We stayed for three nights. The furniture in the cabin was stressed by wear and tear and could do with refurbishment at the very least. The carpet was stained and dirty much like the sister hotel in Emerald Lake.
We had a roadside cabin with a balcony, with two plastc chairs and no table. The road was the main road to Bannf's RV sites so was very noisy early morning, perhaps we should have guessed this with the free ear plugs supplied. The on site cafe had just gone onto low season hours and shut at 5pm, and the Sleeping Buffalo restaurant menu was expensive as was the buffet breakfast at $22/person. Better options elsewhere in Bannf. We were unaware there was a shuttle service until we read the reviews, there was nothing in our cabin about this service. We could have gone into town and have a bottle of wine with our meal. There are no room safe's so the arrangement is you go to Reception, put all your valuables in a brown envelope make a list of them and hand it over to a very young person you have never met in your life before, who states it will be placed in the safe later. Hotel Housekeeping finishes at 5pm so when we needed some resources they were not available at 7pm in the evening and Reception carried no spares. The best thing about this hotel was the friendly work ethic of the staff who did everything possible to please.Well done staff 5 out of 5, the hotel 2 out of five for its very seedy rooms.

Room Tip: Do not get a road side cabin on Tunnel Mountain Road. Ask for a room with clean carpets.

Rooms are comfortable although the door is a direct access to the outside. So, if it is very cold outside opening the door is a discomfort. The rooms have adequate WiFi. Location is outside of Banff, just 5 minutes by car. Here again the carpet has stains which is becoming a constant during our journey through Canada. Don’t they have carpet cleaners in Canada?

While this overnight stay was a bit pricey, we did have a comfortable, well-appointed room for 4 adults. The service was great, including free shuttle back and forth to downtown Banff. Felt like a place I could have stayed several nights rather than just passing through.

Arrival was rather chaotic as there was a wedding party in the lounge area and could barely hear the receptionist's directions etc. Whether because of the wedding party or not, don't know, but parking space was direly lacking. Had to squeeze through to get to our block then couldn't get our hire car in close to our room. Cars were parked randomly, not in designated bays, which might have helped, especially as we were at the top of a steeply sloping cul-de-sac.
Were expecting rustic style, but didn't anticipate furniture with dents and scratches all over it, a wobbly desk chair, nor the general air of drabness that prevailed. Even chairs on verandah were cheap plastic ones and no side table. Bed was ok, linen clean, but whole room was in need of an overhaul. Stayed in a couple of other places on our trip with a similar style, far superior to this, and our less expensive motel in Victoria was miles better.

No sign of menu or other guest information visible - just the book on the mantel giving the background to the hotel and its sister properties. Then found menu randomly in a drawer - not wildly helpful to hide it there. As it happens we'd had a look online earlier and decided that vegetarians were not well catered for, so had actually had a very good gluten free veggie flatbread at the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company outlet in the town's shopping mall before making our way to the hotel.
And the provision of ear plugs should have set alarm bells ringing - well, the hooters did - from the trains that came through at regular intervals until pretty late at night. Not only that, but we were disturbed by the creaking of the timbers when our neighbours came back from the bar or dining room at whatever time it was. The noises were so loud that it felt like someone was actually in our room. Scarcely slept at all and were glad when the sun rose and we could get on our way again, having little inclination to try the restaurant for breakfast, and hoping to find somewhere good to have brunch on the next stage of our journey.
Sadly disappointed.

I've just stayed here on a touring holiday around Canada. My room was very dated with horrible furniture that was old and badly marked. The carpet was filthy, the bed had a horrible brown quilt on and the pillows stank of greasy heads. The bathroom was horrible with brown marks in the bottom of the bath and also the washbasin and the shower curtain also stank. My friend had 309 and the carpet was even dirtier and smelt of urine. You could hear every movement from the people above with creaking floorboards and expect an early wake up when the boiler comes on at 5am. The only good thing was the bed was really comfy and the food was ok. Not a good start to our holiday though and we couldn't wait to move on.

We had 3 nights here as part of our wedding. beautiful room, with king bed and fireplace, clawed bath and beautiful view, like we were in a tree house, no in room fridge which would have been nice. Cleanliness was ok, everywhere except the bathroom where the last customers had left their used eyelashes on the vanity. Shower leaked all over the floor.
Close to the main shopping area with a free shuttle for transport.
Amazing restaurant. Very lovely wait staff.

Front guest staff was a disappointment, the self proclaimed "bellboy" was the person checking us in and out and was apologetic about the issues in doing so as it "wasn't his normal job". Misspelt names/address on all the paperwork. Check out was a long struggle with the staff as we were a big group and for some reason our individual rooms were all lumped together even though this was clarified on check in. Wanted to charge us for calls to the other rooms in the hotel.
Overall beautiful hotel, but in need of a few changes to make it that 5 star experience.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Buffalo Mountain Lodge is a peaceful retreat on Tunnel Mountain in Banff, AB. The lodge is surrounded by 9 acres of towering fir, pine, and spruce trees, yet just a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from the shopping, nightlife and restaurants that are on offer in downtown Banff. A favourite visitor pastime is to observe the deer and elk who frequently nibble on the lawn, right outside the lodge's windows. The lodge has 108 guest rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and several options for dining, making it the ideal location for a weekend getaway, wedding, or corporate retreat. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' family of companies. Rooms at the lodge have fieldstone wood-burning fireplaces, cozy duvets, LCD televisions and Blu-ray players. Many feature patios or balconies. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect the mountain lifestyle in Banff-the accommodation is anything but 'cookie cutter.' The outdoor stainless steel hot tub is best enjoyed after an invigorating hike, bike or ski on one of the nearby trails-or perhaps to aid digestion after a sumptuous meal in the lodge's highly acclaimed restaurant, Sleeping Buffalo. ... more   less
