My husband and I were married at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge in 2015, we had the best time and our wedding was so amazing at the lodge that we decided to return to the lodge for our one year anniversary. Unfortunately our stay this year didn't do much to capture the sentiments we experienced on our big day. My husband attempted to call ahead to surprise me with champagne and strawberries upon our arrival, when he called the hotel staff had a hard time accommodating this arrangement. (even though he offered to provide his credit card ahead of time to prepay) They finally agreed to his request but when we arrived we received nothing, they did not even mention their inability to accommodate his request to him. When we arrived the front desk staff demonstrated a sloppy excuse for customer service and seemed inconvenienced by our arrival. We left our room at 9am the first morning to explore Banff for the day ensuring we put the "please make up room" notice on the door, we arrived back at our room at 3pm and our room had not been made up which was very disappointing. We dined at the lodge, the food was average at best, the crème Brule was the smallest portion I have ever been served, you could go to the Banff Springs or Rimrock, the Maple Leaf Lodge (to mention a few) and get higher quality food at the same price point. I started a fire in the wood burring fireplace after our meal and found a half smoked cigar in the woodpile showing that the staff do not make an effort to thoroughly clean, the pipes that connect to the tub in the bathroom were also quite dirty. We enjoy the overall rustic qualities of the lodge, the wood burning fireplace and remembering our wonderful wedding day. Considering we spent serval thousands of dollars at the lodge last year the staff's level of customer service was disappointing/non existant. My husband and I would love to celebrate our anniversary here next year but have decided to reconsider due to the sub par service and hotel staff that do not seem to take pride in their work. I would definitely recommend staying at a different lodge where you could get a better experience for your $250+ per night.

Room Tip: Ensure you ask for a Primer suite the other rooms are outdated

Lodge is a short drive out of town and offers a good restaurant/bar food menu. Breakfast also good value for money. Bar menu offers more options than the restaurant. Staff were without exception helpful and went the extra mile to ensure we had a good stay. We did not intend to stay in our room for any length of time and we would not have been encouraged to - although cozy and had open fire, it was very tired and in need of some tlc. Observations by other reviews are to the point in respect of wiring. If you are a light sleeper it became apparent why ear plugs were provided as we could clearly hear people moving in the accommodation above us.

Room Tip: Consider choosing first floor accommodation if you do not want to hear footsteps above you.

We enjoyed our stay except for the check in process when they made us wait a half hour until 4:00 o clock to get into our room when we knew it was ready. We were not the only ones this happened to. The room was very nice, the hot tub was great, the fire place was a great touch. Also the parking was very tight--not much room to get in and out. Also, you could walk downtown but it would be a steep and strenuous walk back up the hill to the motel. We would highly recommend this property. Feel free to email if you have questions.

I am SO sad to have to write this review. This has been my "go-to" place whenever visiting the Banff area...but I am sorry to say that I will now be looking for a new favorite place! We stayed here for four nights at the end of September and it was so disappointing. First, i made reservations (and paid the entire amount) for our four nights about 7-8 months in advance and requested a quiet room with a great view. I thought they would try to honor that request. Unfortunately, when we arrived around 6 PM, they said there was only ONE room left and it was on the bottom floor overlooking a parking lot! Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. I voiced my opinion on this to the front desk staff, and they said that they would try to move us the next day, but for now, that's all they had. We went to our room and after unpacking, we went to the restaurant to have a nice dinner. Unfortunately, there was no nice dinner to be had. The server recommended the chowder which was absolutely inedible. Ugh. So bad. It smelled like old seafood and there was a bunch of green slimy stuff in it...it was absolutely disgusting...not a little bad, but completely rancid tasting. The rest of the food was just so-so (it used to be really good here!) and expensive. The service was slow and spotty and not a great attitude from the staff. We never went back to the restaurant again after this awful experience. Anyway, as we found out upon return to our room, the bathroom sink was completely backed up to the point where we had to brush our teeth in the bathtub area. They did end up moving us the next day, which was a better room (although inconvenient to have to move), but overall, the place seems like they are catering more now to groups and weddings and forgetting about the individual guests...which is such a bummer. I used to love you Buffalo Mountain...but I won't be back again :(.

The room was a decent size and nicely appointed, but there was dust everywhere besides the main areas that would be easy to clean. If you look at the trim, the mantel, the wooden table in front of the fireplace, etc, it was all very dusty. There were also marks and dents on the walls in places. The toilet was not completely cleaned when we arrived. Also, the walls are very thin and we could hear a lot of noise from our neighbours just walking around and washing their hands. They were up around 6am which made it very hard to sleep in. The bed was advertised as a Queen, but looked and felt smaller.
However, the wedding venue here was very nice and the staff were friendly. The location is great. The rooms just need some updating and a closer attention to cleanliness. It makes you wonder what else have they skimped on. For the price you pay there are much better deals available.

Good food, friendly staff, nice location. The room was very dated and in need of repairs - looked as if a leak or flood had taken place in the bathroom and not properly fixed. Wood burning fireplace is a treat

Stayed for two nights in a premier room. Loved the room, but it was quite dark and my girlfriend really struggled to do her make-up (I managed okay though). Otherwise perfect though and the bathroom is really cool with a standalone bathtub.

It's outside of town and although we had a car we decided to walk into town for dinner both nights (we didn't eat at the hotel) and it took about 20 minutes. The first night we decided to walk back but actually I wouldn't recommend doing that as there are no lights on the road back to the lodge. The next night we used the hotel's chauffeur system and got picked up at a bar in town - it's a really good idea and you can call to be picked up anytime up until 11pm.

Staff were very friendly and if you don't want to go into town there is a bar and restaurant at the hotel.

One thing I would bear in mind (particularly if staying over a weekend) is there are quite a few weddings and other events at the hotel (they were preparing for 5 weddings when we were staying). It didn't really affect us there is a separate area for events and the hotel were good at managing it, but the bar area was fairly busy one day as guests had arrived early.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a premier room - quite dark inside, but spacious and has a nicer bathroom
