This is the 3rd time we've stayed at this hotel. It was never this run down before, but the last time were 10 years ago. I'm typically very tolerant, but this room is just ridiculous with its condition. We stayed in a loft wit
h kitchenette. The decor is very dated, but thats not even the issue. It feels very dirty. First when we came into the room, there was a pizza box on the counter with a slice of old pizza in it. Saw a big black ant in the washroom and killed it. Also had to chase after a fly thats flying around for a few minutes. There are stains on the carpet, molds on the window ledge, dead dried bugs trap between the two layer windows, they use duct tape on the floor tile to patch up a chipped tile by the fire place(really?!?), missing light bulbs on the lamp, the mattress sinks in at the middle, the rocks above the fire place is completely black from soot, coffee maker very old and full of yellow stain(I don't even want to use it), kitchen counter caulking is peeling and dirty, kitchen shelving have dents/chips, the area underneath kitchen sink is peeling and open duct work running in there (AC air duct) while the door doesnt even close. There is a big gap at the seating booth bench seat and the back rest. Two of the chairs had holes in it. Bedroom side lamp has stains and rips on it. Shower head looks dirty and old, bathtub egdes has brown stains. T-bar ceiling in the shower area which is very low and has rips and cuts. It seems like they just patch things up here and there. It really needs a whole unit reno. Nothing looks like the pictures shown on website.

The mens pool change room locker is gross. Out of the 20 to 30 lockers there, only 3 has working coin keylock. The rest does not have a lock anymore. There are rust everywhere in the locker.

We did use the pool and kids playground which is nice. Hotel comes with free bus pass so thats another plus. Wifi works good. Staff are friendly. I think those are the only plus I can think of.

Overall, very disappointed on our 4 nights stay. At $350CAN per night, it is not worth it at all. I would have to say this is one of the worse condition hotel we've stayed in.

If you are looking for luxurious and modern accommodations go elsewhere. If you have kids this is a great place to stay! Comfortable with a great indoor playground and water park. If you get hit with a rainy day and don't want to go outside this will save everyone's sanity.

My wife and I stayed in a suite that had a couch that should have been replaced years ago. Sitting on it to watch TV was an event in that we kept slipping off the couch in that it was angled down toward the floor. Obviously the cushions and springs in the couch were shot and needed replacing. The housekeeping service was absolutely lacking. Towels were rarely changed, the bed was made one day out of the four days we stayed there. The patio was trashy and the patio furnishings were dirty. The kitchenette was very nice and we ate breakfast there daily. It saved money as Banff restaurants are not inexpensive. For a family of four or five this hotel would be ok. It has a nice pool and "waterpark" in which to unwind at the end of a long day. The hot tub was nice also. The garage parking was terrible as the parking spaces are too close together. There is outside parking available. The location is nice in that it is out of Banff central by around a mile. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle at the end of the day. Would I ever return to Douglas Fir? Yes I would because I don't really spend a lot of time in the hotel. I would not recommend it if your expect a luxury, pristine hotel. The surroundings, though, was pleasant. Oh, and by-the-way, their was an extremely rude and curt lady that partially checked us in. The two young ladies that initially began to check us in were very nice and pleasant. Very cheerful. Out room was not ready so we had to return in an hour to complete our check-in. That's when we got the middle-aged lady from hell who completed our check-in. Whoever she was, she has no business being in the hospitality business. Leave that to cheerful people! Banff and Canada was Beautiful. Going back before too long!

We had a classic / basic suite, which was large, comfortable and practical, but quite dated. The aqua park / swimming pool were quite nice, with large slides - although again they were dated and the 2 saunas were not functional. The main down points though was how noisy it was just outside of our room (with noisy aircons and delivery trucks), which made it difficult to keep windows open.

Our expectations for this resort may have been too high. From the photos and based on the pricing I was disappointed at how worn and beat up the rooms were. We found burn holes in the kitchen counter, rips in the livingroom sofa, gouges out of the coffee table. The room was fairly clean and the room had all the necessary stuff. The location was convenient and the view from the parking area was beautiful. It did the trick for the two nights we were there, but would not be our future choice.
