we chose this hotel because the price was reasonable, as all hotels in banff were very expensive on that specific day.
it is an old hotel but it was comfortable and looked clean. the bathroom was renovated which was nice. It is almost one of the last hotels situated in a happening place in banff down town. we parked our car and went through the busy tourist lane which was very nice and lively and plenty of restaurants.
overall it was a good experience for a short stay.

The staff were friendly, but walking in you could tell they haven't remodeled or updated the place in years. The carpets were worn, the bathrooms were older, the sheets were a year or two old (or more), the matress was tired... For us the biggest things were the sheets. You could see light drool stains and all kinds of hair on it. When we asked for new sheets, those had random hairs on it as well! for the same price, I could get a higher quality room, atmosphere, and amenities just a few minutes outside the city, or pay ~$30 more a night for something inside the city. Until management improves quality and cleanliness, I'd recommend elsewhere.

Location was great, two blocks from shopping and restaurants. The office staff was not friendly or courteous. The housekeeping service was poor. The first day, we did not receive any housekeeping service at all. We had to go to the front desk for towels and essentials. The second day, bed was made and towels changed however, no coffee, sugar, or hot cups were provided. We had to go back to the front desk for these items. The third day, the same as the second day. Also, glass drinking glasses were never replaced. The air-conditioner banged on/off cycle waking us up every night. Although excellent location the rooms facing the street side are very noisy.

Room Tip: Location is great, but other than that, I would not recommend this place

Staff lovely. Hotel needs a refurb. Place was clean and bathroom was fine. Curtains also need replacing. Mattress not great. Linen old and room was noisy and a really odd layout. Great location but we wont be back

The location is ideal for walking into the centre, less than five minutes to all the main shops and restaurants. All the staff where helpful, approachable and friendly, reception welcomed us every time we walked into the hotel. Room was comfortable and bathroom was really spacious. We would stay here again as it is a great base for exploring Banff by foot and further afield with a car you can park on the premises.
I was slightly concerned that the door to our room wasn't a fire door, not sure how 'on it' Canada is with health and safety. The room was comfortable but noisy due to the trains and the walls seemed pretty thin, we were woken up multiple times by people having loud conversations in the hall way. The bathroom seemed disproportionately large compared to the bedroom which had a Queen bed.
