I find this hotel a bit expensive for room quality, but the downtown location might be worth it if you're not on a budget. The eucalyptus steam room is fantastic. We stayed in a deluxe king sweet with an in suit jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi is very big and you can see the TV from it. The two person shower is also incredible. Very good for a romantic getaway. Parking at this hotel isn't free.

Room Tip: For a couples trip - choose a deluxe jacuzzi room! The shower is fantastic

I enjoy this hotel as the location is perfect. It is in the downtown area of Banff which is great for the colder days. The hotel also offers heated parking for a small fee and has a great store in the hotel for anything you forgot to bring. I will be staying here again for sure.
There is also ash trays on the balconies right outside your patio or balcony door which caters to the smoking crowd as well.

Room Tip: 2nd and 3rd floors have balconies.

Stayed at this hotel last summer and again February 8 -10. Great room, excellent service, restraunt was good. Location is very nice for getting around Banff. Convenient to get ski lift tickets at the hotel so we could start skiing right away. Housekeeping could have been a little better, found some stuff under the bed from previous residents, room service trays sat in the hallway a long time, but bedding and bathroom was clean those are the main things. Steam room was not working the second night but pool was nice. Would like to see kids allowed in the pool until ten o'clock, nine is a little early by the time you back from skiing and then go for supper the kids miss out on the pool.

Clean, safe, friendly, comfortable and well located.

Although this hotel is not right Banff Ave. (the strip), it is very well located, just off of Banff Ave, but close to all the nice restaurants, pubs, and stores. Don't worry that its not on Banff Ave, its way closer to the heart of Banff than many hotels further up the strip.

This is a nice hotel. The rooms are large, clean and bright. They have nice patios, with large wall to wall, floor to ceiling windows with a great view (everywhere in Banff is a great view though). The staff are friendly and helpful. Room has a fridge and safe - great pro.

The pool is a very clean and nice with 2 nice hot tubs, and a eucalyptus steam room that is awesome. This is a HUGE pro. There is a very nice breakfast buffet (18.50) and a very nice bar with a wonderful fireplace. Hotel has valet parking for a very reasonable price (13.50, self park is 9.50). This is a very large hotel with many rooms and a small mall with gift shop and such.

It is just a bit more expensive than most of the average hotels, and not as nice (or nearly as expensive) as the high end Fairmont of Rimrock. The extra cost is worth it, and this is could become my Banff hotel of choice, as I travel there often. Its not a good party hotel for younger people (cost and nicer environment), but great for couples, families, or business.

We've been to Banff many times and we usually stay at the Douglas Fir Resort. I booked this hotel as I got a great deal through AAA. On the plus side the hotel was clean, the beds were very comfortable and the location is terrific, On the downside the pool is too small for the size of the hotel. One evening about 8 young adults came in after a day of skiing and were horsing around in the pool so my young son had to get out as there was no room for him to just swim around. The fitness equipment isn't all that great and because it's in the pool area the area was very hot for working out. They do however have a great eucalyptus steam room. We dined once on the premises and it was a Bavarian buffet. It was ok but certainly didn't win me over to eat any further meals at the hotel. If you want a great breakfast just cross the street and go to Melissa's - awesome apple pancakes! Be aware that if you want to park underground you are charged, ditto for WiFi. Not a huge deal for us this time as the rate we paid for the room was very reasonable. I might come again if I get another great deal but otherwise we'll be going back to the Douglas Fir.
