I just had my wedding here, and it could not have been a better place. Reception room was incredible, food was delicious. We got a lot of compliments on the perfect stake that was served. And the deserts were unforgettable. Our event coordinator at the hotel made it so easy for us. She was very attentive and took care of all the details and more. Tunnel mountain meadow behind the hotel is the perfect ceremony location.
I have to agree on one thing from other reviews about the rooms at the hotel. They are a hit or miss. A little to dark for summer time. But nevertheless a very nice hotel to stay at.

I just returned from a wonderful trip to Alberta with my husband and another couple. I was the trip planner and was very careful when choosing our accomodations. I utilized this website for my decisions. My only disappointment was the Buffalo Lodge.

On the plus side, the staff was pleasant, the grounds were nice and the rooms were clean and cozy. We arrrived a little early and were allowed to check-in early. The bus stop was across the street from the lodge which was convenient.

On the minus side, the rooms were dark. The lamps were capable of using 3-way bulbs but only low watt bulbs were used. The train and road noises made the first couple of days a little difficult to sleep. Probably the most inconvient for us was when we made the mistake of lighting a fire in the fireplace. The roomed filled with smoke and the fire alarm went off. The flue wasn't working properly. We were moved to another room after a couple of hours.

If you don't mind noise, dark rooms and don't want to have a fire in the fireplace, the Buffalo Lodge would be a good place for you. However, I would not stay here again.

We were slightly disappointed with this hotel, probably because the previous hotel had been so fabulous. Our room was on the ground floor and was rather small and dark in comparison to what I had been led to believe. In the winter it would have been lovely as it was small and cosy with a fire but in the summer it was disappointing that no sun entered the room directly. THat said it was clean and the staff friendly. Quite a way out of Banff town centre itself so if you don't have a car you rely on taxi's if you don't wish to walk up the mountain.

We had such a great dinner at Buffalo Mountain Lodge that we went back a couple nights later. They specialize in wild game and fish. The dishes we had were outstanding. I especially liked the caribou although my husband preferred the elk. We couldn't believe how quite such an exquisite restaurant was but that was fine with us. The service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. The price on the high side with 3 course dinner for 2 coming to $120 Canadian. It certainly would not stop us from going back.

We selected this hotel based upon a mistaken notion that this was actually a true Canadian Rocky Mountain lodge--a destination in itself. Make no mistake, it is a very nice hotel, with large rooms, excellent beds, and a nice large bath. In the final analysis, once we overcame our expectations of a lodge experience, we were reasonably well satisfied. However, you should know in advance that this is just a local Banff hotel with sort of a "lodge theme." It is nothing like this company's superb Emerald Lake Lodge, which is by any measure a true lodge experience and a destination on its own merits.

We stayed at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge for 3 nights in June 2006. It is just up the road from the main street in Banff, you will still need a car. The rooms are small, but very well appointed. The fireplace in the room is excellent. They set it up every night so you can just use a match to start and add as much wood as you would like. The main restaurant is very nice with a nice selection of game.

We stayed at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge for 3 nights in early July. The room was cozy-small but with such a great ambiance to it. The check-in was smooth, the room was spotless, and we were greeted with a personalized card & chocolates. The room was like no other place that I've stayed before. Yes, there was a wedding. Another person here complained about music playing until 11:15! Well it didn't bother us. No big deal. And we managed to light the fireplace without sounding the fire alarm. It just takes a bit of common sense. We found the lodge rustic, peaceful, and very comfortable. It's a 20 minute walk down Tunnel Mountain to Banff townsite. We will return again, we really liked it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Buffalo Mountain Lodge is a peaceful retreat on Tunnel Mountain in Banff, AB. The lodge is surrounded by 9 acres of towering fir, pine, and spruce trees, yet just a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from the shopping, nightlife and restaurants that are on offer in downtown Banff. A favourite visitor pastime is to observe the deer and elk who frequently nibble on the lawn, right outside the lodge's windows. The lodge has 108 guest rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and several options for dining, making it the ideal location for a weekend getaway, wedding, or corporate retreat. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' family of companies. Rooms at the lodge have fieldstone wood-burning fireplaces, cozy duvets, LCD televisions and Blu-ray players. Many feature patios or balconies. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect the mountain lifestyle in Banff-the accommodation is anything but 'cookie cutter.' The outdoor stainless steel hot tub is best enjoyed after an invigorating hike, bike or ski on one of the nearby trails-or perhaps to aid digestion after a sumptuous meal in the lodge's highly acclaimed restaurant, Sleeping Buffalo. ... more   less
