beach:
Beach needs some improvement. Alot of sticks, garbage etc laying in the sand. Doesnt seem to be raked or taken care of each night which would improve it alot.
There are alot of vendors so be prepared for that. Water itself is warm as anything. But due to the run off from the sierra madre mountains close by (as explained by our tour guide)the water is murky. This side of puerto vallarta that we are on is not as bright and blue as the other side, you will know what I mean when you see it.

Excursion: I actually dont even have enough time to tell you about the nightmare that was our time share presentation, but either way we came out of it with 2 passes. One being a day trip to pureto vallarta, the other to a pirate excursion.
The pirate excursion was one of the best Ive ever been on in my life. It is so funny, and well rehearsed. The crew was amazing, food was also on point. When I return to PV someday I will absolutely return, please check out my review for "Pirate Bay of Puerto Vallarta tour" It is truly worth the time and the money!
We also went on a day trip to PV, where we saw an old church, and drove up to a couple beautiful photo opportunities. The tequila tour was okay. it wasnt a real tequila factory, just a mock one set up in a barn type store. The tequila tasting itself was good. 6 different shots given and all of them delicious.
You will be pestered by men with iguanas wanting to take a photo and bracelet vendors, so if you want to avoid that stay in the bus. bus was air conditioned on the way there and not on the way back due to it breaking down and we had to be transferred.
AVOID VIDANTA TIMESHARE PRESENTATION. IT IS A NIGHTMARE!! TERRIFYING!

Shopping:
Shopping was not close by, it was a 15 minute cab ride to one side, or 20-ish minutes into PV. But when in town there was plenty of silver shops, and souvenir stores. The town of PV itself is beautiful and historic and definitely worth the visit.

Grounds:
The grounds are kept beautifully. There is always staff working to keep the lawns tidied, or trees manicured. They really put the effort in!

Bars:
Lots of options at the bar as well as an menu with some delicious drink choices. May I recommend a dirty monkey or the salamander?
Also they have approx 4 different kinds of tequila, give them a try, they are delicious!

Staff/Entertainment:
The staff and entertainment staff are all amazing. They are constantly out around the pool getting people involved. Lots of water aerobics and sports.
Jalisco has 2 pool one for the kiddies and one for adults, which alot of people ignored lol and the adult one has the best music and activities by far. I noticed there is alot to do for kids, I just dont have any so wasnt involved.

Overall: This resort is definitely worth it. Im not sure why so many negative reviews, but honestly we were hesitant as well and you wont be disappointed once you get there! It is a beautiful resort, lots to do, and great food and alcohol. We didnt have one day of rain, so we had an amazing, sunny, trip and would absolutely go back.
Everything we asked for help with or asked to be changed was done so immediately and the staff were all very courteous and attentive.
Will return and would recommend to anyone!!

Room Tip: 4208 Room on outer walls are quieter.

We are staying at Riu Jalisco from November 27th to December 4th. This is our 5th days staying in this resort and we have 3 more days to go, we enjoyed every single day. The resort is huge and the ground is beautiful. The room is a bit smaller compare with other Riu but nice and clean. We had room 3208 near the stairwell . May be due to the structural design the echo is loud especially when people close the door this is the only problem we have. But nothing the management can do unless they are willing to move you to other room. The restaurant is nice, foods are good, service is excellent. I can see the management is on top of everything including house keeping and general cleaning they even supervising during food service. My wife and I are quite satisfied with this vacation. I will sure come back again.
