“A Great Place To Stay”
Reviewed 23 February 2016 via mobile

This was our first time staying at The Fox but it has now become our place to stay in Banff.

The lobby is gorgeous and the front desk staff friendly and welcoming. There is a Chilli's restaurant in the lobby as well. We didn't eat there so cannot comment.

There is a very cool hot tub on the lower level - it was busy the whole time we were there so if you use it be prepared to get friendly with the other guests.

The rooms are very clean and well appointed. We had a living room/kitchenette combination complete with dishes, a small fridge, and microwave.

Our separate bedroom had one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on in a hotel.

The location is great, on the main road and an easy walk into downtown but far enough away from the bar noise and nightlife. The only downside would be that in colder weather it would be a chilly walk to downtown. Walking back a bit drunk I didn't notice the cold.

We stayed at the Fox Suites for 10 days from the end of January till the start of February. On a previous visit to Banff we had stopped at the hotel for a drink and decided we would like to stay there next time we were over skiing.

On the night we arrived we discovered that the hot tub had been closed. The reason we were told was that the pump was not working and as it was going to be two or three days before it could be fixed we would be welcome to use the facilities of two other hotels that were local. Although this resembled a solution it was not ideal as you really don't want to be going out in the cold to go to other hotels. As the hotel use the hot tub is a key point in their advertising I would have expected some sort of compensation but none was offered.

We were staying in a large suite type room which has a small kitchenette and separate bedroom. The room is very tidy and had almost all the facilities you would need. We discovered on the first night that you have to ask reception if you wish to have dressing gowns for the room.

There is only one lift in the building and it services the garage, the hot tub, the reception, and all the accommodation levels. This was probably poor planning as whenever we had to use the lift it was often delayed while you waited for it to go via every other floor.

The hotel has a chain restaurant attached. The prices of the drinks in the restaurant were more expensive than anywhere else we went.

Overall the hotel is very nice but when we next return to Banff we will try somewhere else. I appreciate that this review is not as complimentary as the hotel would like but it is an honest and factual account of our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for robes when you check in.

We had always stayed at similar but a bit cheaper hotels on Banff Avenue but we finally tried the Fox to see why they cost more. We booked a King Bed room but it turned out to be a suite with sitting room (pull out couch) and kitchenette. Couch was very firm and TV a bit on small size. Bathroom was OK. Bed was comfortable. Expected bath robes in room but didn't get any. (Saw other guest at pool with some). Room was on ground level and we thought privacy may have been an issue - wasn't. Room was nice and quiet. Nice hot tub. Free WIFI, parking and continental breakfast.
We would stay again.

We stayed at the Fox Hotel and Suites for 8 nights whilst skiing Sunshine and Lake Louise. We chose a loft suite and found it to be really spacious, clean and generally a nice place to be. Upstairs in the loft, the bed was big and comfortable, bathroom nice and plenty of wardrobe space. Downstairs in the living area, the sofa was comfortable, the fireplace welcoming and the little kitchenette perfect for making tea/coffee and light meals. There is no cooker but there is a microwave, toaster and kettle, all round it was a good addition to the suite but be aware this is not self catering.
So, the best part of the hotel was our loft suite, we were very happy here. We didn't try the hot tub so can't comment, but it looked good and was always busy.
The two major downsides to this hotel was the breakfast and lift (elevator). First the breakfast! The selection is limited to say the least and it is all jammed into a worktop area of about 2 meters long. Therefore is gets congested very quickly. As the selection is poor (2 types of cereals, 3 types of unattractive pastries, yoghurt, limited fruit) the focus of diners tend to be around the toaster and the waffle makers and consequently you end up having to stand there and wait for your turn (sometimes quite some time!).
Secondly the lift. There is only one lift and I felt half my time spent in this hotel was spent waiting for the damn lift! There are 5 floors plus the underground car park, one lift, at peak times you're waiting for a long time.
The restaurant, Chillies, was pretty good and all the staff were generally pleasant and helpful.
Overall we had a good stay though, the room is always the most important aspect for us and the loft suite was lovely and the hotel situated in a convenient position in Banff. The parking was free and had no problem finding a spac. Would we go back? Possibly, it is reasonable value and if they actually gave you a decent breakfast experience it would make all the difference to this hotel.

Room Tip: Loft suite is spacious and comfortable

We stayed here for 7 nights and we were really impressed. Great rooms which had good amenities. The hotel had a chillis restaurant which come in handy, they had a spa which was good to use after a day skiing. It's only a short walk into town maybe 5-10 minutes. We found the staff friendly, knowledgable & approachable they booked a few day trips for us.

Negatives - the only one was a bit of noise from the spa area.

The location and amenities were great. But, choose your room wisely. We find that while on a ski trip we need a few .... things sleep and space for our stuff. We thought we booked a king bed therefore would have plenty of room to sleep and a room big enough for our gear. Nope! Our room was tiny with a queen bed and no room (dresser or shelves) to take our clothes out of our luggage. We also had a problem with the "fresh air" vent pumping wood smoke filled air into our room. My guess is the intake vent is too close to the chimney that is in the lobby. Don't get me wrong. I would stay here again but I would request a different size and location of my room. The staff were over the moon great and very enjoyable to work with.
.

Room Tip: I would try the buildings not attached to the lobby.
