Room seemed OK at first however as soon as we walked through the door the heat was almost unbearable. Even with the thermostat turned down to the lowest setting it was still stifling hot. Woke up in the middle of the night and plugged in a portable fan that was in the room (clearly this was a common issue if there was a fan in there to begin with). Got very little sleep.

The room we stayed in was interior in the hotel, thus the balcony looked down on the lobby and had no access to outside fresh air and had no practical use. We could also clearly hear everything that was going on in the lobby first thing in the morning, the design of the room was odd.

Unless they solve the problem with air circulation I wouldn't recommend anyone staying there.

We had booked in to the Ptarmigan and once we got there, we could not stay. The girl at the desk was lovely and super helpful but the rooms were horrible. Although the room had just been renovated, it was still dark and gross and the smell of the new carpet was horrible! The rest of the place was really run down and needs a big reno as well. We went down the street and found a much better place ( Inns of Banff) for MUCH cheaper as well!

On first appearance this hotel seems beautiful but don't be fooled. The outside of the hotel has good curb appeal. Front entrance and front desk area have been updated and look nice. Staff was friendly. BUT...this hotel is not for the traveller who is looking for cleanliness! Although the rooms have been updated we were extremely disappointed. As soon as we walked into the room there was a strong smell of vomit and a large white patch of something on the carpet. All the corners and tight spots in the room had dust, cob webs and what looked like pieces of drywall. Linens had stains on them, including the towels and bathmat in the washroom. Windows and patio door had fingerprints and other sticky streaks on them. Trash cans stank and upon closer look it appeared like vomit had been left in one of them but not cleaned out.
We could clearly hear the movements and conversations of the guests in the room next to us even though they were just talking in normal tones.
The halls in the hotel are very narrow and ceilings low, giving a dark and dingy feeling. Carpet was so dirty and edges and corners were full of dust and pieces of trash.
The hot tub area was grimy. Floors were dirty. The gym is a small 9 by 5 area with 3 small and dated excersize machines and is in the same room as the hot tubs and steam room. Absolutely no way u could work out in that area with the steam and hot air, not to mention the tiny space and dated machines!
Do not enter the underground parking if u drive anything but a small car. A regular sized pickup has a hard time even turning a corner and u will end up backing the entire way out as there's only one exit and entrance and it's extremely tight.
All in all, this hotel is not a good experience for the $200 a night price!!

This is a great location to stay in Banff. It is one of the first hotels as you walk away from the downtown shops and restaurants. The added bonus is the fact that the ski bus will stop right in front of the hotel, so you do not have to go too far in your ski boots.

The hotel has a nice atrium to hang out in, so you do not have to stay cramped in your hotel room. And there are two nice sized hot-tubs in the basement, with a sauna and a steam room. Nice!!

Unfortunately for us, the hotel is currently under renovations, so if you decide to take a day off skiing, you will not be able to sleep in past 8:30am, as the banging starts around then.

The added bonus was that we had the privilege to use the roof-top spa facilities in the Moose Lodge next door, which is a brand new hotel (opened for less than a year), and they had a great in-door swimming pool for the kids to play in, and superb hot-tubs and sauna. We were able to sit in the hot-tub and admire the mountains.

Decided to book this hotel after staying at Banff International the previous year and not being impressed.
From our initial telephone booking we found staff very helpful. On arrival Maria on reception was very helpful and explained about renovations taking place etc. Our rooms had recently been renovated and were very pleasing with plenty of storage, tea and coffee facilities and a good size fridge. Workmen seemed to start at 08:00 and finish about 17;00 which was not a problem as we were out during the day skiing.
Location is good for main amenities on main avenue. We used the hotel restaurant one evening and had an enjoyable meal.
Good spa facilities. Only one small moan- very cold dining area in the mornings- mostly due to doors being left open but I feel this will be amended when full renovations done. When in Banff again would certainly use this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms being refurbished to high standards.
