The level of service was spectacular. Check in is done curb side when you pull up to the hotel. The rooms are smaller than I expected, but well appointed and clean. We upgraded to a mountain view for a small amount of $$$...Highly recommend upgrading...the view is spectacular. The hotel itself is historic and is its beautiful. It s said that there are some ghost residents. I would recommend exploring the hotel, especially if you are adventurous and want to find the ghosts. The level of service at the restaurants was consistently excellent. The hotel is expensive, but you get what you pay for. I would recommended doing some spa services. They were good, but not any better than I have had other places. However, the mineral pool is included if you get a treatment and it well worth it.

Everything at the Fairmont Banff Springs is full of luxury! The food, service, staff, hotel, grounds, etc were all top notch. It is perfectly located with beautiful views and walking distance to town. If you are looking for a high end hotel that can meet pretty much any need imaginable for a luxurious vacation - this is the place! We will definitely stay here again.

Always a pleasure to enjoy the ambience and the service at Banff Springs for Afternoon tea; but as a vegetarian it leaves a lot to be desired. Even after making a reservation and stating that I am a vegetarian, stating I do not eat Meat, fish, Gelatine, today I was served a quarter of a slice of white (appeared to be packet) crust less bread with a smattering of guacamole on one piece and the other quarter piece of bread was smeared with STRAWBERRY JAM & two thin slices of strawberry!! I brought this up at the time with the waitress, who was just lovely and said she would mention it to the kitchen. For $55 a person this is wholly unsatisfactory and NOT value for money and did nothing to add to the experience. Vegetarians are no longer rare breeds and with the pro ported level of chef professionalism & qualification at the establishment it was a complete let down. This may I add is not the first time I have experienced this at the Banff Springs. Advice: If you are a vegetarian, approach this experience with caution.

It is busy in Banff in August but somehow they make it all run smoothly and everyone (front desk, concierge, wait staff in restaurants) is helpful and pleasant. We booked a mountain view room in the Gate House (Stanley Thompson wing) and found it had good proximity to the spa and lobby. It is worth planning a hour or so to wander the hotel and get your bearings because it is massive. We did the self-guided historical walk (the concierge can give you the map) and it was well worth it to learn about the history and the structure. We ate all three nights at the hotel and were thankful we did not have to go back in to town and battle parking arrangements in the city as Banff is very crowded in August. The spa was the only blemish -- we pre-booked access to the spa as part of our room rate and despite this, both days we went to the spa, they wanted to charge us for it. And even though we went there two days in a row, the second day they seemed to have no record of us being there the first day. That being said, once you're in the spa, the facility is very nice (with lots of stairs!). We did the hot and cold plunge pools and mineral bath and the outdoor hot tub which all were very welcome after long days of hiking. We ate at Samurai, Castello and Waldhaus and in each case, the food was delicious and the service excellent. The restaurants are all very small so you should book ahead during busy times to be sure to get a table. Self parking is $27 per day and not that convenient to the hotel (especially if it is raining). We were exploring a lot so we needed a car but if you plan to mostly stay at the hotel and/or just go in to Banff, I would think about skipping the rental car and just arranging transportation from the airport.
